Lakes Bathrooms launches ultra-clear PureVueHD glass without charge Shower enclosure specialist, Lakes Bathrooms, has launched PureVueHD, an optically superior, low-iron glass that appears entirely clear. This new high quality glass is being offered as standard on shower enclosures, doors and bath screens in both its Classic and Coastline Collection, so no incremental charge will be made for this high-end, ultra-clear look. PureVueHD has minimal iron content, meaning that the glass appears clear, rather than having the green tinge that is visible in standard glass. This is because very high transmission levels, of around 90 per cent, enable as much light as possible to pass through PureVueHD glass, making everything viewed through it appear lighter and brighter. With standard glass the iron content reduces light transmission, which creates the green hue that tints everything viewed through it and is particularly noticeable on the edges of the shower enclosure, door or bath screen. This dramatically clearer glass allows the bathroom’s colour palette to be viewed with untainted accuracy. The difference in colours, sharpness and enhanced clarity that PureVueHD makes in the bathroom is like the vivid quality brought to the living room by high definition TV. Whilst low-iron glass can cost as much as 50 per cent more due to the higher grade of silica that it demands, Lakes Bathrooms is supplying it as standard; without adding to its prices. So this visual luxury is now part of all products in its Classic and Coastline collections (excluding only the Mirror range). The choice of PureVueHD products includes shower enclosures, shower doors and bath screens, with over 40 styles. The latest walk-in ranges are included, plus heavier thickness glass, which shows even more strongly the contrast between standard ‘green’ and this new ultraclear glass. PureVueHD products start from £145.00 plus VAT and are detailed in the latest catalogue from Lakes Bathrooms. For more information or to find the nearest stockist visit www.lakesbathrooms.co.uk

Green is so last year

Standard glass has a green tinge

PureVueHD glass is optically superior and ultra-clear

Standard glass always has a green tinge that’s particularly apparent when you view the edge of the glass. PureVueHD by comparison is dramatically clearer. Its reduced iron content reduces the greenish hue to zero levels, so the glass almost disappears and the natural beauty of anything seen through it truly shines. From anybody else this dramatic advance would carry a significant premium. From Lakes Bathrooms, where superior comes as standard, this extra clarity comes with no extra cost. Your local Lakes representative will be pleased to show you a side by side comparison and explain more about the brilliance and immediate availability of PureVueHD enclosures, walk-ins and bath screens.

The Telguard range of telephone, GSM, and soon to be released, SIP based intercom systems are suitable for new build or retro fit. Designed, developed and manufactured in the UK since 1992 we have provided entry solutions for thousands of projects nationally and overseas. The telephone based system plugs in to a standard analogue telephone socket or phone system extension and the GSM system requires a SIM card. The SIP product requires a Broadband connection and a link to the LAN or local Wi-Fi. The only other requirement is for local power and the intercom can be installed.

The Activity Logs provide a record of every function that the system performs backed up with accurate time and date information. The Logs also provide a ‘Dashboard’ to the installer providing operational information ie. Voltage, temperature.

Installation is not disruptive as the installation takes place at the entrance to be controlled and there is no need to put handsets into flats or houses as they are already in place – their own telephone or mobile.

The Telguard system is not only quick to install compared with hard-wired systems but also extremely flexible. Calls can be answered on cordless telephones making it possible for users to answer entrance requests while going about day to day business or it is possible for a mobile phone to be called for access requests.

The telephone numbers of the apartments/ houses/businesses are programmed into the intercom system with any access codes required and the system is ready for use. A visitor enters the flat or house number into the intercom via the keypad and then presses the ‘CALL’ button. The receiver of the call picks the telephone and can speak to the visitor and allow access by pressing a digit on their telephone keypad. This sends a signal to the intercom that activates the door lock or entrance gate and the visitor is able to gain access. If the receiver of the call does not want to grant access they simply put their phone down to end the call. If the resident is out, the system is able to divert the call to up to 8 follow on numbers. This could be to a mobile phone or even a Call Centre where access may be granted from. Telguard benefits from an internal battery backed time clock which enables timed access PINs, timed number divert, disable the system to prevent unsociable calls, timed trade access via a ‘Trade’ button or PIN and a number of other timed features. This facility also updates from BST to GMT as required, again removing the need for a site visit. Any alterations required to telephone numbers or PIN codes can be actioned by the system installer and can be carried out remotely reducing the need for on-site attendance. developer-update.co.uk

