Rite Aid and The Rite Aid Foundation have announced that more than 550 medication disposal units across the nation are now searchable on Google Maps, making it easier for people to safely dispose of unneeded or unwanted medications. To find a safe medication disposal unit in a Rite Aid store or a KidCents Safe Medication Disposal Unit in a local police station or law enforcement agency, users can search on Google (including Google Maps on a browser or mobile device) for “medication disposal near me.” Google will show results with the closest Rite Aid medication disposal units for people to safely dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs. The partnership with Google is one of several initiatives Rite Aid has implemented as part of its comprehensive strategy to address prescription drug abuse and misuse. In 2017, The Rite Aid Foundation launched the KidCents Safe Medication Disposal program. The program provides law enforcement agencies in communities served by Rite Aid with free medication disposal units for
individuals to safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications. Since its launch, the program has expanded to 18 states. To date, the foundation has partnered with more than 400 law enforcement agencies to make more than 450 units available to customers and communities. In 2018, Rite Aid announced plans to install 100 medication disposal units in stores across the country. In addition to medication disposal units, The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program has made a multi-year commitment to the Prescription Drug Safety program, a digital course about prescription drug abuse prevention. Developed by EVERFI, the course uses an evidence-based public health approach to empower high school students with the skills and knowledge they need to make safe and healthy decisions about prescription drugs and prevent abuse before it occurs. As a result of The Rite Aid Foundation’s commitment, the Prescription Drug Safety program will be made available to more than 400 high schools in California, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and

$1,000 donation to Project SHARE, a Carlisle-based organization that provides groceries and other essentials to more than 1,000 local families in need each month. Giant introduced Giant Direct earlier this year to accelerate the company’s e-commerce strategy. In February, the company opened a 38,000-square-foot Giant Direct e-commerce hub in Lancaster that serves as a central shipping location for online delivery orders in the region. The hub also permits customers to place orders on-site via electronic tablets allowing for pedestrian pickup as well as the traditional
car curbside pickup. The e-commerce effort has continued over the past five months, as Giant has added Giant Direct to stores across its network. Giant Direct provides customers with a wide assortment of products with the same quality and service available from local Giant stores and Martin’s Food Markets, now combined with the technology of Peapod. Online customers can shop for thousands of items, including private label products, national products, fresh produce, meat and seafood, deli meats and cheeses, natural foods, glutenfree foods, organic foods, house-
hold items and even rotisserie chicken. By linking their Bonus Card, customers can earn Gas Extra Rewards on qualifying purchases and can redeem their digital coupons to save on groceries. All orders are hand-picked by associates. To place an order with Giant Direct, customers can use any device to visit www.giant direct.com or use the Giant app, enter their ZIP code and begin shopping. Before checking out, they will be asked to select either delivery or pickup. As the service rolls out, new customers will receive promotional offers that include free delivery or pickup for a trial period and a discount on their first order. Through openings to date and additional locations planned for the remainder of the year, customers across 90% of the company’s footprint will have access to online grocery ordering and delivery services. Giant Food Stores was founded in 1923 in Carlisle. For more information, readers may visit www.giantfoodstores.com or www.martinsfoods.com.
Bob Weed (second from left) of Project SHARE accepted a check for $1,000 from April Mock (far left), Giant; Nick Bertram (second from right), president, Giant; and Tim Dinsmore (far right), store manager, Giant, on July 12 at the Giant Store at 255 S. Spring Garden St., Carlisle. The event’s purpose was to acknowledge the 100th store to offer Giant Direct, the company’s online grocery service offering pickup and delivery.
