Youth Scholarships

The City of Encinitas offers financial assistance for youth programs to Encinitas Residents who meet income requirements. Please contact the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department office at (760) 633-2740 for more information.

The City of Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is committed to providing inclusive programs and opportunities to increase individual potential for full and active participation in all activities and experiences. Park hours are dawn to dusk except for permitted events or unless stated otherwise. Beach parking and amenities hours are 5am - 10pm. Beach is closed 2am - 4am. No glass containers or polystyrene food containers allowed at City parks, beaches and trails. All parks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Special Event and Facility Use Permits are available for select locations. BIKE AND E-BIKE RESOURCES

If you ride, or are considering riding an e-bike in and around Encinitas, please take the time to learn what's allowed, what the applicable laws are and follow guidelines and recommendations for riding safely.

City Cycling Bike/E-Bike Safety & Skills Class (ages 10 and up*)

Under the direction of a trained bike instructor, you will learn the rules of the road and practice essential bike riding skills. Learn where to ride, best practices, emergency maneuvers, and legal rights and responsibilities. The three-hour class is broken up into three parts: lecture, skills drills, and a guided road ride to put your new skills into action! Class content applies to both regular and e-bikes. Make sure your bike is in good working order and ready to ride. Some cycling experience is required as this is not a "learn-to-ride" class.

Encinitas residents will receive a refund of registration amount after completion of the course ($2.70 ActiveNet system processing fee is nonrefundable). *If under 16, parent registration and participation is strongly encouraged. DANCE AND MOVEMENT

Magical Munchkins (ages 2 - 3)

This is a gentle introductory dance class that includes tap, ballet and dance games. It is energetic, expressive, and fun and will have your magical dancer learning the dance basics in an age-appropriate way. Classes start with tap and then transition into ballet each week. Parent (or caregivers) presence required as adults participate as needed. Please save snacks for before or after class for a successful and safe learning environment.

Pre-Star Shiners Tap & Ballet (ages 31/2 - 6)

Keep your Star Shiner moving in this tap and ballet combo class. This progressive class introduces curriculum goals through fun movement allowing your dancer to be challenged while expressing themselves. Classes start with tap and then transition into ballet each week. Dancers develop dance, listening, and coordination skills, including an emphasis on ballet terminology and technique.

Beat Breakers Hip Hop (ages 4 - 7)

This fun, high-energy kid’s dance class enables boys and girls to let loose while developing creativity, coordination, musicality, and listening skills. Dance Camp – Calling all Superheroes (ages 3 - 7)

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a dancing Superhero! This nonstop, hip-hop inspired summer camp is catered towards the unmatched energy of a hero or heroine. Superheroes will get to show off their hip-hop dancing powers in this summer dance camp that includes dance class, art projects, a Superhero skit, and games like scavenger hunts and obstacle courses. Join our camp for Superstar Sensations in a world of rhythm and glitter! Campers will embark on an adventure, exploring their inner popstars and shining bright. The Friday mini-show is for families, allowing our talented dancers to jam out and show off their popstar moves.

Talented Trolls Camp (ages 3 - 7)

Welcome to Talented Trolls Camp, where the magical world of Troll Village comes to life! Campers will dance and groove like their favorite Trolls characters, from Poppy's infectious positivity to Branch's cool beats. With energetic dance routines, creative Troll-inspired crafts, catchy sing-alongs, and whimsical skits, campers will embark on a week-long adventure filled with happiness and friendship. From making colorful accessories to acting out scenes from the Trolls movie, every day is a celebration of creativity and joy. The camp culminates in the Grand Troll Village Parade, where family and friends are invited to witness the campers' vibrant performances and crafts. Join us for a Troll-tastic week of laughter, music, and dance!

DAY CAMPS

Seaside Day Camp (ages 6 - 12)

Are you ready to have some good old-fashioned camp fun? Seaside Day Camp is ready to provide you with an opportunity to be with your friends, play games, be in nature, and have some fun. Also, each week we will plan at least 1 field trip off-site! Plan to spend your break with us away from screens and the same daily routines. Great childhood memories are waiting to be made at Seaside Day Camp! Each weekly package includes: Monday to Friday core program activities from 9am to 3pm with additional extended care options.

The fun continues at Seaside Extended Care. Additional A.M. and P.M. care is available for participants who are already registered for the week’s session of Seaside Day Camp.

