Under Floor Air Conditioning Upsurge in Latvia AET Flexible Space; in conjunction with their distribution partner in Latvia, Hitex, are delighted to have received orders to supply their under floor air conditioning systems to several major refurbishment projects in Riga. AET Flexible Space has previously achieved success in Latvia at the Nordea Bank Headquarters in Riga, a building awarded with “Most Energy Efficient Building” and “Most Sustainable Building” in Latvia 2011.

Triangulas Bastion, Riga

Mikrotik – artists impression

The AET Flexible Space system utilises the plenum as the ventilation duct, eliminating the need for ceiling based duct work, making it easy and economical to adapt to changes in the workplace. Conditioned air is introduced into the space via floor recessed fan terminal units; or Fantiles, which are easily relocated within a 600mm raised floor and also feature integrated controllers, allowing users to personally adjust temperature and fan speed settings. The concept has been fully adopted by leading developers in Latvia seeking a comfort cooling solution that can be easily adopted into older building stock, adapt to future changes in office configuration as well as cater to extreme climate fluctuations experienced in Riga. Over the course of 2016, AET and Hitex have been working to fulfil three orders to major re-developments in Riga; the Triangula Bastions Business Centre, the Mukusalas Business Centre and the Mikrotik company’s restoration of the historic VEF production hall. The area and surrounds of Triangula Bastion are part of Riga’s 17th -19th century fortified wall system and the now glass fronted building has retained a part of the original wall from the historical fortification, with panoramic views over the Daugava River and Riga. The glass fronted building has 4500 m2 usable office space over four storeys and was last refurbished to Cat-B standard in 2003. Mukusalas Business Centre has eight office buildings on the former site of a 19th century steel foundry; which subsequently became the production site for Carl Zeiss optical equipment in 1912, replaced later by Riga Radio Factory. Mukusalas plans to further develop the area are committed to preserving historical features whilst continuing the tradition of innovation by offering modern workspace for leading companies. AET Flexible Space envisages that their concept of flexible, underfloor air conditioning systems will fit with the Mukusalas development plans and hope for further orders after successful completion of this initial project. Currently undergoing full restoration is the historic VEF production hall in Riga; constructed in the late 1800’s and housing a number of electromechanical companies, until VEF, or the State Electrotechnical Factory took over the site in 1928. VEF maintained their position as the largest electrical manufacturing company in Latvia until the Second World War. In 1989, the two buildings on the 13,000 m2 site were destroyed by fire and were left disused until now. Restoration of the building envelope has already begun and constructors hope to complete the challenging project by summer 2017. The brief is to create modern hi-tech workspace whilst preserving historical features and the visual image of the original construction. All the above projects are currently underway, or on order and are due to be completed over the course of 2017. AET Flexible Space is delighted with this upturn in European business and hopes that Under Floor Air Conditioning will become standard in Latvia as well as neighbouring Baltic regions. developer-update.co.uk

innai’s latest innovation in the energy efficient fast delivery of instantly useable hot water is the Infinity Solo Re-Circulator water heater.

The Rinnai Infinity Solo condensing and low NOX water heater is the first of its kind for the UK to combine the advanced technology of wall mounted continuous flow water heaters with a stainless steel storage cylinder, all in one compact footprint. The design parameters of this product empowers specifiers, designers, installers and engineers to benefit from unique Rinnai technology in applications it was once not previously possible. For instance, the Infinity Solo will have both 35kW and 54kW sized appliances, ensuring sites with a smaller gas meter can readily use this technology. The larger Infinity Solo model will also act as a high-efficiency alternative to gas fired storage appliances that exist in today’s market. The cylinder is stainless steel and this reduces the weight compared to glass lined models, and it makes transportation and installation a lot easier. As well as the difference in weight, the cylinders also have extremely low heat loss figures (as low as 1.41kW/h day), so the user pays less to maintain the heat within the tank. One other benefit of the Infinity Solo using a stainless steel cylinder is that the life expectancy of the material is far greater than that of a glass-lined equivalent as glass suffers from thermal shock causing it to crack after a period of time. The Infinity Solo range is also renewables compatible and supplied pre-fitted with a coil, meaning that the primary energy source will