We are able to provide systems with backlit keypads and buttons, integrated proximity access and video. The video picture can go to a dedicated monitor or into the communal TV aerial for viewing on any television in the premise. DDA systems are available with large halo illuminated Braille buttons with big letter, easy to read displays and audio and visual call progress indication. Bespoke applications are also undertaken making it possible to provide almost any style or shape of system. It may be that we have to provide a system to replace an existing installation so we are able to manufacture our panel to fit the aperture of an old, non functional system. We are able to manufacture systems in different finishes and colour schemes, we powder coat stainless steel so as to not impact on the vandal resistance of the panel.. As advances in technology arrive in to the public domain, we are always in a prime position to make the most of these advances thanks to our in-house development team. We are also able to engineer modifications to software and hardware should a specific requirement be requested. Our systems carry a 2 year return to manufacturer warranty which can also be extended.

Expressive wall decorations made with perforated metal panels from RMIG combine functionality and aesthetics at an indoor swimming facility. To increase the functionality of the swimming facilities in Hundvåg, it was decided to give the interior an artistic dimension that would counterbalance the hard surfaces and improve the acoustics by reducing noise levels. Artists Marius Dahl and Jan Christensen won the competition for this assignment with a beautiful project, inspired by water and waves. Dahl and Christensen suggested a sophisticated wave pattern to reflect the use of the facilities. RMIG worked closely with the artists and Stålteknikk AS to find the perfect solution for this project. To bring the artists’ vision to life, tailor-made perforated panels and cassettes from the RMIG City Emotion programme were used on the walls, creating a striking 3-D effect.

Functional aesthetics All panels for the Hundvåg project were manufactured from 5754 aluminium, perforated with round holes and finished with a special surface treatment for maximum corrosion protection. Sound absorbing batts have been placed behind the panels to ensure maximum noise reduction. Furthermore, the perforated cassettes have been delivered as complete units, ready for installation, saving valuable time for everyone involved in this prestigious project. COASTAL MARKET BOOM The ever popular coastal housing market is booming, as the trend for seaside living continues in the UK. The market demands the best in design technology, with many buyers insisting upon a high quality specification, even down to the smallest aspects. After all, the beauty is in the detail. Reddiseals, the sash and casement window specialists, have developed a stainless steel sash range just for this purpose; to provide high quality products perfect for use with seaside renovations and new builds. Their range is ideal for coastal regions due to its high resilience to salt spray and sea air. Manufactured from marine grade 316 stainless steel, the products are strong, durable and highly resistant to corrosion – making them the perfect choice.

“A high proportion of our trade customers enquire about this range as they are doing jobs in coastal regions and need something that’s not going to deteriorate quickly,” says Reddiseals Technical Specialist, Steve Maddock. “We’ve been developing our range to offer more stainless steel options and because they are backed by our 20 year guarantee, they’re very popular.”

The beauty of the Reddiseals produced stainless steel sash furniture collection is that it is highly polished and has a shiny, decorative finish which offers a timeless look for both traditional and modern looking buildings – making it the ideal choice for your next project.

Established in 1989, Reddiseals has long been the only port of call for joiners across the country who value the wide range of timber window components and accessories the company has to offer with the added convenience of next day delivery. Providing both casement and sash furniture - not only does Reddiseals provide the products - it also provides the support needed to make your project a success. The stainless steel sash furniture is also the perfect choice for use with Accoya timber beading, as the chemicals in this prestigious wood can often react with metals other than stainless steel. When bringing in their new Accoya wood beading range earlier this year, it was essential to Reddiseals that their stainless steel offering was up to scratch to meet demand.

