On Friday, Jan. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. will be a discussion of the 2020 cruise. It will cover basic information about the cruise. The senior center will host an all-day program on Friday, Jan. 25, starting at 11:30 a.m. A free meal of lemon pepper chicken and rice will be available to members and future members age 60 and over. After lunch, starting at approximately 12:45 p.m., Tall in the Saddle will perform a variety of music, including country/ Western and oldies. Games and activities will be available. At 5 p.m., September House will serve a home-style spaghetti dinner, including sides, water and dessert. A disc jockey will provide music during and after the meal. Tickets are not required, but reservations are requested. To make reservations, readers may
call Marie at 717-848-4417. A study group has formed for those interested in obtaining their ham (amateur) radio operator’s license. The group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. The group plans to set up a radio station in the near future, and members will attempt to contact radio operators from other states and countries and at the International Space Station. Daily workouts are offered from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial arts program, is taught by a certified teacher on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. The senior center also offers cards and games throughout the week. Pinochle is played every Monday from 1 to 4 p.m., chess is played on Wednesdays from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m., 500 bid is played on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and the bridge club meets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. The center offers shuffleboard on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m., and additional players are being sought. All are welcome to play or watch. Board games, cards and jigsaw puzzles are also available for everyone to enjoy. In addition, wood burning classes and workshops are held on the first and third Fridays. September House delivers meals to homebound seniors on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, and volunteers are needed to help with these deliveries. Routes are within a few miles of the center, and the time commitment is one to two hours.
Relay For Life Event Planned The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of York will kick off its fundraising season on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m. at Escape Room Dilemma, 2300 Industrial Highway, York. The public is invited to attend and learn more about the Relay For Life movement while navigating an escape room. Participants may sign up for a time slot between 5 and 7 p.m. with friends or family members. There is a cost per person. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Relay For Life of York. To register

Hiking Club Plans Events The York Hiking Club will host several hikes and special events during January. For more details and weather updates, readers may

appropriate footwear, and bring water, snacks, and/or lunch, as applicable. Carpool fees apply to most hikes. A Pork and Sauerkraut Hike will take place at JPJ cabin, 1145 Furnace Road, Airville, on Sunday, Jan. 13. Jim McCoy will lead a 5- to 6-mile circular hike, which will leave from the cabin at 10 a.m. The hike will include rugged terrain, but the hike will be set at a comfortable pace. The meal will be served at 1:30 p.m. to both hikers and non-hikers. Reservations are required and must be made by 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. There is a cost for the meal. Bringing a place setting is encouraged, but paper goods will be available. Guest speaker Ron Warner will return to talk on “The Greatest Earth on Show,” a program about hiking the Colorado Plateau. A 4.5-mile hike just south of the Mason-Dixon Line to Parkton, Md., will be offered on Sunday, Jan. 27. Hikers will traverse the Northern Central Railroad Trail called the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail and walk along the icy Fourth Mine Branch of Little Falls Creek. Participants will depart at 1 p.m. from York County School of Technology. SMBA To Host Concert The Seven Mountains Bluegrass Association (SMBA) will host a concert by Michael Cleveland and The Flamekeepers on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. The concert will take place in the social hall at the Goodwill Fire Company, 2318 S. Queen St., York (Spry area). Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Cleveland is an 11-time IBMA Fiddler of the Year. In 2018, he was inducted into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame. Cleveland was with Rhonda Vincent and The Rage when they won Entertainer of the Year from IBMA,
and he was also part of Dale Ann Bradley and the Coon Creek Girls before starting The Flamekeepers. Also playing at 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 12 will be The Buffalo Mountain Band from Newport, Perry County. The band consists of brother and sister Canyon and Autumn Moore. Both of them have been the recipients of SMBA scholarships to further their knowledge of their particular instrument. The kitchen will be open and operated by the Goodwill Vo l u n t e e r f i r e f i g h t e r s a n d
ladies’ auxiliary members. There is a separate charge for the food in addition to the tickets for the show. The family show will be smoke- and alcohol-free. Separate ticket costs have been set for SMBA members and for nonmembers. Members pay an annual membership fee, and attendees are welcome to join SMBA the night of the show. Art Exhibit To Feature Graphite Drawings The York Art Association will host an exhibit titled “Inventing History,” featuring graphite drawings by Richard Chandler Hoff, in the Nancy M. Woodward Gallery, 220 S. Marshall St., York. History Center To Offer Updates York County History Center will host project updates on the progress and status of the History Center’s new Museum and Library Archives at the former Met-Ed Steam plant in York. The bride-elect is the daughter of Robin Stevens of Manchester and Michael Klinedinst of York and the stepdaughter of Todd Stevens of Manchester. She graduated from York County School of Technology in 2012 and from Ashworth College in 2014. She is employed by WellSpan Pediatrics in County School of Technology York. Mr. Hake is the son of Earl and is emplyed by LKQ in York. A May 2021 wedding is Hake of Spry and the late Christina Kann. He attended York planned.