Rinnai Goes Solo For Continuous Flow With a Store‌. always be from renewable gains and the complementary Rinnai water heater will only apply the precise amount of gas to boost the difference in temperature. Rinnai manufactures the energy efficient Infinity range of gas fired continuous flow water heaters and space heaters. The Infinity brand carries the widest range of condensing water heaters on the market today with the most impressive efficiencies in operation, leading the field in technological innovation. Locally-made ground source heat pumps help luxury coastal development work in harmony with its surroundings A landmark luxury housing development of 36 flats and houses currently under construction amongst the famous dunes of Perranporth beach in Cornwall is demonstrating pioneering architectural harmony and sustainability within its environment, utilising local companies and ground source heat pumps that have been manufactured by Kensa Heat Pumps just 10 miles from the former hotel site. ‘The Dunes’, set for completion in June 2018 by developers Acorn Blue, has completed the groundworks stage for Kensa’s Shoebox ground source heat pumps, which will be sited inside each of the dwellings, providing 100% of the two blocks of flats and nine coach houses’ heating and hot water. Simon Lomax, Kensa Heat Pumps Managing Director, comments: “Given its spectacular location alongside one of Cornwall’s premier beaches, we applaud Acorn Blue’s pioneering decision to specify ultra-low carbon heating systems for ‘The Dunes’. Investing in ground source heat pump systems will ensure the lucky purchasers benefit not only from the lowest possible running costs but also a technology which is remarkably reliable and durable. Best of all, this renewable installation is entirely unobtrusive so there is no visual intrusion on such a stunning setting.” The ground source heat pump system features communal boreholes dug in the periphery of the site, six metres from the edge of the dunes, to depths up to 130m; in total 3km of borehole pipework has been installed. The communal system, based on Kensa’s awardwinning micro-ground source heat network design, sees five district arrays consisting of 19 boreholes in total; on one array 17 individual flats will be provided heat to their own individual Kensa Shoebox heat pump from one double-probe borehole. The micro-ground source heat network approach qualifies ‘The Dunes’ project for 20 years of income via the Government’s Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). It is expected that the RHI income for The Dunes will total £411,000, with £16,000 paid in year one, more than offsetting the cost of the system.

David Stein, Acorn Blue Construction Director, comments: “Aside from the inherent advantages associated with the adoption of renewable energy in respect of improved SAP rating, lower carbon footprint, RHI payback and generally ‘feeling good’, ‘The Dunes’ was a natural candidate for ground source heat pumps. There is no natural gas in the area and the geology is known to be highly suited to GSHP’s. Furthermore, by adopting Kensa’s Shoebox and micro-district design we realised we could eliminate any centralised plant, thereby increasing sales area and at the same time offer direct individual control and metering of their heat source to individual purchasers.” The individual Kensa ‘Shoebox’ ground source heat pump located within each property overcomes traditional setbacks of plant room designs and is exempt from the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations, and unlike traditional district heating schemes provides complete heating and hot water control to the homeowners, offering individual bills and freedom to switch suppliers. The Shoebox heat pump offers simple installation from both a mechanical and electrical standpoint. Kensa Heat Pumps will working alongside Acorn Blue’s M&E contractor to install the ground source heat pump unit’s and ensure compliance with the Microgeneration Certification Standards (MCS). Each dwelling is to be fitted with ‘Heatmiser’ thermostats, which will talk to smart phone controls. Individual heat and electric meters will email daily heat and electric consumption data to Acorn Blue, enabling performance monitoring and compliance with RHI requirements.

