Don’t slip up on safety, clean up with Kärcher! According to the world’s biggest professional health and safety organisation, IOSH, slips and trips are the most common causes of work accidents, accounting for over 40% of major injuries at work. More than 90% of slips occur when floors are wet or contaminated with food product. Kärcher floor cleaning machines are packed full of innovations to ensure maximum safety goes hand in hand with optimum cleaning results. Used in conjunction with the appropriate detergents, a diverse range of disc or roller brush types leaves all floor surfaces spotlessly clean and free from grease, whilst powerful vacuum motors and efficient squeegees ensure floors are left bone-dry in a single pass. What’s more, with battery versions available on many models, the potential trip hazard of trailing cables is eliminated.

To give you a helping hand maintaining a clean, safe working environment, Kärcher is pleased to offer up to £200 cashback on compact scrubber driers purchased between 1st September and 31st December 2014.

Knock-Out Drum Corrosion Solution for Leading Knock-out drums or pots (KOD) are widely used in the Oil & Gas industry for separating components of a vapour-liquid mixture and are highly susceptible to corrosion due to the aggressive chemicals and high operational temperatures. Their service environment is corrosive due not only to the non-hydrocarbon constituents naturally present in crude oil such as sulfur, nitrogen, water and inorganic salts, but also to the great number of chemical substances commonly added

CAD solutions for the UK automotive industry Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their suppliers are under unrelenting pressure to design innovative and alluring vehicles—and bring and manufacture a single automotive product that exudes quality, is pleasing to the eye, and appeals to buyers, hundreds of conceptual design details must be vetted. Automotive designers must then shepherd the winning concept through design review, evaluate it for manufacturability, and plan for production— all to ensure a beautiful, quality vehicle. Manufacturers, meanwhile, are in an endless race to introduce the newest design trends to market as quickly as possible, while avoiding costly design changes. This creates both time and quality pressures in the automotive product development cycle. What if automotive design software had the tools needed to visualise a vehicle from conceptual design through to engineering and production? High-end photorealistic visualisations and virtual prototyping enable better design decisions up front and help speed the best concepts through the product development process.

In the automotive design and development process, communication gaps often arise between product development and management, and between design and engineering teams. Even in the earliest stages, designers must communicate and present design intentions to management for approval. But management needs visual aids to understand what the actual vehicle will look like, and to help inform their decision making. An innovative and powerful software solution for highend 3D visualisation, Autodesk® VRED™ solutions interactive design exploration and presentation as well as virtual prototyping. VRED enables the automotive industry to create high-quality visualizations for use from conceptual design to design review to engineering. You can make better decisions based on realistic parameters and share one virtual prototype model throughout the visualisation and analysis tools, Autodesk helps you take advantage of today’s global trends and prepare for tomorrow’s demands.

Joining over 320 exhibitors, visitors arrived to discover the latest product launches, technological developments as well as insights from industry leaders such as Coca-Cola Enterprises, M&S, Tesco as well as the newly appointed Groceries Code Adjudicator. Run over three days (30th September – 2nd October) the show once the UK’s manufacturing industries, with exhibitors quick to praise the business and networking opportunities available at this year’s exhibition. Speaking about this year’s exhibition, Alison Davies, Commercial Manager for PFM Packaging Machinery, said: “We’ve been extremely busy at this year’s show and it has been a great opportunity to secure new business. The PPMA Show is a great place to showcase PFM’s new innovations and to catch up with existing customers. For us, it has been exhibiting at next year’s show.”

Showcasing a hotbed of innovation With a hotbed of innovation on display, visitors to the PPMA show were able to view the latest machinery from the world’s leading packaging and processing machinery manufacturers. For example, Festo, leading suppliers of pneumatic and electronic automation technology, revealed its latest concepts inspired by nature, including the new WaveHandler. The WaveHandler is a modular system that moves a surface in such a way that objects are transported and sorted purposefully. The conveyor consists of numerous bellows modules that deform the surface creating a wave motion that transports the object with in a targeted manner. The WaveHandling system behaves in a similar way: while each individual bellow

advances and retracts in the same spot, a wave moves over the surface of the conveyor. A number of exhibitors also launched their latest product lines at the show, including Holmach’s new whip universal processing system, Qbo. The OAL Group’s Steam Infusion technology was also on show highlighting the revolutionary heating and mixing process that infuses steam into liquid food products in a vacuum. It was also awarded the accolade of most innovative processing machinery award at the PPMA Group Industry Awards.

The 2014 One to Watch The PPMA Show also boasted a seminar programme with insights from such industry leaders including Coca-Cola Enterprises, Groceries Code Adjudicator Christine Tacon, M&S, Tesco and Wykes Farm. Groceries Code Adjudicator, led a combative talk on the UK’s leading supermarkets and took the opportunity to encourage manufacturers to share examples of supermarkets abusing their code of practice. Speaking at the show, Christine commented: “I don’t want to interfere in your commercial relationships with retailers to tell me so that I can take action. Give me the tools and I can do the job.” Peter Hopper, Production Manager for Wyke Farms added: ““It’s very important for us to be present at the PPMA Show as we’re a family company who are keen

NSSE look at the way UPS efficiencies have improved in recent years, and shed a light on their approach to the industry Substantially reducing energy costs is not uncommon for NSSE - one recent project saw their clients’ typical quarterly bill almost halved from £15,700 to £8,600. NSSE were able to achieve this by replacing an existing solution which will pay for itself inside of 2 years through energy costs savings. As an independent provider operating solely in the power protection industry, NSSE are well placed to provide impartial professional advice and technically advanced solutions based upon many years of experience and working alongside some of today’s biggest names in UPS manufacture. “A question we are commonly asked, is how we are able to reduce our client’s energy costs on the scale of which we do” commented Jason Smith, Managing Director of NSSE Ltd. “We analyse our client’s current energy expenditure resulting from their existing set-up and through a number of processes including close scrutiny of current loading

T12-MSM: robust circuit breaker with design appeal SCHURTER is merging its expertise in the area of robust metal switches with breaker on the market that is extremely attractive from a visual standpoint. With its extraordinary actuating appeal, the T12-MSM need not be used as just another switch to be hidden on the rear of the equipment; rather it can be stylishly displayed on the front. SCHURTER combines its circuit breakers with thermal operation (T12) and thermal-magnetic operation (TM12) with its MSM series metal switches. The T12-MSM, creates a market innovation that marries overcurrent protection with an attractive pushbutton design. The MSM switches are characterized by their visual appeal and operating characteristics. Both the housing and the actuator are fabricated from high-quality stainless steel, and there are a variety of design options including size, color, lighting and inscription. The T12 and TM12 are reliable circuit breakers with positive trip-free operation. The contacts open even if the reset button is manually held in the closed position. They reliably protect equipment with rated currents from 50 mA to 16 A. The optional magnetic release, protects against increased risk of short circuits. The combination of the T12 circuit breaker and the MSM switch now unites all these features in a product that is also extremely robust. With a vandal-proof design, IP 64 tightness protection and IK 07 impact resistance, the T12-MSM is also suited for outdoor applications and use in harsh environments. Additionally, the look and feel is novel for a circuit breaker and stands out among other circuit breakers as a true designer piece, suitable for mounting on the front side of the equipment, where an appealing design is paramount. The T12-MSM for applications where moderate overcurrents can occur. Among its wide range of possible uses are applications requiring electromechanical shielding, outdoor applications, and especially applications with electric motors.