U+I secures £95m London regeneration scheme U+I has exchanged contracts with Parkdale Investments to bring forward a £95m mixed-use regeneration project on Blackhorse Road in North East London. The 3-acre industrial Forest Works site has the potential to deliver 300 new homes and 5,500 sq ft of commercial space. Next to the Blackhorse Road Station, the site sits within an area that has already been earmarked for significant wider regeneration with over 2,500 homes in the next ten years. S i m o n H e s ke t h , D i r e c t o r o f Regeneration, U+I said: “We are delighted to be working with Parkdale Investments on a mixed-use regeneration project that will deliver significant benefits to the local area. “Forest Works demonstrates U+I’s ability to uncover regeneration opportunities within emerging parts of the London City Region.” An initial planning application is expected to be submitted in early 2017. developer-update.co.uk

Sika Everbuild have announced that they have now been certified to the new international standard for quality ISO 9001:2015 by the British Standard Institute (BSI). The road to achieving ISO 9001 2015 began in 2014 with John Peers, Quality Manager and Andrew Stockill, Quality Assurance Co-Ordinator attending seminars on the changes. In 2015 a three-day training course helped them to gain the knowledge of the auditing process, transition stages and how to implement the new standard within the company. An initial assessment was conducted by the BSI in February 2016 which established that they were taking the correct approach to meet the new standards requirements. All that was required then was to pass the BSIs audit to the new standard and be passed by their compliance team afterwards. Additionally, Sika Everbuild are also pleased to have achieved the environmental standard ISO 14001:2015 from Quay Audit UK.

Islington Customer Centre, London The job/challenge:

UZIN system used in Plattens Fish & Chips refurbishment. UZIN products were recently used to renovate the floor at Plattens Fish and Chip Shop in Wells-nextthe-sea, Norfolk. This was a major redevelopment of the existing fish and chip shop’s restaurant and kitchen. The floor presented a particular challenge because several different products had been installed onto the floors over many years. Superior Finish (Contracts) Ltd turned to UZIN to ensure the installation was completed to the highest of standards, providing durability for the heavy footfall. The old floorcovering had to be removed, before 2 coats of UZIN PE 480 damp proof membrane was applied over the very old sub-floor. UZIN PE 280 primer was then applied, followed by a coat of UZIN NC 150 a heavy duty smoothing compound. Safety flooring was laid, capped and coved in the kitchen and preparation areas whist luxury vinyl tiles were installed in the front of house. Both floor coverings were stuck with UZIN KE 2000 S pressure sensitive adhesive. The job was exceptionally well finished resulting in a durable and attractive floor. www.uzin.co.uk Tel: 01788 530 080 www.superiorfinishcontracts.co.uk www.plattensfishandchips.co.uk

The client approached Olivers Contracts to refurbish 900 m2 of old flooring which had become contaminated and worn from general foot traffic. There were also a few cracks in certain areas. A floor covering had not been present for several years and instead the old subfloor had been coated with some form of seal and paint. Overall, the floor appeared soft and a little unstable which indicated a weak latex based smoothing compound had been installed previously. It was also clearly visible that small areas across the floor had been patched in suggesting previous failures in those areas. A further concern for Olivers Contracts was that premium luxury vinyl tiles needed to be installed within open and expansive areas containing large windows. Consequently, the floor would be subject to a considerable amount of natural light and potential heat. The floor preparation and installation therefore had to be perfect. On top of this the footfall in these areas was going to be high so the installation system needed to be strong even though it would be applied over a soft latex subfloor. Olivers Contracts needed to resolve the problems with the subfloor whilst ensuring the subsequent installation of the new floor covering was adequately protected. For peace of mind Olivers Contracts chose a UZIN system because minimising risk was essential.

