The Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company. Situated in Harpley, Norfolk is the small family run business, The Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company. Nestled within the stunning country landscape, and enveloped by the exhilarating country air. Their handmade beds are crafted with care – and come guaranteed for a lifetime! Each year Kevin McCloud personally chooses a hand full of products, that resemble the best eco-innovations in their market and last October, The Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Co were hand picked to exhibit their ‘scaffolding’ inspired bedstead at the Grand Designs Live Show in Birmingham. Made from recycled iron tube and scaffolding junctions, the William hit it off well with the crowds in Birmingham and with Kevin McCloud himself. “When I met Kevin he was very interested in what we had done and by the fact that we are a small family company,” said Amanda Oldfield. It was a great achievement for this small Norfolk family company. “To get this recognition from a spokesman such as Kevin McCloud, felt like such a great achievement” Harry tells us. So for this family run company to hear their ‘scaffolding’ inspired eco-friendly bedstead, had been invited back for the Grand Designs Live show at Excel in May; could only be described as icing on the cake. “We loved the reaction our William bedstead received at the Birmingham show, but following feedback we wanted to slightly change the design; and push the boundaries on what we could achieve” Harry Oldfield tells us. “We came up with the idea of a four poster; one that would boast a more contemporary yet traditional style.” Speaking with the family behind the Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company, it is great to hear how excited they are about this fabulous and stimulating opportunity. But not only will you be able to see the Eleanor design, at this years show at the London Excel in May. You will also be able to meet the family behind this Norfolk Company on stand L27, where they shall also be exhibiting their two new designs for 2014, Charlotte and Elizabeth.

Make your bed a design statement One of the things you notice about many of the modern upmarket spa and boutique hotels is the minimalistic approach to design. Not for these contemporary venues is the design clutter and colour density associated with the more traditional, dare we say, stuffy hotels. It’s not just hotels doing this because interior designers are also moving towards plain simple decors allowing items like pictures and ornaments to add just enough tone and colour to any room. You may well have noticed how beds are also being used to add that splash of colour and design? At King of Cotton we have been quietly adding to our ranges with bed coverings that allow the designer to use the bed as a major factor in colouring and colour coordination. For instance the Diamond Weave range of runners, throws and cushion covers shown, in their 6 statement colours, can bring any room to life and add a focal dimension to any understated bedroom. The Santorini bedding collection in 300 thread count pure Egyptian cotton bedding has a duvet cover featuring ‘polka dot’ design which can be matched or contrasted with the plain grey coloured coordinated sheets. The retro-buttoned pillowcases are available in plain grey and in the polka-dot design with a contrasting grey edge. The key is that the plainly decorated bedroom can accommodate both traditional and contemporary styled bedding and look smart, modern and desirable as shown by the more ostentatious Excelsior bedspread and cushion covers. All the designs mentioned in this article are shown on the page but there is a whole website full of ideas at kingofcotton.co.uk

A very interesting new Irish company has come to the market with a completely new range of composite door, in fact this product is so different from any other composite door on the market the company doesn’t even like to refer to it has a composite door. The MONOCOQUE Structure of this door is what sets it apart from all other composite doors. This MONOCOQUE structure gives strength to the door which has to been seen to be believed. We hear and read about composites so much today particularly where low weight and high strength are concerned. For instance in the cockpit of Formula1 of race cars the use of composites have reduced the fatality rate dramatically. Also the use of composites in the aeronautical industries where high strength and low weight are key requirements. But as the saying goes a bird never flew on one wing and strength alone would not be an adequate reason for buying this door, so when the company set about to design this door the key aims of the design team were to create a product which was functional and at the same time ascetically appealing.

t12t

Phenomenal Response: The Palladio range of doors has only been in the UK a short time but for those people who have bought the product the response has been incredible and because of the reaction window companies have really embraced the product for the simple reason when they get a sale with this door it also helps them get the sale of the windows and after all when your neighbour comes to visit you it’s through the door they will walk not through the window and this is what they will remember. Response from the Public: Is has been our experience that there are lots and lots of companies selling doors in the UK but the vast majority of them come from the same source and therefore are from the same design and same make up as oppose to the Palladio where it is unique to its design and ascetics. Advantages: One of the huge advantages of buying from Palladio is that the doors are finished in a renolite foil which is extremely weather resistant and also matches the frame and sidelights which are too made from renolite foil, and further to this the side light glass is produced in house and matches the door design. If you want to stand out from the crowd, to be unique, to be different choose Palladio. www.profiledevelopments.com