Protecting efficiency

Schiedel Protect Box

The new Schiedel Protect Box provides a safe and secure solution when installing a stainless steel System Chimney through an air tight house, allowing the steel chimney to pass through floors and roofs safely, without compromising efficiency. Recognised at June’s Hearth and Home exhibition as runner up in the Fireplace and Flue category, the Schiedel Protect Box is the ideal solution for energy efficient dwellings. Suitable for hot or cold roofs, ceilings and floors, the Schiedel Protect Box is used in combination with an EPDM flashing kit, allowing the chimney to pass through an air tight membrane. Made from Rockwool tube bound with an aluminum laminate outer layer, the 100mm outer skin of rockwool insulation ensures safe distance to combustible materials, whilst the EPDM flashing grips the outer case of the 50 mm insulated chimney section, creating an air tight seal. The edges of the EPDM flashing are then sealed onto the air tight membrane using the special tape provided in the kit. The Schiedel Protect Box can be used straight or at an angle, simply cut on site to the correct degree. developer-update.co.uk

Schiedel Protect Box benefits: • Allows for extremely air tight construction • Compatible with loft insulation up to 700mm depth • Meets blower door test • Constructed using high temperature resistant Rockwool • Aluminium laminate outer surface • Zero distance to combustibles

David Wright, Residential Sales and Marketing Manager for Schiedel Chimney System, said: “The Schiedel Protect Box is the ideal addition to our product range, designed to ensure that Stainless Steel System Chimneys are fully compatible for use on wood burning stoves running through modern, energy efficient homes. Going forward, all new homes will have to be built to certain levels of air tightness, and with stoves making a significant contribution to cutting fuel bills in these properties, it’s essential that efficiency is not compromised.” www.schiedel.co.uk

Aladdin

EasyFit Isolator the quick-fit plumbing isolation-valve for pressurised-pipe What happens when you get to a job and you can’t find the stopcock or gate valve? Or when its inaccessible, seized up or broken? Or if you want to isolate a single apartment rather than a whole building? Professionals cut pressurised pipe only as a last resort. Until today, if a plumber needed to isolate part of a 15mm water-pipe system for maintenance or repair there were only 2 options: draining down, or freezing. Both methods take 30 to 50 minutes and damage the environment through dumping (particularly hot) water, or releasing hydrofluorocarbons (gas-freezing). Now there is a quick, simple and environmentally friendly third option: the Aladdin EasyFit Isolator can be inserted leak-free into 15mm (or ½”) pipe, even where there is live pressurised hot or cold running water, in just 3 to 5 minutes.

Aladdin Autovents • Keep Radiators and towel rails hot to the top. • Vents air or gases automatically so do not require manual purging • Reduces radiator corrosion • Avoids call out costs for landlords, tenants and householders. • Reduces corrosion and system noise • Keeps system running efficiently and saves energy. • Fit and forget, no more radiator keys. • Life time leak free guarantee. • Both types works vertically or horizontally

• Is a substantially “greener” solution than: a. Gas-freezing: using the Aladdin EasyFit Isolator avoids emitting HFCs (hydrofluorocarbon gases), environmentally harmful “greenhouse” gases. b. Draining-down: using the Aladdin EasyFit Isolator avoids wasting water; and for hot water, avoids the requirement to consume energy to heat the re-fill. c. Electric-freezing: avoids the consumption of considerable electricity as well as the capital cost BETA-TESTING - 20 plumbing maintenance or rental of the electric-freezing equipment. companies, including most of the majors, helped with beta-testing in an EEDA-sponsored testing programme, and KEY FEATURES: The Aladdin EasyFit Isolator NLB is taking ongoing orders from these companies. 1. Is made with WRAS-approved seal materials and lubricants incorporated into a stainless steel Body. All materials and assembled product are WRAS approved. John Heffernan, inventor and NLB’s founder says: “We are now well into repeat orders since we started production. Because the Aladdin EasyFit Isolator saves so much time and therefore money versus its alternatives, we expect demand to continue growing as more and more installers and maintenance companies see the value in this time saving solution.”

