Woodside Energy estimates an investment of 6 to 8 billion dollars, at a cost of 15 dollars per barrel.
Sylvain Patiteau confirmed that the Zama project is moving forward after a long unification process involving four companies. PEMEX, Wintershall Dea, Talos Energy and Harbour Energy.
He said that Zama is a key prospect in the country’s productive platform, with a production of 180 thousand barrels per day, around 10% of the national platform.
“With certainty I can say that Zama is not a dream, it is a reality. As its own meaning in Mayan says: Zama, it’s a dawn,” he stressed.
Zama is one of the world’s largest shallow water discoveries in the last 20 years. It was the first discovery made by a private consortium in Mexico in 2017. With estimated gross recoverable resources of 600 to 800 million barrels of oil equivalent, Zama is expected to contribute significantly to Mexico’s energy supply over the next 25 years. Read Taylor commented that they have the infrastructure in place to make Lakach the first deepwater natural gas development in Mexico. “We will continue to invest in the development of the field with the drilling of wells and installation of subsea infrastructure,” he said.
The non-associated gas field is located in deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, about 90 kilometers from the port of Veracruz.
This project had been suspended for six years, with an initial investment by PEMEX of US$1.4 billion. New Fortress Energy is committed to complement this investment with an additional 1.5 billion dollars. In this operation, PEMEX maintains ownership of the field and at the end of the contract will own the total infrastructure