NATURAL INTERIORS WITH OSMO Wooden flooring remains both a stylish and practical solution for modern interiors, but requires a protective finish. Osmo UK, the eco-friendly wood experts, provide a sustainable finish specifically formulated to combine perfect protection and creative design. One of the most attractive qualities of choosing wood for interior application is its unique and rustic appearance, making it essential to specify a finish that will not detract from this. Osmo’s Polyx-Oil wood finish is designed to accentuate the natural beauty of timber, retaining its organic appearance, while adding comprehensive protection from within. “There is an on-going trend for the use of natural materials in interior design, which makes it essential that the correct maintenance and protection procedures are followed to ensure longevity,” explains Steve Grimwood, Osmo UK’s Managing Director. “As wood is a versatile, warm, refined material, it is important to ensure that any finish specified is of the highest quality and full of natural ingredients. Our Polyx-Oil product is the ideal wood accompaniment, enhancing the material’s living characteristics without inhibiting any of its natural properties.” With fashions and tastes continually changing, Osmo has also developed Polyx-Oil Tints which adds colour to the original Polyx-Oil line-up. With such a finish, it is possible to embrace almost any style, allowing you to adapt the wood to match the varying and changing requirements. This further adds to the eco-friendly, natural approach, as it allows you to transform pre-existing timber fixtures to reflect an alternative design trend. It also complements the wood’s ability to last a lifetime by providing a solution to refurbish and maintain wood for many years to come. While some installations require an as-natural appearance as possible, Polyx-Oil Tints Raw enhances the wood’s appearance, while adding to its durability. Polyx-Oil is full of natural ingredients that replenish any loss from the wood, allowing it to remain elastic and promoting breathability. Ensuring the wood’s appearance shines through, Polyx-Oil adds resilience against stains, dirt and moisture. By seeping

into the woods surface, the finish will not crack, peel or blister. For more information on Osmo’s range of eco-friendly wood finishing solutions, please visit

For over 6 years Leeds based inn-fresco have been helping homeowners and businesses make the most of their gardens and outside areas supplying a wide range of premium sun shades and retractable roof systems. We have a wide range of products to meet differing budget and requirements and work closely with architects and specifiers to help them create useable outdoor space for their clients. However, new for 2014, we have launched our Med retractable roof system with sliding glass panels which is creating lots of excitement with both our domestic and commercial customers as it offers so much more flexibility than a conservatory and adds something new in the marketplace. “ The Med retractable roof system with sliding panels is like a glass room providing all the functionality, comfort and warmth of an outside room - but there’s more.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN

Great Kneighton is attracting much attention for the innovative design of the homes being built, and the site’s emphasis on sustainability – both characteristics of developer Countryside Properties, a longstanding VELFAC client, and renowned for its commitment to the building of high quality, energy efficient properties designed to improve quality of life. At Great Kneighton, for example, many of the homes deliberately exploit the VELFAC slim frame design to maximise natural light while also enjoying the exceptional levels of insulation – both thermal and acoustic – that the VELFAC frame design can provide. With its uniform sightlines, VELFAC glazing also delivers the seamless, stylish and contemporary finish demanded by the Great Kneighton vision, while the versatility of the system allows the same window style to feature across a wide range of different house and apartment designs.

t20t

HOME TO OVER 5,800 PEOPLE Situated on the south-east edge of Cambridge, Great Kneighton is one of Europe’s largest new mixed use developments; currently still under construction, the site will feature new homes, community and retail facilities, new schools, and 120 acres of specially created parkland. Great Kneighton will eventually be home to over 5,800 people, living in over 2,500 properties ranging from one-bedroom apartments to six-bedroom homes - and a lot of them featuring VELFAC windows and doors.

19,500 M2 OF WINDOWS In addition to meeting design and performance specifications, the VELFAC team is also managing the staged delivery of over 19,500m2 of windows to date – a major undertaking and one which requires considerable advance planning, together with skilled project management, to ensure windows arrive on schedule, and at the right location. As Catherine Brooking, Countryside’s Associate Director of New Homes and Communities commented: ‘The success of the project depended on VELFAC’s ability to schedule the design and delivery of a high volume of windows; not only are we happy with the product and its capacity to meet a very wide range of design and performance criteria, but also with VELFAC’s performance as a supplier, given that this is one of Europe’s largest building developments.’

