rett and Lydia are dedicated partners in life and in real estate. They share six children; the highest moral and ethical standards; and a passion for delivering a real estate experience that exceeds client expectations. Together, the “Real Estate Warriors” serve a broad spectrum of their community, from luxury clients to first-time homebuyers, to military families - each receiving the same attention to detail and tireless perseverance. Brett served as a United States Marine for nearly 24 years. He was deployed throughout the world in service to our country, to destinations as far away as Africa and the Middle East. “As I was approaching military retirement,” Brett says, “I began to consider the next adventure in my life. Real estate was always a passion and helping others make sound real estate decisions came naturally to me.” Lydia is a first generation Mexican-American who
began her real estate career as a transaction coordinator. After seven years mastering the administrative side of the industry, she obtained her license and began selling real estate full-time. “As a transaction coordinator, I fell in love with real estate and the process of meeting new people,” Lydia says. “Working with Brett makes it even more exciting. With him, there is never a dull moment.” Their mutual respect is felt by all who work with them. “Brett is very aggressive in negotiations and in building relationships,” Lydia continues. “He’s very passionate about his job, family and spirituality, and he is the same man at work that he is at home. I really admire that he will take on a transaction and won’t rest until our client is completely satisfied. He will go to battle to make sure his client’s best interests are served. He’s also highly disciplined. I look up to him, not just at work, but because he also brings us together in family and in church.”

Lydia’s best qualities are the perfect complement to Brett’s strengths. “Being aggressive is not always the best approach to real estate, or even in life. When raising kids or helping clients, there also has to be that soft side, that listening side and comforting side. That’s what Lydia provides. She helps maintain balance and perspective so that we’re able to adjust to what our clients need as different circumstances come up. Nothing gets her overly excited or worried. Our ability to reach overseas is immediate.” There is a big difference between putting listings on the internet and having thousands of expertly trained people on virtually every continent who are prepared to speak to potential buyers about a property as if it were their own listing. Overseas buyers can build relationships with advisors in their local area who will help them identify and tour faraway properties using leading-edge photography and videography. An overseas advisor can then call Brett and Lydia to discuss the intricacies of a property and obtain the additional information a client needs to make a buying decision – in some cases without ever having visited the property in person. “It works very well,” Brett says. “It’s part of transferring that same personal, smalltown service we give to our neighbors here in Newport Beach and Corona del Mar to clients anywhere in the world.”

The company hosts both national and international conferences annually, where advisors can meet one another and build quality relationships that help them confer the professional and distinctive service for which Engel & Völkers is celebrated. Brett and Lydia’s international outlook and life experience render them well-equipped for serving the wants and expectations of clients from abroad. Brett acquired familiarity with many foreign cultures and customs during his time serving America’s interests overseas. Lydia is bilingual in Spanish and English, with a special appreciation for her Latin heritage, and for attaining the American Dream. Serving Those who Serve The combination of experiences and skills that make this real estate duo so effective when serving the interests of luxury buyers and sellers, also cause them to excel in serving our men and women in uniform. They have a firsthand understanding of the unique needs of military families, combined with the compassion and dedication to see
a transaction through, no matter the challenges. They assist approximately 30 military families each year with the purchase or sale of homes throughout Southern California. While in the Marines, Brett developed relationships with many active duty and retired service members in the area. He explains, “Marines are routinely called on to move or deploy several times throughout their career. I try to encourage those I meet to take advantage of the opportunity to buy a home. It’s a privilege to help these selfless Americans and this is our way of giving back and helping them add stability to their lives. Lydia and I contribute our time and expertise to helping them find and negotiate the perfect home. And when the military requires these patriots to move on, we assist in the sale of the home or identify a qualified tenant - allowing the home to remain in their investment portfolio. In either case, our goal is to provide a huge financial benefit to our client,” Brett explains. “It’s important that our veterans take advantage of the loan programs they have earned. In many cases they are simply unaware of the fantastic opportunities that are available.”

Retired Marine David Mendez expressed his gratitude for the exceptional care he and his family received from Brett and Lydia. “Brett and Lydia worked with us closely for months – helping us find the perfect vacation home we had always dreamed of. real estate to their children. Lydia is a self-proclaimed Realtor®-turned-taxi-driver who regularly transports kids to soccer and tennis practice. She also helps out at their schools as often as she can. Brett loves to surf and run on the beach, activities he and the boys regularly share.
