ENERActive Eye On The ENERGY BLUEPRINT TO THE FUTURE An Energy Master Plan (EMP) is an organization’s blueprint to the future, it’s an easy-tofollow, defined and marked pathway to success...
Do you have an “Energy Master Plan” in place?
Smart facility plant managers today are taking the “decision making process” to a new level with Energy Master Planning. This is a comprehensive holistic approach to integrate smart energy conservation and sustainability initiatives into the overall business plan of the organization. Energy Master Planning provides critical detailed information far in advance on what energy related problems exist, and how performance and improvements will impact their overall operating cost today, tomorrow and into the future. It is a well-known assumption throughout the energy industry that most large facilities that fail did not have a strategy in place incorporating an Energy Master Plan.
Why should I have an Energy Master Plan?
An EMP provides a more focused way to better determine growth plans and prioritize projects of an organization so they are in step with the capital plans. The EMP provides the guidelines for reducing energy use and cutting carbon emissions while maintaining sound economic rationales for conservation-related improvements. An EMP can achieve many goals that will yield economic, environmental, and social benefits.
Will everyone support an Energy Master Plan?
Yes and you will be surprised at the amount of support you will receive throughout your organization. Similar to a company’s safety plan, your EMP too will become part of an everyday ongoing practice to keep your energy cost in check. Think of an Energy Master Plan as a way for management to set the course, define the path, and measure the results. Once implemented it becomes the mind-set of the entire organization.
What should be included in an Energy Master Plan?
What is an Energy Master Plan? The Energy Master Plan spans the entire life cycle of a facility. It makes energy consumption more efficient and fully integrates energy management functions into the overall operations of the buildings. An Energy Master Plan puts in place a strategy for making energy conservation and sustainability decisions so opportunities automatically fall in place with the long-term business goals of the company.
An Energy Master Plan should include but not be limited to the following: • Commissioning LEED & Retro-Commissioning • EPA Energy Star Score
To learn how to develop an Energy Master Plan or to schedule an appointment, contact Jim Nagle directly on 856-237-7505 or by email at Jnagle@eneractivesolutions.com
• Active Energy Procurement • Energy Efficient Technology Screening • Optimization Building Management Systems • Energy Monitoring / Analytics • Water & Wastewater Targets • Recycling Programs
• Maintenance targets • Communications • Occupant Energy Awareness Training • Performance Analysis & Investment Plan • Measurement & Verification • Emission & Carbon Footprint Reductions
• Sustainable Practices & Pathways • Incentives & Rebates • Renewable Technologies • Identification of Capital Improvements • Scheduling & Phasing • Supporting Documentation • Budget and Resource
An Energy Master Plan can be your optimum energy solution as it moves beyond the confines of traditional engineering and incorporates your concerns into a smart business strategy where the energy budget is viewed as an opportunity for profit. Once an Energy Master Plan is implemented it will transcend the company culture and establish the rules of thinking for many years going forward.

New Jersey Resources (NJR)
Alexander Wind Farm Project ENERACTIVE SOLUTIONS was contracted by New Jersey Resources Clean Energy Ventures (NJRCEV) to provide owner’s representative and construction management services for the installation of their 48.3 MW, 21 Wind Turbine Project located in Rush County, Kansas. Approximately 120 miles northwest of Wichita, the Alexander Wind Farm Project is NJRCEV’s largest onshore wind project to date. The total capacity of the wind farm delivers enough clean energy to power over 17,000 homes annually. The Eneractive Team provided NJRCEV with expertise in technical oversight of the project to assist their efforts in ensuring integrity during the implementation and turnover phases of the project.
Specifically, Eneractive provided NJRCEV with: • Project Oversight/Construction Management • Risk Mitigation • Cost Control Oversight • Site Observation and Milestone Reports • Assistance with Project Startup, Witness Testing, Commissioning and Turnover Services The electrical energy produced by the Alexander Wind Farm Project will be sold through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to both the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (KCBPU) and Yahoo!, Inc. KCPU will use this energy to help serve their 65,000 electric and 59,000 water customers in Wyandotte County, Kansas, while Yahoo will use the wind power to offset its energy usage in the Great Plains region.

Energy Procurement WHAT’S UP & DOWN
in Natural Gas Storage For week ending in January 15, 2016 , the EIA released their Natural Gas Storage report today, January 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. The February contract closed yesterday at $2.118 and traded early this morning, up about 2.5% at $2.173. With the announced withdrawal of 178 Bcf coming in below expectations, we saw the contract drop immediately back down to yesterday’s close and is currently sitting at $2.111. what led us to the largest withdrawal of the storage season. This is the first withdrawal that has been above the five year average in over a month, but some of the nation’s top Natural Gas experts state, we will need to see a pretty significant cold weather event to really put some pressure on shorts and get a rally in Nat Gas. For those on the gas side, the only question is whether the February contract will settle above $2. To all of you reading this in the Northeast, please stay safe during this winter storm and get ready for somes now. According to EIA estimates, working gas in storage was 3,297 Bcf as of Friday, January 15, 2016. This represents a net decline of 178 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 629 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 473 Bcf above the five-year average of 2,824 Bcf. At 3,297 Bcf, total working gas is above the five-year historical range.

WEEKLY NATURAL GAS & ELECTRICITY The EIA reported a net withdrawal of 117 Bcf last week, which includes a 4 Bcf reclassification Natural Gas from base gas to working gas in the South, implying real demand of -113 Bcf. The number was looked upon as a bullish report and contributed to a volatile January week in both gas and power markets.
The last report exceeded the consensus estimate (-97 Bcf) and the prior week’s data (-58 Bcf), but trails both the prior year’s number (-116 Bcf) and the 5-year average (-129 Bcf). Working gas inventories for the storage week ending last Week of December totaled 3,643 Bcf. This is 17% higher than last year, and 15% higher than the 5-year average for this week.
Electricity
Power prices were sharply lower in the Northeast, and moderately lower for most PJM load zones. The 12-month Around The Clock curve in NEMASS gave up $2.80/MWh while the 24-month fell by about $2.25. Calendar 2016 dropped roughly $1.60. The 12-month Around The Clock curve at NY’s Zone J load zone fell by about $1.60; the 24-month also declined by about $1.35; and the calendar 2016 strip was around $1.10 lower.