DBA Design Effectiveness Awards 2014 winners announced Design Business Association (DBA) has announced The the winners of the 2014 DBA Design Effectiveness Awards.

The sell-out ceremony saw over 500 guests gather to recognise and reward the significant impact that design can have on business success. The ceremony was held at Tobacco Dock in London and was hosted for the second time by BBC business correspondent Simon Jack. A record-breaking 65 projects secured Design Effectiveness Awards, which are notoriously hard to win. 12 Gold, 30 Silver and 23 Bronze Awards were presented on the night across a range of disciplines from packaging to service design. Special awards for International Export, Materials Innovation and the overall Grand Prix were also presented. Taking home the most prestigious award of the night – the Grand Prix, for the project deemed the most compelling of all the Gold winners by the judges – were B&B Studio and their client Urban Fresh Foods for the much-loved BEAR brand. BEAR has become the fastest growing brand in healthy snacking, delivering over 30million portions of fruit in the UK in 2012. Its pure and natural identity has convinced supermarkets to sit BEAR in the unbranded fresh produce aisle and the brand saw rapid sales growth from £0 to £6.4m in 3 years. The International Export Award (for the most effective collaboration between a UK agency and overseas client) was presented to DewGibbons + Partners and DHU (Deutsche Homöopathie-Union) for their Mama Natura brand – the world’s first global brand of children’s homeopathic medicine, which has seen a 30% rise in monthly sales, alongside a 10% reduction in production costs. WPA Pinfold was another big winner on the night, winning a Gold and two Silver Awards. The Gold Award was presented to WPA Pinfold and its client Croots. The rebrand has positioned Croots as a market leader in the country sports accessories market delivering a colossal 17,963% increase in retail sales and growing exports by 250%. The Design For Society category (recognising design that has impacted people’s lives for the better) saw a Gold awarded to The Team and the Gas Safe Register for Silent Killer – a design solution to motivate long-term behaviour change, which has increased the number of higher risk households having annual gas safety checks by a staggering 300%, helping to avoid the devastating and potentially life-threatening effects of unsafe gas work. Elmwood held onto their position at the top of the DBA Design Effectiveness League Table for the fifth year, winning another 6 awards, including a Gold for Gressingham Duck, along with three Silver and two Bronze Awards. The League Table is calculated every year based on the results of the past three years, acknowledging the most consistently effective agencies. The DBA Design Effectiveness Awards are both prestigious and authoritative – entered jointly by the client and design agency, the submissions must present proof to demonstrate design’s tangible effect on a client’s business. The judging panel consists entirely of clients and this year included senior marketers from brands such as Aviva, Diageo, French Connection, National Trust, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Unilever and Waitrose. The panel was Chaired by Andrew Summers, Chairman of Design Partners.

PORCELAIN PAVING RANGE EXPANDS WITH CONTINUING SUCCESS Greensquares has introduced two new colours to its successful Refin Porcelain Paving range. An appreciation of this alternative flooring material has seen Refin being adopted extensively in domestic, commercial and public projects. Adding a sense of style and elegance, Refin porcelain tiles and paving are available for both indoor and outdoor use with a thickness of 10mm or 20mm as appropriate for the application. Optional pedestal supports reduce both time and cost of installation and allows Refin to be used as a simple retrofit, eliminating the need for unnecessary heavy machinery and large-scale earth works. The introduction of two new colours, ‘light grey granite’ and ‘dark grey granite’, expands its extensive range of colour schemes as demand for the porcelain flooring to be used both indoors and outdoors is ever growing. The highly finished aesthetics of Refin tiles makes it a popular alternative to kitchen and living room flooring while its ability to seamlessly translate into outside paving allows homeowners to maximise their living space while design and quality is un-compromised. A key advantage of Refin’s porcelain is their low porosity of less than 0.05%, which means they are effectively impermeable to any moisture preventing them from staining. The high porosity of natural stone means it stains and discolours easily and requires regular maintenance in the form of cleaning and re-sealing, while Refin’s paving does not need sealing and is virtually maintenance free, only needing warm water to wash away inevitable dirt and leaves. The highly frost resistant quality of porcelain makes it an ideal material for outdoor applications in cold climates while its slip resistance and ability to be cleaned easily make it a very hygienic flooring option for establishments that demand high cleanliness levels and safety

