India’s National highway grid: The National Highway Authority of India has proposed a ‘National Highway Grid’ that is set to have 27 vertical and horizontal highway corridors all over the country. The corridors, which will connect with each other through a crisscross network, will be spaced at a distance of 250 kilometers. The grid is supposed to connect 26 state capitals and more than 45 cities. There are whispers of redesignating existing highways for easier identification. All East to West highways may be given even numbers, north to south ones may be given odd numbers soon. This move is likely to lend a uniform purposeful appearance to India’s sprawled road network.
Turkmenistan Finances Pipeline Construction: A credit sum of $45 million has been assigned for financing the stage construction of PakistanTurkmenistan-Afghanistan-India natural gas pipeline. The project called TAPI is expected to cost an estimated $10 billion which is a third of Turkmenistan’s total budget. Till now there has been a shortage of funds for TAPI which has been attributed to the Taliban Movement in Afghanistan.