Counselor in Training Program (ages 13 & 14)

Counselors in training learn leadership and work-readiness skills while having fun in a supervised day camp program. Interested youth must complete a program application, interview, and training before summer. YOUTH / TEEN

ARTS

Exploring Creativity (ages 5 - 10)

We will be exploring process based art projects that focus on the experience of creating rather than the final product. Students will be experimenting with many different art mediums such as painting, drawing, printmaking and more! Each project is designed to encourage creative thinking, problem solving and self-confidence. Students are given the freedom to explore and make a mess and are encouraged to wear clothes they don’t mind getting paint on.

BEACH CAMPS

Encinitas Beach Kids (ages 6 - 8)

Join in on the fun this summer in this non-competitive beach program, focused on learning and fun. Participants are taught beach safety and awareness, basic first aid, marine life awareness, water etiquette, teamwork and engage in plenty of play! Junior Lifeguards (ages 9 - 17)

Be a part of a 20-year plus Encinitas tradition. By combining education with recreation, participants learn about the ocean environment, gain professional lifesaving skills, and enjoy swimming, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, snorkeling and skills competitions. Our goal is to educate young people in ocean and beach safety while building self-confidence and appreciation for the ocean environment. Visit EncinitasJG.com for more information.

Kids Baking Camp (ages 6 - 11)

Bake up tasty treats and dishes and more while channeling your creativity in decorating your culinary masterpieces. Learn to follow directions, work as a team and create a variety of recipes. The process is just as fun as the end result! Each week of camp creates different recipes.

Child and Babysitter Safety (ages 10 - 17)

Child and Babysitter Safety class is a community education program for youth ages 10-17, that covers child safety and basic care for infants and children. Topics covered include: sitter safety, infant and child feeding, diapering procedures, recognizing an emergency, child and infant CPR, and basic first aid for children. Participants receive a digital download of the booklet and a Babysitter certificate from the American Health & Safety Institute and an Infant/Child CPR certificate of participation upon completion. Instructor, Sue Lockhart, has been training babysitters in San Diego for 30 years. Group classes can also be scheduled for Girl Scout groups with a special discounted rate. Parents, you aren’t the only ones that deserve a little R&R now and again. Introducing Spa Retreat/Spa-tastic! Camp, where your child will spend a whole week learning about and experiencing the various methods of relaxation and beautification through the luxury of experiencing it firsthand. Campers will work in groups as they practice things such as makeup application, hair styling and coloring (with one-day washable hair dye), skin and nail care, painting and other nail art, mani-pedis, and other various methods of relaxation and indulgence. Women’s Basketball League

The Women’s Basketball League is for players of all abilities 18 and up. Games are played on Monday nights. All teams will play approximately 10 regular season games and a championship tournament for the top four teams in the league. Game times are based on number of teams in the league. Individual sign up only prior to the player draft. Players are then placed on teams. Registration fee $300/team plus an additional fee for Officials at $73/game. Adult Indoor Volleyball

This adult coed volleyball program is for anyone 18 and up who wants to play without forming a team, having a team captain, or requiring a roster! In other words, it is a more structured open gym where you can come and play in a fun and social environment. There will be 2 courts available based loosely on level of play: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Players will be assigned to one of four teams each evening. Participants should have basic skills in passing, setting, and attacking in 6-person role-based play (setter, middle hitter/blocker, outside hitter, etc.). Team assignments will change weekly based on availability of players and their skills and positional strength's. Gameplay is intended to be friendly, but competitive and sportsmanlike. Let’s stitch together! This is sew-along-with-others time. Mindful Art Journaling (Ages 12+)

Art Journaling is an expressive, intuitive art making practice which requires no art skills whatsoever. The process is different for everyone. For some, it opens a creative doorway, for others, it might reveal where blocks or negative self-talk exist or it might simply be a creative image-making exploration of materials and techniques. Prompts are provided to assist you past any creative blocks. It’s a playful and liberating art-making process as well as relaxing and fun. It's a response method of personal story-telling. Multimedia Sculpture (Ages 15+)

Come and get creative! Students will learn sculpture techniques through a variety of media, including paper, plaster, clay, glaze, and acrylic paint. Each project will be explained and demonstrated and take between two to three weeks to complete. You will learn all about pinched forms, coiled forms, slab forms and wheel thrown forms. A $70 materials fee will be collected at registration which includes clay and glazes. Students are asked to bring their own ceramics tool kit for use in classroom which can be purchased inexpensively online or at any local craft store.