standards, such as restaurants, beauty salons, health clinics, hotels and leisure centres. Greensquares offers its Refin range with two choices of fixing, installation using adhesive for the 10mm thick tiles suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and dry installation for the 20mm thick paving that can either be traditionally laid or mounted on pedestal supports. The pedestals offer a design solution for customers who wish to install Refin porcelain paving on an uneven surface. Conventionally such requests would require large-scale earth works to level off the ground, costly concrete laying and difficult navigation or moving of established pipes, however pedestal installation solves the problem in one simple step. Available in two varieties: fixed supports and support pedestals, they enable the paving to be used on uneven ground by resting over the top and therefore allowing any existing pipes or electrical cables to run undisturbed beneath them. Advanced manufacturing technology has allowed Refin to produce the 20mm paving that are structurally capable of withstanding forces up to 757.6Kg, assuring no detriment to the tiles durability by being pedestal mounted. This extra strength means that areas which experience heavy pedestrian foot traffic such as large commercial areas can now benefit from the quality and luxury Refin’s porcelain paving provides. Refin’s Porcelain Paving also has an environmental advantage as it is manufactured using natural raw materials with any waste products being recycled back into the manufacturing process. No chemicals are needed such as waterproofing agents, varnishes or resins due to porcelain’s naturally resilient quality, thus the carbon output is reduced with Refin. The retail price for Refin’s 10mm Porcelain tiles is £46.20 per square metre. The retail price for the 20mm porcelain paving is £74.96 per square metre, however special offers may apply.

Further information on Refin is available from Greensquares on 029 2037 1584, by emailing: info@porcelainpaving.co.uk or by visiting the company’s website at www.porcelainpaving.co.uk

An avalanche of prizes for RIYA

The Bene swivel chair – now the recipient of five accolades – wins the iF product design award 2014 and honours for GOOD DESIGN RIYA is scoring design awards left and right: Bene’s new swivel chair, designed by PearsonLloyd, will receive two more prestigious prizes – the coveted iF product design award 2014 and the GOOD DESIGN prize from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. This makes a total of five accolades for RIYA so far. RIYA represents passion for innovation and improved ease of use. This novel swivel chair adapts to the user’s body and encourages movement around the different zones and areas of the open office. iF design awards 2014 reward the daring Winning the iF label is a distinction that is recognised all over the world. The success story of the iF design awards speaks for itself: the ceremony will be held this year for the 61st time. iF Industrie Forum Design e.V. has been located at the trade fair grounds in Hanover for more than fifty years. In January, 49 international design specialists evaluated more than 4,600 products, communication materials and packaging submitted from 55 countries. Prof. Fritz Frenkler, the chairman of the jury, was impressed by the considerably high quality of the contributions, the passion for innovation and some manufacturers’ courage in forging a new path when it comes to design. RIYA is a good example of this. Product optimisation and the courage to differentiate yourself with design – these topics will continue to be important in the near future according to the iF design awards jury. GOOD DESIGN 2013 – a label for the most important design products worldwide GOOD DESIGN, a design award for excellent products from Europe, Asia and Africa as well as North and South America, also enjoys worldwide renown and a rich tradition. The architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann Jr. created this prize in Chicago in 1950. The prize has been awarded annually ever since and is organised by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. This year seven hundred products were selected from 38 countries. RIYA – Recipient of five awards Winning the iF design award and GOOD DESIGN impressively confirms the high design quality of RIYA once again. This means that RIYA is now the recipient of five awards: RIYA has already been honoured with the German Design Award 2014, the FX Design Awards 2013 and the Interior Innovation Award 2014. RIYA – The charming chair With its rounded forms, the friendly design of RIYA is setting new standards that contrast with the cold appearance of typical swivel chairs. The control elements have an appealing and clear design. They intuitively make sense on a tactile as well as visual level and are easy to operate. Each element is assigned a specific function. “In our work, we want to question the overwhelmingly technoid aesthetic that dominates office spaces,” the designer Tom Lloyd explains. “RIYA is the result of this continuous design process. With its deliberately open and appealing design, RIYA can be used in the entire office: at classic workstations as well as in collaborative zones or informal touch-down areas. The design of the control elements is intuitively easy and clear. RIYA fulfils all of the technical requirements and still manages to be inviting and friendly.” In the living office, the time has passed when a chair served as a status symbol with respect to hierarchy. Here social and emotional qualities count for more instead. RIYA embodies this “human touch”: Adaptive, comfortable and versatile, RIYA makes a confident statement with its unique language of form.