West End Wet Rooms Benefit From Elegance Of Dallmer Drainage Channels

A high specification refurbishment and extension project at a residential property in a desirable area of West London has included installation of linear shower drains selected from the extensive range of Dallmer Limited. The 40-week project on the home in Lansdowne Road was carried out by J&Z Construction Ltd under the supervision of the company’s own architects, with the four storey building being completely gutted and an extra level of accommodation added in the roof-space. Two stylish shower spaces were created: one designed as a wet room while the other featured a two metre high glass wall set into a floor channel, with a rain head over. J&Z Construction’s interior designers chose products from the Dallmer range to ensure water was removed unobtrusively but effectively from the floor. Dallmer supplied two of its Ceraline-W-800 mm floor channels with Ceraline Custom cover plates. In both cases the floor drains, with their adjustable ball joint outlet connection, have a flow capacity of at least 48 litres/minute, were installed along the base of the back wall to the showering area, with the client’s preferred floor finish fitting seamlessly around and into the elegantly engineered channel sections. The height adjustable floor channels feature sound absorbing leveling legs and the drain body has an easily removeable trap. Like the cover plates, they are manufactured from 304 grade stainless steel and they incorporate.a sand-coated flange for the secure bonding of under tile waterproofing membranes. A spokesperson for J&Z Construction commented: “Our company has been established for more than a decade and with our teams of highly trained site teams and architects we endeavour to give the best possible service to our clients in London and the south east.. As well as luxury renovations, extensions and new builds, we specialize in the design and fit out of kitchens and bathrooms. Dallmer ‘s CeraLine is so easy for us to fit and have proved ideal for this and many other contracts.” For further information please contact: Mr. John Purser, Dallmer Ltd., 4 Norman Way, Lavenham, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 9PY. 30 Bathrooms & Washrooms

Washroom Design for the Well Educated With so many rules and regulations surrounding the practicalities of washroom design in educational settings, Daniel Ward, Twyford Product Manager, talks us through the dos and don’ts of sanitary specification for the school environment. Specifying products for washrooms within the education sector may seem like a fairly straightforward task, but there are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account to ensure not only that regulations are met, but that the space is well designed, comfortable and practical. Lack of privacy, vandalism and inadequate cleaning and maintenance can make a visit to the toilet an unpleasant and unhealthy experience for students. In fact, recent research undertaken by charity Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence (ERIC) highlighted that the quality of school toilets has a huge impact on pupils’ health, education and happiness. Therefore the design of washrooms in education premises needs to be about a lot more than simply providing enough toilets and washbasins.

Laying out the order The overall layout of school washrooms is a good place to start. As well as adhering to regulations regarding wheelchair accessible cubicles, all standard cubicles must have a minimum 450mm-diameter manoeuvring space that is clear of the door swing. And of course, when you are designing spaces for growing children, the sizes and fixing heights of sanitaryware must be suitable for the relevant user age groups too. Short projection WCs offer a good solution here, creating the necessary space while still ensuring user comfort. Wall-mounting the pan with a suitable framing system will enable the height of the WC to be easily adjusted during installation, to better meet the needs of the user.

Hygiene first Aside from layout, hygiene in this environment is extremely important too, with ease of cleaning being key to students’ health and wellbeing. So much so that the Department for Education offers guidance on the issue, stating that to avoid build-up of dirt and germs, the toilets in schools should be wall-hung or back to wall.. This also offers a solution with regards to ensuring plumbing work is tamper-proof, a particular point of note when specifying for colleges and universities which serve older children and young adults. The cistern and pipework concealed within the framing system, preventing interference, while being easy to access for maintenance purposes. A dual-flush cistern sitting neatly behind the wall will also help to significantly reduce the amount of water used, while not affecting overall flushing performance. This is particularly important in educational establishments, which are high-traffic areas with the potential for toilets to be flushed literally hundreds of times in any one day.

It is also worth noting that in schools, particularly where younger users are present, the recommendation is also to avoid urinals, but where they are specified to opt for individual bowls rather than a trough, with modestly panels for privacy. developer-update.co.uk

• Twyford offers a Rimfree school pans and Flushwise water-efficient WC flushing options. • Twyford offers specific designs for each age group, from nurseries through to adult education and the less able, with products to answer every need and every educational location. • A dedicated Education range incorporates water saving innovations: all Twyford WCs comply with UK Water Regulations and its 4 litre, single flush, low water consumption options comply with BREEAM.

