Mayor’s Report
Thank you to Talisman Energy for the purchase of a new score clock for the arena. Those who spend a lot to time there will be glad to be able to read the correct score next winter.
I
am happy to welcome John Locher as the new Chief Administrative Officer. I feel confident that John will be a huge asset to the District, as he brings with him a wealth of local municipal government experience. John has been working as the interim CAO since February and has a good knowledge of the District and of our needs.
Hopefully anyone who sustained damage to their property during the rains of early July has contacted the District for information on flood assistance. Until next month enjoy the waning days of summer before the hectic fall and winter begins.
Work on the water treatment plant is progressing; the plant will be temporarily located on Dudley Drive. On-site work should start within the next month.
District News
I would like to thank everyone who responded and wrote letters to Northern Health. Whether or not they were effective is still to be determined. Council is still focusing on this issue and talks are going on with companies in the area to support Hudson’s Hope. We will be meeting with these companies and local First Nations, at a meeting in early September. Hopefully we can break the barrier with Northern Health at this time. August 2011

he Animal Control Officer would like to remind you that even though you bought the tag it must be on the dog to identify it, if it’s picked up. His goal is to identify the dog and reunite it with its’ owner as quickly as possible. 1

Overview
The Site C Clean Energy Project (Site C) is now in Stage 3, the environmental and regulatory review phase, which will include an independent environmental assessment. Stage 3 work includes conducting environmental and engineering field studies on and around the Peace River between the Williston Reservoir and the Alberta border. The following studies will be taking place in July and August 2011. Event Review: Canada Day 144 years of patriotism thrives in Hudson’s Hope. Over 275 folks dropped by to enjoy all the activities despite the blustery day, threatening rain and road washouts. Thanks to Ms. Suzy Bach for leading the crowd in O’ Canada and to our RCMP Corporal Darren Woroshelo for proudly supporting the celebrations. Events continued with Mayor Anderson’s opening address, award presentations and ceremonial cake cutting. Crowds were enthralled with the quick steps of Shannon Mason’s dancers and the intense choreography of Keahna and Sierra Summer from The Move Center and Celina Fequet from Watt’s School of Irish Dance. A big thank you to Jason Naisby for coming to the rescue with the sound system so all could enjoy the real country roots music of Peter Haagsman, Colleen Gillie and Ed Sykes. Thanks to the Lion’s Club members, Frank Burkitt, Terry Peressini, Gord Anderson, Ed Forrester, Kelly Newsholme and new recruit, James Cryderman and Paul and Johanna Dupuis for flipping burgers for the hungry crowd. A big thank you goes out to Hudson’s Hope Fire Department for lending the BBQs once again. Liza Rhymer, Shellsea Nichols, and Autumn MacDonald volunteered to take on the very busy face painting station. The children were busy with creative games and activities hosted by Northern Rockies Karate-Do. Thanks to North Peace Savings and Credit Union for freely lending the popcorn machine and supplies. Thanks again to the Karate Club for helping with free popcorn, prizes and trivia contests. You are all amazing. The Best Dressed Canadian adult was awarded to Heidi Naisby. Congratulations to Stella Jarnigan for winning the children’s best dressed award. Thanks to our judges Councillor Gwen Johansson. Second year running Patti Backlund scoops the prize of the “much debated” Canadian trivia contest. Congratulations to the winners of the many free prize draws. Prizes can be picked up at the District of Hudson’s Hope during regular hours. A big thanks to the DOHH public works for battling the blustery day to secure the tent, engineer the Canadian flag, pack picnic tables and stage; thanks to Meghan and the staff at the pool for supervision of free swim, and the staff at the office for all the behind the scenes work. Thanks to the Curling Club for their use of tables and HH School for the use of stairs. Thanks to Christopher Fequet, Bill Lindsay, Britt Silk, Bob Fequet, Leah Nichols and Ryan Koyanagi for stepping in to volunteer wherever needed. Small towns are the heartland of Canada. The heart of Hudson’s Hope beats strong! Eh! Canada Day celebrations were a District of Hudson’s Hope and Department of Canadian Heritage Sponsored event. August 2011

The Bulletin
RCMP On June 29 police received a report of a swamped boat tied up to the north shore of Williston Lake just west of the Dunlevy Camping area. Inquiries were made and the owner, a Fort St John resident, was located safe in Fort St John. On July 1 police received a 911 call from a female saying she was injured. Police attended and located the female at the Fas Gas. The Fort St John female had attended the Hudson's Hope Grad party and had been abandoned in town by friends. The female stated she was assaulted by another unknown female at the Grad party the previous evening although she had no visible injuries. Police ensured that the female made it home safely. On July 2 police conducted counter attack road checks and patrols for impaired drivers during the Jam at the Dam Music Festival. Around 10:40 pm a vehicle was traveling south bound from Hudson's Hope well above the speed limit. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, an 56 year old Alberta male, showed signs of impairment and failed a road side screening device. He later provided breath samples over twice the legal limit. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 10 in Fort St John. On July 2 police responded to a report of an intoxicated male assaulting another male. The 28 year old Hudson's Hope male was located nearby and arrested for assault, mischief, and breach of release conditions stemming from a previous incident. The male was held in custody and appeared in Fort St John court on July 4 where he plead guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 1 year probation. On July 2 & 3 police conducted checks at the Jam at the Dam Music Festival. RCMP would like to thank organizers and security for doing an outstanding job. Despite the issues of some patrons leaving and driving while impaired there were no incidents on sight. Well done. On July 7th police were advised of locks being shot off of a gate with the use of a high powered rifle or large caliber hand gun in Beryl Prairie. Beer cans were left at the scene. Such mischiefs inhibit the lawful enjoyment and/or privacy of personal property. The RCMP request that all persons be on the lookout for mischiefs and report them to the detachment if seen or noticed. On July 13th there was a report of a loader working on Dudley Drive without flaggers and there was concern of a child getting hurt. After speaking with the foreman who was on site, there were two flaggers one at the east end and west end of where the loader was working and they were wearing safety vests. For families with young children please be cautious in and around a construction site. The Bulletin

On July 16th police responded to a report of a Motor Vehicle accident on Beryl Prairie Road which involved a single vehicle. The vehicle was not found until the daytime on the 17th due to weather and poor road conditions at the time of searching. Information was obtained after the fact that the driver at the time was reportedly impaired and his employment has since been terminated due to this action. On July 23rd 2011 there was a report of an assault on Beattie Drive with two intoxicated females. There was no injury from the assault. No arrest was made as the assault turned out to be a consensual pushing and shoving match over a previous issue and neither party wishes charges to be laid. Police would like to remind everyone that con-men are always at work utilizing the telephone and the computer in an attempt to take advantage of people. If you receive a call or e-mail from anyone requesting your credit card number, bank account number, or any other personal information do not provide it to them. If the deal sounds too good to be true... it probably is. The latest story being used by telephone fraud artists is to call you at home and tell you that your computer is putting out too much interference on the internet. Do not provide them with any information or do anything on your computer that they ask you to do. If a phone number is displayed on your call display write it down or ask them for a name and phone number that you can call them back at. Please report any incidents that you fee are suspicious to Phone Busters at 1-888-495-8501.
