Strange Old Lady Please be careful. This person has found her way into my house and could also get into yours! A very weird thing has happened. A strange old lady has moved into my house. I have no idea who she is, where she came from, or how she got in. I certainly did not invite her. All I know is that one day she wasn’t there, and the next day she was. She is a clever old lady and manages to keep out of sight for the most part, but whenever I pass a mirror I catch a glimpse of her. And, whenever I look in the mirror to check my appearance, there she is hogging the whole thing, completely obliterating my gorgeous face and body. This is very rude! I have tried screaming at her, but she just screams back. The least she could do
is offer to pay part of the rent, but no. Every once in a while, I find a dollar bill stuck in a coat pocket or some loose change under a sofa cushion, but it is not nearly enough. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I think she is stealing money from me. I go to the ATM and withdraw $100, and a few days later, it’s all gone! I certainly don’t spend money THAT fast, so I can only conclude that the old lady is pilfering from me. You’d think she would spend some of that money to buy wrinkle cream. And money isn’t the only thing I think she is stealing. Food seems to disappear at an alarming rate - especially the good stuff like ice cream, cookies, and candy. She must have a real sweet tooth, but she’d better watch it, because she is really packing on the pounds. I suspect she realizes this, and to make herself feel better, she is tampering with my scale to make me think I am putting on weight too. For an old lady, she is quite childish. She likes to play nasty games, like going into my closets when I’m not home and altering my clothes so they don’t fit. And she messes with files and papers so I can’t find anything. This is particularly annoying since I am extremely neat and organized. She has found other imaginative ways to annoy me. She gets into my mail, newspapers, and magazines before I do and blurs the print so I can’t read it. And she has done something really sinister to the volume controls on my TV, radio, and telephone. Now all I hear are mumbles and whispers. She has done other things - like make my stairs steeper, my vacuum heavier, and all the knobs and faucets harder to turn. She even made my bed higher so that getting into and out of it is a real challenge. Lately, she has been fooling with my groceries before I put them away, applying glue to the lids, making it almost impossible for me to open the jars. She has taken the fun out of shopping for clothes. When I try something on, she stands in front of the dressing room mirror and monopolizes it. She looks totally ridiculous in some of those outfits, plus she keeps me from seeing how great they look on me. Just when I thought she couldn’t get any meaner, she proved me wrong. She came along when I went to get my picture taken

Hi, everyone! Holy moly, June is almost half over already! Why is time flying by soooo fast?! Well, I really wanted to know, so I did some research and here is what I found. There is actually a scientific reason for time seemingly flying by as you get older. Each year seems to go by faster and faster as you get older and older, and it has to do with our memories. A reason for this odd phenomenon is that our early years are full of experiencing events happening to us for the very first time. Our memories take more detailed accounts of these first-time events and they leave a lasting impression on us. Once we experience these life events more often, they have less and less special meaning to them and our brain captures fewer and fewer details about these things. Our brain encodes new stimuli into memory and it takes longer to process the new and detail-rich information, so time feels like it is happening at a slower pace. So when you’re younger and experiencing all of these first-time events, you have more details to access and it seems like time stands still. Later in life your brain goes into storage-saving mode and records fewer of your life experiences, making time seem to fly by. The older we get, the more familiar we become with our surroundings and our daily routines. Our brains don’t have any new information to record. I got this information off a website called BroBible. If you would like to read more about it, please visit their site. There is a lot more interesting information on it!

Police Officers from pg 1 Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) held a law enforcement education and activity day for participants in BBBSCR’s “Bigs in Blue program at HACC’s Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center. Through BBBSCR’s “Bigs in Blue program, police officers become mentors to children and young adults at schools in the communities they protect and serve. Each police officer meets with his or her “Little a few times each month on-site at the child’s school. A total of 11 law enforcement departments, including the Pennsylvania State Police, participate in the program across BBBSCR’s five-county service area of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and Perry counties. On May 20, students from across all of BBBSCR’s five-county service area met their “Bigs in Blue mentors at HACC to learn about safety, police officer training and physical fitness. Student attendees arrived from the following school districts: Carlisle, Central Dauphin, Derry Township, Harrisburg City, Lebanon City, CornwallLebanon, Lower Dauphin, Mechanicsburg, Shippensburg and Susquehanna. Police officer mentors arrived from the following law enforcement departments: Carlisle Borough, Derry Township, Highspire Borough, Hummelstown Borough, Lower Paxton Township, Mechanicsburg Borough, Pennsylvania
State Police, Susquehanna Township and Swatara Township. Students and their police officer mentors started the day at the Shumaker Public Safety Center with a video about the training facility. They then attended sessions on emergency management, de-escalation tactics and physical fitness activities. The sessions were designed to reinforce school safety policies and expand the students’ knowledge of appropriate safety steps to take in various situations. The students also enjoyed fun challenges as they learned about physical health. Attendees took a break for lunch and regrouped for a K-9 presentation. The students watched police dogs demonstrate various commands and learned about how police dogs assist their officers and the different training tests they perform. Following the K-9 presentation, students sat down for oneto-one time with their mentors. Students discussed what they learned with their mentors and asked the police officers what kind of training they go through for their law enforcement careers. For more information, readers may visit www.capbigs.org. Free Blues Concert Planned Paramount Senior Living at Lancaster County, a personal and memory care residence located in Maytown, will kick off its summer concert series with a free blues concert by two-time Blues Music Award (BMA) winner Biscuit Miller and his band, The Mix, on Thursday, June 20, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The outdoor concert will be held at Paramount Senior Living at Lancaster County, located at 2760 Maytown Road, Maytown. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and coolers are not permitted. Those attending the free concert are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will be allowed to set up starting at 4:30 p.m. Miller won his first BMA as Best Bass Player in 2012. He won the award again in 2017 and has played with other respected blues artists such as Mojo Buford, formerly with Muddy Waters, and Lady Blue, who toured with Ike and Tina Turner. Miller is known for his high-energy shows and connecting with his audience through a fun and funky approach to the blues. Miller plays bass and handles the lead vocals and will be joined by Doctor Love, Myron Robinson (drums), Bobby B. (guitar), and Alex “Southside Smith (guitar). Readers with questions about the June 20 concert can call 717-4685155.
