Alba Martínez, a chemical engineering undergraduate at UPC has created a new product called CellPLA composite. As part of her final degree project, Alba created a new recycling protocol that offers industry a viable alternative for treating plastic waste as part of the sector’s circular economy.
The project that she completed included a new protocol that aims to use enzymes to modify polymer chains.
These modifications react with the addition of cellulose to create a new elastic material with a good texture, ready to be reused.

3- ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING The best option: electric mobility
A study carried out by the University of Cambridge concluded that electric vehicles are the best option for sustainable transport. They offer better energy performance and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in the transport sector. The study also reveals that progress in decarbonizing the network and technology are significantly improving the effect of reducing CO2 emissions.

2- CREATIVE ENGINEERING Being creative
Creativity is essential for overcoming times of crisis like the present. Engineering students at Harvard University have attended their virtual classes from home and are therefore unable to use the 3D printers, laser cutters and other tools. To overcome this limitation, a university team has sent students a home remote control kit with all the tools and components they need to design and complete their final projects. The idea behind the project was to use the material they were sent to create a basic robot.