Nature Printmaking (Ages 12+)

Fun, easy printmaking without a press! Using acrylic paint, stencils, a Gelli plate, textures, and various plant material you’ll create a lovely accordion book to take home. You’ll learn the basics and a few techniques but mostly it’s a play date. especially for folks who do not think of themselves as creative. It’s storytelling through local plants.

Beginning Sculpture

Enjoy an introduction to sculptural concepts and processes. This studio course is focused on hands-on learning, critical thinking, and group dialogue. It will include hands on demos, group discussions and critiques. The course is built upon designing a basic armature using 16-gauge aluminum sculpture wire, learning the proportions of a human form and building an air-dried clay figure. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Understand the basic processes used to produce armature for sculpture, demonstrate the ability to conceive of and create sculpture using these processes, apply the principles of proportions and how they relate to the human form, design to understand and evaluate work, and recognize the (un)limitations of sculpture as a means of artistic expression. The emphasis is on providing high-quality care integrating psychomotor skills with the skills of critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Check-in time for lunch is 11:00-11:30am. Lunch is served at 11:40am. This is a congregate dining program, not a to-go service. The Oakcrest Cafe is supported by the City of Encinitas and general meal donations. No eligible person shall be denied a meal because of failure or inability to contribute. Please note, a registration form is required for all participants and must be updated annually.

Encinitas Senior Center Lunch Transportation

Transportation is available for eligible senior citizens (60+) to and from the Senior Center for lunches Monday through Friday. If you or someone you know is interested in rides to the lunches, call (760) 943-2258 to request an application. Suggested $2 donation per round-trip van ride.

All activities subject to time/date change. A $2.70 non-refundable registration processing fee is included in each course ($1 fee for *residents in Senior Center programs). Non-refundable credit card transactions will be charged an additional 3.4%.

*Resident is defined as an individual or organization residing or based within the boundaries of the City of Encinitas, with US Postal Service Code of 92024 or 92007. Use of a City PO Box Mailing address is not considered residency.

WALK IN:

Walk-in registration is accepted at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center and City Hall at the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department during business hours as noted on page 2 of this guide.

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY:

Activities are subject to change. A full refund will be given if the City cancels the activity.

• Refunds requested ten (10) days before the first program meeting date may be granted minus a $20 cancellation fee, $10 for senior programs.

• Refunds requested five (5) calendar days before the first program meeting date may be granted minus 25% of the registration fee or $20, whichever is greater.

• Refund requests should be emailed to prca@encinitasca.gov. No refunds will be issued for inclement weather. Prorated refunds may be given for a medical reason, based on the number of unattended days. Medical verification is required with a doctor signature and must be submitted no later than five (5) calendar days after the medical incident. Refund requests made less than five (5) calendar days before the start of the class must be submitted by an email to prca@encinitasca.gov. Refund requests made less than five (5) calendar days are date-stamped and reviewed by the division head. Submission of request does not guarantee approval.

WAITING LIST POLICY:

Those on the waiting list that receive notification by phone or email that a spot has opened; have until 5:00pm the next City business day to secure registration. You may confirm your registration by emailing prca@encinitasca. gov or calling: (760) 633-2740 or (760) 943-2250 to talk to a live customer service representative. Voicemails will not be accepted and do not confirm registration.

PROGRAM TRANSFER POLICY:

Transfers may be requested up to five (5) calendar days before the start of the program by emailing prca@encinitasca.gov and will incur a $10 transfer fee if the transfer is to a program of equal or lesser value. Transfers to a program of greater value will include the tranfer fee, program fee difference, and an additional processing fee. Transfer requests by phone or by leaving a message will not be considered. Transfer requests made less than five (5) calendar days before the start of the class must be submitted by email to prca@encinitasca.gov. Transfer requests made less than five (5) days are date stamped and reviewed by management.

Enjoy a Saturday evening of visual art as Encinitas civic art spaces and local art galleries swing open their doors at Art Night Encinitas from 5:30-8:30pm. The event celebrates the city’s diverse visual art scene at participating locations and is free to the public. Enjoy live music and refreshments at several locations.

Art Night Encinitas was conceived by the Commission for the Arts to bring focus to the civic art spaces and thriving visual art scene in Encinitas. The night benefits artists through the sale of their art and provides the public an opportunity to interact with artists and learn about the creative process.

Free Shuttle Service: Catch a ride on one of the shuttle buses that will transport the public between all three civic art spaces as well additional stops to access participating spaces. Its free! You can park at Encinitas City Hall, the Encinitas Community Center, and the Encinitas Library to easily access the shuttle.