Water-saving pays off The washbasins in school washrooms should also be subject to a number of practical considerations. Of course, ease of cleaning for hygiene reasons remains imperative, making ceramics that are coated with an easy to clean glaze a particular benefit, while the choice of brassware is also important. Not only should mixer taps for washbasins be robust and tamper-proof, ideally they should be fitted with an automatic shut-off too, either through a built-in timed delivery feature or infra-red sensors.

Energy and water are a major proportion of non-staff costs in schools, colleges and universities and a major part of their environmental impact. While some schools will have greater scope for savings than others, overall more than 20% of energy is wasted, and a school that is equipped with water conservation devices, such as taps with automatic shut-offs or flow restrictors, plus dual-flush WCS, typically use less than half the amount of water used in schools where such features are not present.

Longevity guarantee Keeping maintenance levels as low as possible is an important requirement in school buildings, where downtime in washrooms can be at best inconvenient for staff and students. This makes the specification of quality sanitary fittings that will be hard-wearing and durable, of particular significance. To limit the frequency of replacing such fixtures and fittings, their life expectancy should be around 15-20 years, with a manufacturer’s guarantee providing the best scope for this.

There are undoubtedly a lot of things to consider when designing washrooms for educational establishments, with all elements really carrying an equal weight of importance. The trick to ticking all of them off and achieving a successful design is to establish a strong relationship with a manufacturer who is able to respond to all aspects of a washroom’s design, from layouts and dimensions to styles and materials as standard, so that there is never any need to compromise. Quality Door Distribution PM-Mendes (International) Limited is a long-established, family owned business, originally trading in panel products, before moving into timber components and doors. Our products are now imported from the Far East and distributed to a wide range of users throughout the country. For over 20 years PM-Mendes have dealt with a carefully selected range of manufacturers with proper financial backgrounds and managements who are prepared to work to our high standards of quality. Our core belief is to do what is right and fair rather than what is expedient at the time, which also extends into our environmental beliefs. The factories that we use have always sourced their core products from managed forests, although we have since gained accreditation in PEFC, FSC and Chain of Custody, adding to our range of FSC products all the time. Both our Head Office and warehouse facilities are based in Corsham, Wiltshire, conveniently close to the M4. A combination of good location, our own fleet of vans and 7.5 tonne trucks, transport backup from selected hauliers and well-stocked warehouses means we can quickly satisfy customer demands throughout the country. As of January 2011, we opened our Northern Office, which is run by a highly experienced and competent team based in Liverpool. These two strategic geographical locations ensure that we fully understand the local economy and therefore the needs of our customers, tailoring products and prices accordingly. Our range of doors, both internal and external, are manufactured to an extremely high standard, by factories that are considered to be market leaders in providing value for money without compromising on product quality. All of our timber products are made using the preferred engineered construction. This system reduces waste, making it both environmentally sound and cost-efficient. The doors are built up using a cross-laminated procedure and then real wood veneers are applied as the top layer. This ensures maximum stability, reducing the risk of warping and bowing, whilst still allowing the beauty and warmth of a natural product to shine through. Because of this added strength, we are able to offer a 10 year guarantee from the date of delivery on the majority of our products. Flowcrete UK Launches Comfort Resins Range Flowcrete UK has launched a new comfort flooring range to provide the developers and designers of commercial and public facilities with finishes that will deliver the necessary practical, aesthetic and budgetary criteria.

The Comfort Resins collection includes the systems Peran Comfort and Peran CHD as well as Flowshield Comfort and Flowshield CHD. These self-smoothing and flexible polyurethane coatings are all able to create a durable, seamless and easy to clean surface that will withstand intensive foot traffic, rigorous cleaning as well as the scuffs, stains and scratches that the floor will face on a daily basis. Flowcrete UK’s Managing Director, Kevin Potter, said: “We’ve compiled our Comfort Resins collection as there is a growing demand in the construction market for flooring solutions that combine design with comfort and care. “This is a particular issue within locations such as hospitals, schools and shopping centres, where it is imperative that the floor retains a hygienic, visually appealing surface despite a variety of challenging operating conditions that could stain, chip, erode or crack an insufficiently robust floor finish.”