Soaking tubs from Burlington Bathrooms are custom made for a relaxing wallow.

The latest baths to join the collection are the London round and rectangular models. London Round and London Rectangle both measure 1800mm long by 850mm wide and have an attractive deep rim. The baths can be used with floor or wall mounted fillers.

London Round takes 270 litres and weighs 45kg while London Rectangle takes 290 litres and weighs 50kg. Both baths are acrylic so water stays warmer longer and the surface cannot be damaged by cleaners containing bleach. “A freestanding bath is an outstanding focal point feature in any bathroom,” commented Faye Rainey, marketing manager for

Burlington. ”Freestanding baths also help to give an illusion of space as they don’t visually occupy as much floor area as a built in model. London is a style that can be successfully combined with both traditional or contemporary sanitaryware – and what’s nicer than a lovely soak in a big, comfortable bath after a tough day at work or with the family.”

When the Shetland Islands Council needed to upgrade the heating system in its Port Administration Building on Sella Ness, biomass proved the most cost effective solution. Windhager UK has provided a highly efficient wood pellet boiler system to heat the workshop areas of the building, increasing the comfort of users and considerably reducing energy costs. The solution is the most Northerly installation of a biomass plant servicing the heating requirements of a building in the UK. The Shetland Islands Council, as the Harbour Authority, is responsible for the operation and management of every harbour, except Lerwick Harbour, in over 900 miles of coastline on the Isles. All marine operations are monitored and controlled from the Port Administration Building, which is crucial in the smooth running of council business. Windhager UK, a market leader in biomass and heating solutions, has been able to provide a heating system more suited to the council’s needs than the building’s original oil boilers, which were approaching 30 years old. The initial scheme to upgrade the two existing 350kW oil boilers was changed due to the efficiency and cost savings offered by the Windhager solution. The oversized oil system has been replaced by a 180kW cascade system using three BioWIN boilers, which has a flexibility of heat output that perfectly suits the conditions of the Port Administration Building, where major parts of the system are switched off at times throughout the heating season. John Simpson from the Shetland Islands Council explains the importance of this project in assessing the suitability of biomass as an option for other council

buildings. “The Council’s Building and Transport Services managed this trial installation of three biomass boilers to supply the heating and hot water to buildings on the council’s Port Administration site. The objective of this trial is to assess how a biomass system performs in practice, the footprint involved, and the cost benefits to the council with the advent of the RHI scheme.” The Windhager system includes a thermal buffer vessel, meaning that boiler capacity has been reduced from 700kW to 180kW. John Simpson continues, “Although the system has not yet been tested in cold weather, to-date it has performed very well, and we look forward to it continuing to do so.” Specified and installed by Ness Engineering, specialists in electrical, mechanical and building services, the Windhager boilers are set to considerably reduce energy costs for the Shetland Island Council and improve its green credentials. David Williamson of Ness Engineering comments, “We believe this installation highlights the benefits of biomass from all angles. It fulfils our client’s requirement to lower its carbon footprint and save money from its revenue budgets. We have provided a service to our client for many years and the working relationship we have built up has enabled our promotion of biomass to be taken seriously.” The move to biomass in the Port Administration Building is another step for the Shetland Island Council in reducing its high oil usage. David Williamson

continues, “The professional cost analysis provided showed in pounds and pence that biomass is the correct solution. Promotion of biomass in this installation will show over the coming years that biomass is a sustainable and economic solution for commercial heating systems in Shetland as well as in other remote locations.” The Windhager cascade system is developed to maximise fuel efficiency, and each BioWIN boiler allows a metered and economical output through thermal controlled combustion technology. A patented flexible feed system supplies the pellets, which allows, if necessary, the position of the pellet storage room to be independent of the boiler room. The boilers are reliable and efficient with virtually no maintenance, and with long intervals between cleaning. Available in outputs of 35kW, 45kW, and 60kW and in cascade versions of up to 240kW, the high output BioWIN is the ideal heating solution for large buildings, hotels, schools, public buildings, apartment blocks, care homes and district heating systems. The BioWIN system is both versatile and flexible, equipped for use with other systems. It is also available as a prepackaged plant room, BioCabin, for a total turn key solution for an energy efficient renewable heating solution.