YWCA Posts Mermaid Fun Swim Class A Mermaid Fun Swim class will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at YWCA York, 320 E. Market St., York. Boys and girls age 6 and up will learn how to swim like mermen and mermaids.
Instructors will give participants tips on how to swim with a mermaid tail, and attendees may participate in activities in the pool. Participants must provide their own mermaid tail. Adults must accompany any

Piano students from Raspberry Hill Art and Piano Studio performed in a Christmas recital on Dec. 2 at EUM church of Windsor. McNeal brings 26 years of law enforcement investigative and policy development experience to this position. She has a threeyear contract with the Diocese and will operate independently, reporting her recommendations directly to Bishop Ronald W. Gainer. McNeal has been granted complete access to all the Diocese’s records. In addition to reviewing every clergy child abuse case reported to the Diocese, including all previous reports, McNeal will meet with survivors to hear their stories and determine what stage they are at in the healing process. McNeal will also work with
parish pastors/administrators, parish staff, school administrators/principals, and appropriate Diocesan department heads to ensure that all adults who come in contact with minors are effectively screened and trained according to the Diocese’s regulations, policies, and procedures. She will also ensure that children in the Diocese’s Catholic schools and religious education programs participate in the required Safe Environment training program. During her 26 years with the State Police, McNeal was assigned as the chief administrator for the Megan’s Law Sexual Offender Registry for the entire state of Pennsylvania. In this role, she oversaw the entire operations for this department, including developing policies and procedures, developing a plan to automate the offender registration process, and overseeing the development of the

Kindness Coin Ceremony Held Club Will Accept Grant Applications First The Celebrating York’s Unity first coin. Numerous individu- minted and awarded through
Uptown York Rotary Club (UYRC) strives to attract a diverse group of professionals who share a passion for giving back to their community and making a difference in the world. The club’s service focus areas are downtown revitalization, environmental sustainability, and community and youth development. One way the group serves its focus areas is to provide funding for initiatives that make a difference in the community. UYRC is launching a Community Giving grant program to identify and support needs in its service area. Grant applications will be accepted three times per year, with the first session opening now and remaining open through Friday, Feb. 15. Grantees can apply for two levels -
up to $500 for programs that serve the UYRC service area and up to $1,000 for the programs that serve the UYRC service area and impact one of Rotary’s six areas of focus. Grants approved by the Rotary Club of Uptown York are to support programs that service York and the York County community. The club is particularly interested in supporting organizations whose best practices and initiatives support Rotary’s six areas of focus: Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic and Community Development, Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, and Water and Sanitation. Not-for-profit or 501(c)(3) organizations may apply for a grant. Selection criteria

Organization To Offer Internships Farm Show To Showcase The Central Pennsylvania Congressional Internship Association, formerly the Fourth Congressional District Internship Association, has announced it is accepting applications from local college students with an interest in growing their leadership skills through public service during a 10-week paid summer internship program with a member of Congress. Taking place from May through August, the Summer Internship Program awards several area college students a chance to experience the realities of public service through full-time internships with Congressman Scott Perry, who serves the 10th Congressional District, encompassing Dauphin County and parts of
York and Cumberland counties. Undergraduate college students who are residents of the 10th Congressional District of Pennsylvania and have completed their freshman year of undergraduate studies by the beginning of the internship are eligible to apply. Each intern will spend five weeks in Washington, D.C., assisting with legislative projects and also spend five weeks assisting with constituent casework in one of Perry’s district offices in the Harrisburg area. Thanks to financial donations from members of the Central Pennsylvania Congressional Internship Association and other donors, the interns receive a weekly stipend, and
intern housing is provided at no charge while the interns work in Washington, D.C. Housing is not provided while the interns work in the district offices. Notable program alumni include Pennsylvania state Rep. Kate Klunk and Chris Gray, senior adviser to the Office of the Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration. Interns are selected based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and their demonstrated commitment to the ideals of public service. YCAS Plans Starwatch The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will host a public Starwatch at its observatory at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. The evening will begin with a screened astronomical presentation on current events and the January night sky. Guests will then be guided on a tour of the sky using one of
the club’s telescopes. Attendees will be shown celestial objects to include the planet Mars, the Andromeda galaxy, star clusters, nebulae, and more. If it is clear, all activities will occur as scheduled. If it is completely cloudy or raining, the indoor activity of a screened astronomical presentation will occur as
scheduled. When arriving at the park, drivers should use the main park entrance, not the administrative office entrance. Hot beverages and light refreshments will be available. Agricultural Heritage The 103rd Pennsylvania Farm Show began on Jan. 4 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, 2300 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg. It will continue through Saturday, Jan. 12, with daily hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 12. This year, the Pennsylvania Farm Show is honoring agriculture’s rich heritage and promising future with the theme “Inspiring Pennsylvania’s Story.” The theme will be showcased in related events like a daily story time for children, interviews with Pennsylvanians working in agriculture, and opportunities for attendees to engage and tell their own stories. The theme was incorporated into special events and activities at the Farm Show Complex on Jan. 7. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is known to be the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event,
featuring 12,000 competitive exhibits, more than 5,200 of which are animal competitions, plus 300 commercial exhibitors. This year’s event will feature demonstrations, competitions, programs, entertainment, and more, as well as the butter sculpture on display. The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau exhibit area, located in the Exposition Hall near the main food court, will feature an interactive baseball-themed area, free animal visors for youngsters, and a family photo booth. Additionally, a representative from the Government Affairs and Communications Division will be on hand to answer questions about current issues impacting farmers and Pennsylvania agriculture. Only service dogs are permitted at the facility during the Farm Show. No dogs are permitted in the poultry area.
Admission is free, and there is a parking fee in Farm Show lots. Off-site Farm Show parking lots are located east of the complex at the intersection of Elmerton Avenue and Sycamore Drive and at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, on Wildwood Park Drive, directly north of the complex. Handicapped-accessible parking is located at all lots operated by the Farm Show Complex, and individuals can also be dropped off in the circle of the Cameron Street Lobby.