Available in a variety of colours, the Comfort Resins range is ideal for creating a minimalist, warm and modern aesthetic that will complement a contemporary interior design scheme. The bright, smooth and seamless surface conveys a pleasant and positive atmosphere, which in retail locations can help to keep customers happy and engaged. These flooring properties can also be a distinct asset in the healthcare and education sectors, which want to avoid an ‘institutional’ look without compromising on cleanliness and functionality. The robust nature of the CHD systems means that they can even retain a hygienic, attractive finish within industrial facilities.

The Peran systems consist of an aliphatic main layer with a clear aliphatic topcoat. This formulation increases the UV stability, meaning that it won’t lose its colour or vibrancy after prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

The durability of the polyurethane solutions in the Comfort Resins range means that every system will be able to maintain its visual and functional properties for an extended period of time.

The Flowshield solutions represent the cost effective end of the new range. Created using an aromatic main body with a coloured aliphatic topcoat, Flowshield Comfort and Flowshield CHD provide the same cleanability and aesthetic properties but don’t have the enhanced UV stability of the Peran systems.

To find out more about the new Comfort Resins range head to www.flowcrete.co.uk/comfortresins or contact one of Flowcrete’s flooring specialists by emailing uk@flowcrete.com or call 01270 753000.

This SuDS Park on Australia Rd in White City, London, manages rainwater to protect the combined sewer but just as importantly creates a high quality social and event space for the local community between a school and two playgrounds. Rainsculptures, raingardens and ‘wiggly wall’ through ornamental grassed basins all celebrate rainfall.

This formal landscape, at the heart of the new Bromsgrove civic, centre stores and infiltrates rainwater over the whole landscape. Some rainwater is harvested and recycled by a solar-powered pump to create a cascade water feature on sunny days.

Landscapes Creative that come alive Design of when it rains SuDS Most peope in urban design, development, drainage and planning will have heard of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) by now. But most will be mainly aware of schemes employing large unsympathetic and sometimes dangerous storage basins or invisible, underground attenuation such as crates and tanks. This doesn’t have to be the case and for over twenty years, Robert Bray Associates have pioneered a different approach in the UK that treats rainwater as an opportunity to enhance the landscape for people and wildlife rather than as a problem to be ‘dealt with’. Cleaning and storage of certain volumes of water when it rains is only a small part of a Sustainable Drainage System’s life. Most of the time SuDS features are empty and quite

Employing SuDS at the new Bewdley School Science Block was an opportunity to create a science garden where pupils can observe and measure the forces of water in action with rainwater directed to a waterwheel, a tipping bucket and a Torricelli tube as well as a wildlife pond and raingarden.

often dry. To have areas of land set aside for this purpose only is wasteful and can be expensive. By taking a different approach to modelling and managing rainfall, the design team at Robert Bray Associates are able to exploit opportunities for storage or infiltration throughout the whole development. By using pockets of greenspace, public open spaces and selective use of permeable paving from the top of the site to the bottom, less space is required at the bottom of the site for final storage basins. Spreading SuDS throughout the landscape and regarding rainwater as an opportunity allows the SuDS to contribute to more dynamic, biodiverse and attractive developments. At Robert Bray Associates their aim is to “create landscapes that come alive when it rains and make people want to go outside when it rains”.

Features that manage rainwater are placed throughout this innovative housing development in Stroud. A raised pool, rills in front of properties, a dramatic cascade, a lush garden rill and a play basin generate a uniquely beautiful sense of place and a well-used communal landscape.

