Important Winter Program and Registration Information •

The safety of our program participants is paramount and all necessary precautions will be taken in our Jan - Feb programs.

Due to COVID-19, class sizes for programs listed in this brochure are limited, so register as soon as possible.

Click course numbers in this brochure to link to more information and to register at www.EncinitasParksandRec.com. No mail in or in person registrations will be accepted. Complete registration and program polices are located on page 12.

Non-residents add $10 to registration fee. A $2.50 processing fee will be added to each Youth & Teen, Adult and Sports program. Senior Citizen non-residents add $3. A $1 processing fee will be added to each Senior program.

Masks may be required for programs. Please refer to online class descriptions for more information.

SPECIAL EVENT Cyclovia Encinitas Virtual 2021 – We Keep Rollin’! Just like the inaugural year in 2020, it remains the City’s goal to put on an energetic, educational community celebration promoting healthy, active lifestyles, and self-powered transportation in a fun, but virtual way in 2021. The 2021 virtual event will kick off on Sunday, January 17 with the launch of City Website hosted interactive media, materials and resources along with limited live/in-person features throughout 2021. YOUTH FITNESS Beginner Karate (ages 5 - 17) International Karate League: Modified Okinawa Shorin-Ryu. Learn fundamentals of traditional karate for the purpose of developing character, respect, conditioning, and selfprotection. Soccer Shots - Classic (ages 5 - 6)

IT's GAME TIME! Take a break from screen time and come increase your physical activity with us! Each Tuesday and Thursday you will be immersed into a variety of physical games that range from obstacle courses, tag, dodge ball, relay races, soccer, kick ball, ultimate frisbee and much, much more! Have fun increasing your fitness level, spend time with friends and make some new ones.

Soccer Shots is an education based program that introduces your child to the wonderful world of sports through soccer. Our award-winning program and best-of-class coaches are aligned with the State of California standards for Early Childhood Education. Soccer Shots focuses on basic soccer fundamentals and character development. We highlight a positive character trait every session like respect, teamwork, and appreciation, while using creative and imaginative games to explain basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing and shooting.

YOUTH SPORTS SD Skatelife Beginner Skateboarding Clinic (ages 5 - 10) SD Skatelife expert instructor Andrew Barbosa is offering a beginner skateboarding class designed to teach the fundamentals of skateboarding in a safe and comfortable environment. Meeting IDs and Passwords for classes will be emailed to

participants by 5pm on the day before the class start date. Those classes with multiple sessions will use the same meeting code and password each week. Staff will be monitoring classes and taking attendance. Those not registered for class will be removed from the class by the administrator. •

When attending an online class, you will be placed in a waiting room until the instructor is ready to begin.

Mad Science - NASA (ages 5 - 10) NASA and Mad Science collaborate to take you on a voyage of discovery with unique hands-on activities, and amazing demonstrations that explore the sun and stars, space technology, rocket science and more! Our Mad Scientist will guide your child through 45-60 minute active virtual lessons (via ZOOM) and INCLUDES delivery of Mad Science Projects and additional materials that you will use throughout the class!

VIRTUAL YOUTH SPECIAL INTEREST

For some programs, materials are supplied by the participants and in some cases, materials are mailed to homes or need to be downloaded from a site or email. It is

Child and Babysitter Safety (ages 11 - 16) This virtual class includes topics such as babysitter's responsibilities, safety, infant care and an introduction to first aid. Participants will need a play doll for infant skills such as; bottle feeding and diapering and manikins for learning infant and child CPR. VIRTUAL ADULT ART Watercolor & More (ages 50 and up) Learn the fundamentals of watercolor as you explore and experiment with techniques that are fun and easy to do. All skill levels are welcome. Basic Watercolor Supplies Needed at Home: Brushes: #2, #12 round nylon and 1" foam brush and bristle fan brush.

Paper: Canson or Strathmore 9x12, 140lb. watercolor pad. Paint: Prang semi moist watercolors, 16 color box. Tube of white gouache. Water container, paper towels and sea sponge. Instructor: Denise McMurtrie

VIRTUAL ADULT FITNESS Gentle Yoga

(ages 50 and up)

This class consists of 4 major parts; breathing techniques to enhance the immune system, exercises (poses) to stretch and strengthen the body, guided imagery to help calm and focus the mind/emotions, and connection with others and instructor. Any level can participate. Yoga is for everybody, no matter the shape or health. Equipment: yoga mat, strap, 1-2 blocks. If you do not have equipment, adaptations can be made. Golden and Toned (ages 50 and up) Golden and toned is tailored for active older adults, who want to focus on muscle conditioning with light weight activity and some dancing. This class blends the sounds of a Latin music party while doing a total body workout. Low to moderate intensity strength training with 1-pound weights or no weights at all, blended with Latin dance. Health Barre Beginner (ages 50 and up) Have you always wanted to try Barre but not sure if you were ready for a full class? Well this is the class to start with. In this effective 35-minute body conditioning program you will improve your posture, muscle- tone and strength with basic Pilates and ballet movements. Work your entire body using light weights, bands, your own body weight as well as other methods of resistance to promote lean muscle. Please bring a mat, 1 or 2 lb. hand weights, water, and a towel. And tone up in this 35-minute class.

PROGRAM TRANSFER POLICY: Transfers may be done online up to five (5) calendar days before the start of the program and will not incur any fees if the transfer is to a program of equal or lesser value. Transfers to a program of greater value will include the program fee difference and an additional processing fee. In person transfers may be processed up to five (5) calendar days before the start of the program at the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Offices or the Encinitas Community and Senior Center prior to the first meeting date and will not incur any fees if the transfer is to a program of equal or lesser value. Transfers to a program of greater value will include the program fee difference and an additional processing fee. Transfer requests by phone or by leaving a message will not be considered. REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY: Activities are subject to change. A full refund will be given if the City cancels the activity. Refunds requested five (5) calendar days before the first program meeting date may be granted minus a $10 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for inclement weather. Prorated refunds may be given for a medical reason, based on the number of unattended days. Medical verification is required with a doctor signature and must be submitted no later than five (5) calendar days after the medical incident. Refunds/Cancellations may be done online up to five (5) calendar days before the start of the program and will incur a $10 cancellation fee. If the program fee is less than the $10 cancellation fee,no refund is available. Refund requests made less than five (5) calendar days before the start of the class must be submitted by email to encinitasparksandrec@ encinitasca.gov or delivered in writing to the Encinitas City Hall Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts service desk. WAITING LIST POLICY: Those on the waiting list that receive notification by phone or email that a spot has opened; have until 5:00pm the next City business day to secure registration. You may confirm your registration by calling (760) 633-2740 or (760) 943-2260 to talk to a live customer service representative or by visiting the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department office at the Encinitas Civic Center. Voicemails will not be accepted and do not confirm registration.
