Hello Welcome to six days of cinematic delights as Encounters International Film Festival returns again in November with the re-launch of Brief Encounters and Animated Encounters. Once again Watershed will be packed with short films and filmmakers from around the globe in a showcase that exemplifies why short film should be seen in the cinema. The internationally renowned competition strand and globally reaching guest programmes will be accompanied by a whole host of panel discussions, debates, workshops and masterclasses. This year sees the return of a flourishing relationship with the Cube Cinema who bring you a selection of eclectic events. New friends, Picture This, launch their Ben Rivers exhibition and a celebration of 16mm. The University of Bristol takes us on a journey back in time exploring the timeless quality of archive film, plus an opportunity to experience movies on the move in a vintage bus. There’s something for all from the very young to the less so, the keen to the first timer, and the students to experienced professionals. Don’t forget to also pick up an Animated Encounters leaflet or visit the website for more information. Life’s too short to miss out on this. Liz Harkman Managing Director

Competition Screenings Encounters takes pride in the exemplary selection of the latest and greatest short films and animations from around the corner, and across the world. This year, we received an incredible 1600 submissions for our 5 competition strands, all with a chance of winning one of our 12 prestigious awards including the Grand Prix. From a selection of eight international programmes, with inspiring, audacious and entertaining imaginings from around the world, to the home of the delinquent in Late Lounge, a series of anarchic and frightening short films not for the squeamish.