Don’t allow Subfloor Moisture to Delay Occupation with F. Ball’s Range of High Performance Waterproof Surface Membranes! As the UK’s premier flooring product specialist, F. Ball has developed a specialist market leading range of high performance products, providing a wide range of tried and tested subfloor moisture control solutions. The technical experts at F. Ball know that the way to ensure the lasting performance of a new floorcovering installation is to deal with any damp or moisture problems from the outset. If not dealt with successfully, not only will the appearance of the new floorcovering be ruined, but the very fabric of its construction and ultimately the integrity of the installation, will be compromised too. Every specifier and contractor knows the old maxim ‘time is money’, so when there are products that can deliver better economy, are easier to apply, and provide timesaving solutions guaranteed to perform perfectly, they’re bound to attract a lot of attention. Accurate moisture testing in accordance with the British Codes of Practice BS 8203, BS 5325 and BS 8201 is essential to determine the Relative Humidity (RH) level within a subfloor. F. Ball recommend moisture levels be checked accurately by use of their approved Digital Hygrometers. An indication of the presence of moisture can be quickly determined using the Protimeter Aquant or Protimeter Moisture Measurement System (MMS).

developer-update.co.uk

If the relative humidity is below 75% it is safe to proceed with a fitting. Where the RH is above 75%, the installation should not proceed, as excess moisture in the floor could result in blistering of the floorcovering or complete failure of the flooring installation. This may result in expensive and lengthy remedial work, including the possibility of a costly ‘rip out’. Visual inspection is insufficient as a surface can appear dry while excess moisture is still present. Once levels have been accurately measured and confirmed, you then need to apply the best Waterproof Surface Membrane available. If the RH measurement is above 75% and up to 92%, F. Ball recommend to use one coat of Stopgap F76 or Stopgap Isolator Membrane. If the RH is above 92%, F. Ball recommend to use Stopgap F77, F78 or Stopgap Isolator Membrane. (Wood floor installations should be a maximum of 65% RH, consult the wood floor manufacturer) The treatment of subfloor moisture problems is very serious to consider before beginning any major flooring project. For further information on the complete F. Ball range of Waterproof Surface Membranes, moisture control and moisture measurement please visit the F. Ball website www.f-ball.co.uk or tweet us on the dedicated Twitter support profile @ASKFBall

Smith’s Space Saver SS80 goes Dutch and Swedish Smith’s Fan Convectors market-leading Space Saver plinth heater has been given a profile boost in the Dutch and Swedish markets. A new slim-line version of the Smith’s Space Saver was launched last year - the Smith’s Space Saver SS80 - making it the only plinth heater in Europe that fits IKEA-style 80mm plinth heights. The Space Saver SS80 fits much narrower plinths found in kitchen designs popular in Scandinavia and Germany. Like its taller counterparts, installing the Space Saver SS80 frees up wall space for extra work surfaces and more storage or desirable kitchen appliances. It provides an alternative for home owners having to make do with a panel radiator or expensive under-floor heating. A CGI animation demonstrating the way the Space Saver works to create additional storage in your kitchen, has been edited to include a Dutch and Swedish voiceover. The Dutch version is now available to watch on Smith’s Environmental Products’ YouTube Channel. Smith’s new Space Saver hydronic plinth heater represents the first of a number of innovations planned for the product.

The Smith’s Space Saver installs discreetly into the dead space under fitted units and is now supplied as standard with a stainless steel grille, as well as being available in alternative finishes. The Space Saver SS80 is suitable for heating rooms up to 24m3 and could also provide an alternative heat solution for bedrooms and office furniture that also have plinths. It uses an extremely low water content when compared with a radiator and so it will heat up much more quickly than both radiators and underfloor heating, as well as affording users more responsive controls. The SS80 is now available nationally from all good merchants and online stockists. For more information contact Smith’s Environmental Products on 01245 324900 or at www.smiths-env.com, or sales@smiths-env.co.uk. Follow Smiths Fan Convectors and Smiths Space Saver showcase on LinkedIn here www.linkedin.com.

Jim Bennett, Smith’s Sales & Marketing Director, stated, “The Space Saver is a key appliance for the New Build and RSL markets, as well as for the mainstream consumer. We believe that the Dutch and Swedish markets, like the UK, will appreciate what it can offer in terms of controllable warmth in kitchens where space is at a premium. Installers can use it to replace a radiator and because it will work off any wet central heating system, it’s a simple replacement that gives so much more to the end user.”