The solution / implementation: Previous installations had been undertaken by other contractors by applying low strength latex based smoothing compounds. This resulted in a soft subfloor because the seal and paint were applied directly to the latex. Olivers Contracts therefore turned to UZIN’s premium quality product systems to resolve the problem. A Wolff Samba machine with a diamond bits was first used to remove all contamination and loose latex. UZIN NC 888 feather coat was then used in a few small areas before UZIN PE 280 primer was used to create a barrier between the cementitious subfloor and UZIN NC 110 calcium sulphate based smoothing compound. The luxury vinyl tiles were then installed with UZIN KE 66 high temperature adhesive. Olivers Contracts decided to use UZIN NC 110 smoothing compound as it provided the perfect solution to remedy the projects problems. The product is virtually stress free which dealt with the soft and suspect subfloor whilst offering a strong compressive strength for the new floor covering. The flow and ‘glass like’ smooth finish were ideal and the great coverage provided an added bonus.

The result: The project took place over 4 weekends as planned, without any complications. The client was exceptionally pleased with the finish throughout all areas and there hasn’t been any form of subfloor or product failure since the work was completed. Gareth Jenkins, Project Manager at Islington Council said “I am very pleased with the quality and appearance of the finished flooring and with the performance of Olivers Contracts in laying it.” developer-update.co.uk

20 Heating & Ventilation

Minor changes that result in

big savings With new legislation coming into force to further reduce emissions, Steve O’Neill, Technical Specifications Engineer at burner solutions provider EOGB Energy Products Ltd, looks at the small changes that can be made stay within the limits‌

developer-update.co.uk

Heating & Ventilation 21 Directive 2015/2193 will become UK law in December 2017. Known as the medium combustion plant directive, directive 2015/2193 provides guidance and limitations on the emissions of pollutants such as sulphur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter into the air from the operation of medium combustion plant (between 1MW and 50MW). The directive bridges the gap between the Industrial Emissions Directive 2010/75/EU (the IED) and the ‘Eco Design’ Directive 2009/125/EC. The emission limits vary according to the type of plant and the fuel being used, with the overall aim being the reduction of air-bound pollutant substances entering the atmosphere from the combustion process.

Updating combustion equipment As the demand for more stringent control of harmful emissions increases, appliance manufacturers are being challenged to both develop and bring existing combustion equipment into compliance with increased legislation in the most cost-effective way possible for their clients. Every facility has a unique mix of equipment and regulatory requirements. Therefore, the most cost-effective NOx/ SOX control technology, or combination of technologies, will be different for each application. In addition to complying with the NOx/ SOX emissions requirements, operating companies must also be able to install the equipment to meet compliance deadlines, which can affect productivity and place a financial strain on the companies themselves.

Flue gas re-circulation One relatively inexpensive method of reducing NOX levels is to recirculate a specified percentage of the stack gases back into the combustion air duct prior to mixing with the fuel. This technique is known as flue gas recirculation (FGR). Flue gas recirculation (FGR) is by no means a new technology but it has been proven to be a highly effective technique for lowering NOx emissions from burners in lower temperature applications.

By introducing a calculated quantity of the relatively inert flue gases into the fresh combustion air supply prior to mixing with the fuel, the combustion air becomes oxygen deficient or vitiated. By reducing the oxygen (O2) content in the fuel air mixture one of the main constituents in NOX is diminished thus reducing the propensity for NOX formation. Due to the fact that the fuel/air mixture has been further removed from its stoichiometric equivalence ratio it stands to reason that the flame temperature will be reduced by a certain amount. The resultant reduction in flame temperature leaves the designer/ operator with the dilemma that the burner will encounter a potentially significant loss in power, which must be calculated for. This could potentially manifest itself in the form of a larger burner/appliance being required to achieve the desired heat input.

Zeldovitch mechanism It is a fact that the formation of thermal NOX increases exponentially as the flame temperature increases. The quantity of thermal NOx produced can be predicted by a calculation known as the extended Zeldovitch mechanism. The extended Zeldovitch mechanism identifies three factors to be considered when predicting the formation of thermal NOX: • • •

Fuel/air ratio Residence time at high temperature Time

The level of flame cooling will depend upon the percentage reduction in O2 content within the fuel/air mixture and can be quantified via the use of thermodynamic principals. The thermodynamic principals also identify the potential for the impairment of burner stability. The use of FGR reduces flame temperature by altering the fuel/air mixture. The fuel/air mixture is not only a key factor in the formation of thermal NOX but is also one of the three factors that affect burning velocity, which is critical in ensuring the aforementioned stability. The other critical factors are temperature and pressure.