Uniform Architectural Ltd has launched uni_one® Termoscudo, its most energy

efficient window system so far. Termoscudo benefits from sleek aesthetic design details as part of the uni_one® range with additional technology that greatly improves its thermal insulation capabilities to certify it to Passiv Haus standards by achieving a heat loss ‘U’ value of 0.79 W/m2K. The advanced engineering design also improves acoustic insulation giving the window system a value of up to 43 rw (dB) providing increased comfort for the occupants. The discrete Termoscudo technology is inserted between the wood and aluminium frames causing no disturbance to the aesthetics and very little visual obstruction for the users while achieving extremely low thermal transmittance values. Passiv Haus is an internationally accepted assessment tool that sets the standards for components to enable buildings to reduce the need for space heating and cooling to eventually achieve zero carbon emissions. The 44 mm thick triple glazing acts to limit heat loss through the window, while the width of the sash and frame are minimal to allow the windows to harmonise with the architectural design of the building. The environmentally sustainable manufacturing of Uniform Architectural products is carried into the Termoscudo window system and the rest of the uni_one® range. The wood featured on the inside of the window is sourced from sustainably controlled forests and is produced using timber engineering and veneer technology allowing optimal use of the tree. The Techno-Oak frames are innovatively produced by a system of finger joints that creates the parquet effect that in turn stabilises windows, particularly larger frames, as it helps to avoid the natural tensions present in solid wood. An aged effect can be applied to the Techno-Oak that gives it an ‘olde-worlde’ charm and is achieved by using special abrasive brushes which remove the softer wood between the hard grain of oak, giving the wood more depth and character. The outside of the window systems are made of re-cycled aluminium which can easily be re-cycled again and due to the high quality protection from the factory applied powder coating paint system, the exterior aluminium on uni_one® windows requires minimal maintenance and provides excellent resistance to water, sea spray and airborne pollutants. The final painting is done after welding to ensure perfectly sealed corners, which are completely protected by the paint, improving not only the aesthetics but also the durability of the windows. The new uni_one® Termoscudo window system along with the rest of the uni_one® range is featured in Uniform Architectural’s new brochure ‘uni_one®, The Contemporary Window’, is available on request. Icds Arch Ltd Announces X House The First Flat Packed Green Home

ICDS ARCH has plans to build the first self-sustainable flat packed home which is greener than any other conventional home built in UK and it recycles itself through internal systems. We worked on the prototype for the last 8 years and we envisage completing the work on the house starting by the end of this year, which will be good news for local firms and workers. It will be built in UK and shipped all over the world through containers.” ICDS Arch, which has its headquarters in London, was founded in 2011. Leading organisations sound warning about housing standards review The Environmental Audit Committee launched an Inquiry into the Government consultation to examine the Housing Standards Review and the Code for Sustainable Homes. The following are some key thoughts and views from the submissions of evidence by the UK Green Buildings Council, the Construction Products Association and the Royal Town Planning Institute. We thought it might be of interest to communicate some of the thoughts of important organisations in the sector. All the above institutions acknowledge that there is an urgent need for rationalisation and simplification of the existing housing standards. The UK Green Buildings council and the Construction Product Association concur that CSH was helpful since it set out the direction of travel for Building Regulations and gave a sense of what best practice should be for developers. Therefore CSH complete demise would result in losing a momentum that has shaped the way homes have been built over the years. Although CSH became overly administrative, bureaucratic and more costly that initially expected it has many good points and these should not be lost within new Housing standards.

t46t

According to the UK Green Buildings council and the Construction Product Association if CSH is to be phased out a new central scheme, a common framework needs to be developed in order to avoid a chaos of local inconsistent schemes and to further drive the improvement in the industry. The UK Green Buildings council and the Construction Product Association strongly disagree with the omission of any consideration about materials in the new Housing Standards. The Royal Town Planning Institute believes that not sufficient attention has been paid to the potential for higher standards to bring the significant savings for users. Particularly there is a potential for lenders to incorporate the savings as an incentive mechanism into their lending evaluation The Royal Town Planning Institute and the UK Green Building Council share the view that the suitable transitional measures should be put in place by Local Planning Authorities to incorporate standards until the new regulations take over.
