It all started with one cow, and a

You have probably heard the age-old saying, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.” The most important part? The comma. In other words, the pause in this phrase carries the most weight. It represents all the miles in between the initial dream and the final destination—the journey. Ten years ago, Mike purchased a pretty, Polled baby doll heifer from Carlos Guerra. He set out to Linn, Texas that day on another mission, and when he got back to the ranch and told Benton the news, he asked him, “Well, what are we going to do with just one?” The rest, as they say, is history. A spark that laid kindling in Mike’s heart from all the years he worked for Clifford Ranch growing up was reignited, and his dream of one day re-entering the registered Brahman business became a reality. Over the years, Mike and Crickett, along with their son Benton, built a genetic base of Polled Brahman cattle that has received worldwide recognition for the ranch. When Benton’s wife, Brooke, joined the team in 2019, the duo collectively ramped up marketing efforts, resulting in a larger domestic customer base that spans from the East Coast to the West Coast, as well as the Midwest. The England’s also added Thailand to their international clientele in 2020, with the goal of expanding into more countries very soon. Despite all of the challenges of the past year due to the pandemic, England Cattle Co. successfully hosted their first-ever production sale on March 21, 2020. The first annual “Brahmans on the Rio” Production Sale featured 20 total lots, and grossed an excess of $140,000, with an average of $8,775 across 14 live cattle lots. An impressive feat for a registered cattle operation to achieve in less than a decade of production.
England Cattle Co. is respected around the world as one of the most progressive Polled Brahman operations, with their genetics spanning across the United States, along with Africa, Australia, Mexico and Thailand. In 2021, England Cattle Co. was recognized as the No. 1 “Brahman Operation with the Most Polled and Scurred Registrations” in the USA, published in the April Edition of The Brahman Journal. In addition, four of the Top 10 Producing Polled Grey dams and three of the Top 10 Producing Polled Grey sires in the USA, to date, are owned or co-owned by England Cattle Co. Celebrating 10 years in the business is both a humbling and rewarding achievement. The journey to get here took years of hard work, trial and error, perseverance, and most of all, grit. Looking back, the ups and downs of good weather years, followed by droughts, breeding success and ones that missed the mark, big wins and missed opportunities, etc. have all led to this moment and have helped define the course for the future. As a family, we are excited to welcome you to our home in Mercedes, Texas, to share our elite genetics with you in a live sale format. As Brahman breeders, we are proud to present to you our completely POLLED offering, with some exciting new genetics that we believe will advance the breed as whole. We are cattle producers first, and Polled breeders second. Our main goal and the focus of our breeding program will always be centered around producing, in Mike’s words, “top-quality cattle for the cowman.” The fact that they are Polled is an added value for our customers.