Effectively the rate of reaction or burning velocity of the mixture is reduced. This all adds up to the reduction in both flame temperature and thermal NOX formation, but it does allow for the formation of other unburned hydrocarbon species (UHC’s) and consideration must be given to this fact at the design stage.

Finding the best solution FGR can be the perfect solution for operators of lower temperature applications in achieving lower emission levels. In fact, early research into FGR identified that by recirculating up to 25% of the flue gases through the burner, thermal NOx formation could potentially be reduced to as little as 25% of its normal levels. Before adopting the FGR technique, it’s important to involve your burner supplier right from the beginning of the design stage. The system must allow safe operation throughout the full turndown range of the plant under all circumstances. It may be necessary to further insulate the flue components and consideration will have to be made to ensure the safety of all operating personnel. EOGB offers a free no-obligation ‘health check’ service to give companies an honest evaluation of how their current heating system is performing and illustrate what savings can be made with some very minor adjustments.

innai’s latest innovation in the energy efficient fast delivery of instantly useable hot water is the Infinity Solo Re-Circulator water heater.

The Rinnai Infinity Solo condensing and low NOX water heater is the first of its kind for the UK to combine the advanced technology of wall mounted continuous flow water heaters with a stainless steel storage cylinder, all in one compact footprint. The design parameters of this product empowers specifiers, designers, installers and engineers to benefit from unique Rinnai technology in applications it was once not previously possible. For instance, the Infinity Solo will have both 35kW and 54kW sized appliances, ensuring sites with a smaller gas meter can readily use this technology. The larger Infinity Solo model will also act as a high-efficiency alternative to gas fired storage appliances that exist in today’s market. The cylinder is stainless steel and this reduces the weight compared to glass lined models, and it makes transportation and installation a lot easier. As well as the difference in weight, the cylinders also have extremely low heat loss figures (as low as 1.41kW/h day), so the user pays less to maintain the heat within the tank. One other benefit of the Infinity Solo using a stainless steel cylinder is that the life expectancy of the material is far

Rinnai Goes Solo For Continuous Flow With a Store‌. greater than that of a glass-lined equivalent as glass suffers from thermal shock causing it to crack after a period of time. The Infinity Solo range is also renewables compatible and supplied pre-fitted with a coil, meaning that the primary energy source will always be from renewable gains and the complementary Rinnai water heater will only apply the precise amount of gas to boost the difference in temperature. developer-update.co.uk

Rinnai manufactures the energy efficient Infinity range of gas fired continuous flow water heaters and space heaters. The Infinity brand carries the widest range of condensing water heaters on the market today with the most impressive efficiencies in operation, leading the field in technological innovation. Don’t allow Subfloor Moisture to Delay Occupation with F. Ball’s Range of High Performance Waterproof Surface Membranes! As the UK’s premier flooring product specialist, F. Ball has developed a specialist market leading range of high performance products, providing a wide range of tried and tested subfloor moisture control solutions. The technical experts at F. Ball know that the way to ensure the lasting performance of a new floorcovering installation is to deal with any damp or moisture problems from the outset. If not dealt with successfully, not only will the appearance of the new floorcovering be ruined, but the very fabric of its construction and ultimately the integrity of the installation, will be compromised too. Every specifier and contractor knows the old maxim ‘time is money’, so when there are products that can deliver better economy, are easier to apply, and provide time-saving solutions guaranteed to perform perfectly, they’re bound to attract a lot of attention. Accurate moisture testing in accordance with the British Codes of Practice BS 8203, BS 5325 and BS 8201 is essential to determine the Relative Humidity (RH) level developer-update.co.uk

within a subfloor. F. Ball recommend moisture levels be checked accurately by use of their approved Digital Hygrometers. An indication of the presence of moisture can be quickly determined using the Protimeter Aquant or Protimeter Moisture Measurement System (MMS). If the relative humidity is below 75% it is safe to proceed with a fitting. Where the RH is above 75%, the installation should not proceed, as excess moisture in the floor could result in blistering of the floorcovering or complete failure of the flooring installation. This may result in expensive and lengthy remedial work, including the possibility of a costly ‘rip out’. Visual inspection is insufficient as a surface can appear dry while excess moisture is still present. Once levels have been accurately measured and confirmed, you then need to apply the best Waterproof Surface Membrane available. If the RH measurement is above 75% and up to 92%, F. Ball recommend to use one coat of Stopgap F76 or Stopgap Isolator Membrane. If the RH is above 92%, F. Ball recommend to use Stopgap F77, F78 or Stopgap Isolator Membrane. (Wood floor installations should be a maximum of 65% RH, consult the wood floor manufacturer) The treatment of subfloor moisture problems is very serious to consider before beginning any major flooring project. For further information on the complete F. Ball range of Waterproof Surface Membranes, moisture control and moisture measurement please visit the F. Ball website www.f-ball.co.uk or tweet us on the dedicated Twitter support profile @ASKFBall

Dickies launch fashionable two-tone trousers to bring style to the workshop Dickies launch fashionable two-tone trousers to bring style to the workshop

Dickies have introduced a number of exciting new products and ranges for 2016, with style and functionality that offer unsurpassed value for money. Technicians can now look fashionable while at work when they wear the new tone-tone ED24/7 trousers. The 245gsm fabric ensures they are tough but light enough to retain agility. Most importantly they are free of any exposed metals such as zips, and buttons making them scratch free. With cargo pockets to ensure direct access to your tools enabling you to finish the job quickly and easily. Using the two-tone colours you can easily match the ED24/7 to any other item of clothing in the extensive Dickies workwear range. New colourways are being added all the time. Redhawk Stud Front coveralls are popular with mechanics as it is Dickies most affordable workwear where economy is a requirement, often in high volume applications. Functional and durable, these garments retain Dickies traditional construction standards. The Redhawk coverall has a concealed studfronted pocket design to prevent scratches to paintwork. The Deltona Boot may well be the best value safety boot on the market for those working in a workshop environment where an SRC sole unit and anti-slip properties are imperative. The protection within the toe-caps and midsole is completely metal-free, which helps keep the weight of the boot to a minimum. The uppers are manufactured from a water resistant black leather and have a breathable lining too. Also available is Dickies Preston boot, which is a steel-toe cap boot, with the addition of steel within the midsole for underfoot protection. The uppers are a high quality full grain leather with water resistant properties and the product also features a breathable mesh lining. These boots provide a comfortable ride, with a cemented rubber outsole and a shock absorbent heel. Visit www.dickiesworkwear.com for more information.

Automated Doors Hit the Right Note at Liverpool Philharmonic Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is an Art Deco wonder. Built in the 1930’s, its structured clean lines encompass interior detail which echoes the elegance of a bygone era. But the venue is also a thriving contemporary arts and entertainment venue – home to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and presenting more than 350 concerts and events annually, including music, comedy and film – and therefore opens its doors to all. So, when it came to a £14.5 million refurbishment, it was vital to fuse functionality with sensitivity within the Grade II* listed building. Improved accessibility needed to be incorporated and the remotely located control box was concealed within the Art Deco fittings. The solution was found in GEZE UK’s TSA 160 UFO automatic under floor operator for swing doors. GEZE UK was the immediate choice for building contractor Gilbert Ash which had to incorporate the new with the old – a bank of timber-leaved doors with etched glass insets that front the imposing building. The TSA 160 UFO not only powers the heavy doors with ease but has the added bonus of being virtually silent in operation – making them ideal for a building renowned for its acoustic properties. The doors were designed by Liverpool Philharmonic Hall’s architect Herbert Rowse as one of its many decorative elements. The designs on the etched glass relate to the fluidity of music and the ensemble of instruments that make up the orchestra. However, as manual swing doors incorporating plate glass they could be difficult to manoeuvre for young visitors and those with restricted mobility. And with close to 1700 people attending performances, the need to provide an automatic alternative was a must to allow visitors ease of access – from front to lobby and lobby to foyer. developer-update.co.uk

In order to fit the under floor operators part of the original stone floor needed to be lifted and carefully reinstated to preserve the authenticity of the Art Deco interior. The TSA 160 UFO was specified because the operator is fully concealed under the floor allowing the ornate doors to take pride of place. The TSA 160 UFOs are tamper proof, easy to maintain and virtually silent in operation and can operate door leaves of up to 120kg in weight. Jayne Garrity, Liverpool Philharmonic’s Head of Communications said: “Improving accessibility for visitors to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall has been central to our refurbishment programme. The provision of automatic doors at the main entrance to the venue and lift access throughout the Hall for the first time are amongst a number of improvements we’ve provided designed to enhance our visitors’ experience.” Kaz Spiewakowski, managing director of GEZE UK, said that that every heritage building brings a unique set of challenges but that technological solutions could be incorporated into historic interiors. “This is a landmark building in the city and we are very happy that GEZE’s automatic swing door operators could improve the ease and accessibility of this prestigious venue,” he said. For more information about GEZE UK’s comprehensive range of automatic operators, manual door closers and window technology products call 01543 443000 or visit www.geze.co.uk.

STG450 FOR TOTAL FLOOR REFURBISHMENT Heavily trafficked and worn hard surfaces that have become scratched, stained and contaminated and where mopping, scrubbing and vacuuming has failed to work, can easily be refurbished by deep restorative cleaning with the right equipment.

The Preparation Group, specialists in surface preparation, removal and finishing, recommends the STG450, a surface texturing and grinding machine that takes the effort out of tough jobs. It is easily adapted for multi-functional use without the need for tools by interchanging accessories and plates, from metal drive plates to diamond cleaning pads. The STG450 is operated with a simple lever and a dust control skirt minimises dust pollution when fitted to a vacuum unit. It can be used wet or dry and presents a low cost option with virtually no maintenance, for high levels of productivity. Available in 110v, 230v or 415v options. When fitted with the correct accessories, just some of its applications include; grinding and smoothing concrete, removing coatings, cleaning and polishing terrazzo, removing adhesives and sanding wooden floors. Adopting sustainable methods for refurbishment and cleaning, The Preparation Group offers Surface Finishing Diamond Pads (SFD’s) and Storm Diamond Pads to fit the STG450 along with standard rotary cleaners, auto scrubbers and polishing machines. These pads do away with the need for harsh chemicals and remove the need to ‘recoat’ floors with environmentally unsound and expensive waxes or polishes. They create a hygienic, shiny, yet non slip floor on hard floors, by adding just water. SFD’s are for use where the surface is damaged, deeply scratched or has a high build-up of surface contaminants. They grind, key, sand and polish without clogging meaning no interruptions to

developer-update.co.uk

the operation. They comprise of resin diamond dots which are bonded to the pads and it is the dots that do the work on; epoxy resin, linoleum, concrete, ceramic tiles, granite, marble and terrazzo. Storm Diamond pads are designed to effectively refurbish and maintain surfaces. They produce optimum results on resin, epoxy, terrazzo, marble, natural stone and concrete with the finer 1500 and 3000 grade pads effectively maintaining vinyl. The coarsest pad is the 400 grade for removing contaminants, which can then be followed by working up through the finer grit sizes to achieve a deep clean and high shine polish. They are double sided and manufactured with up to 33% more diamond content than competitor brands, resulting in greater metre coverage per hour for quicker, more effective results. For a demonstration of the multifunctional STG450 or of the pads in action, call +44(0)1522 561460 or visit www.thepreparationgroup.com. The Preparation Group also operates the UK’s largest surface preparation contracting service, PPC and is happy to provide a no obligation project quotation for carrying out works.
