ARRIVING LATE?
Chatter Hi, everyone! Happy July Fourth! Remember to give thanks that we live in the greatest country in the world. Please pray for our men and women in the military as well as the civilians of the USA. National Anthem (This was written by Chaplain Jim Higgins on May 14, 2007. LSA Anaconda is at the Balad Airport in Iraq, north of Baghdad.) “I recently attended a showing of ‘Spider-Man 3’ here at LSA Anaconda (in Iraq). We have a large auditorium we use for movies as well as memorial services and other large gatherings. As is the custom back in the States, we stood and snapped to attention when the national anthem began before the main feature. All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the way through the National Anthem (when) the music stopped. Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22-year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and call for a movie. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the national anthem in the first place. Here, the 1,000 soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again. The soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. And again, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect to happen? Even here I would imagine laughter as everyone sat down and expected the movie to start. Here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every soldier stood at attention. Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was filled with the voices of a thousand soldiers: ‘And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?’ It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in Iraq. I wanted you to know what kind of soldiers are serving you here.”
God Bless the USA By Lee Greenwood If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life, And I had to start again with just my children and my wife. I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today, ’Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away. And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today. ’Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A. From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee, Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea, From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA, Well, there’s pride in every American heart, And it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today. ’Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A. His cake-day is July 3. I hope your day is jam-packed full of aweBrown Sugar Smokies someness, Jon! Happy birthday to Sue Garrison of Bacon-wrapped yummies! You can Royalton! Her cake-day is July 3. I hope make these little smokies on skewers or
toothpick them to secure. Ingredients: 1 pound bacon 1 (16-ounce) package little smokie sausages 1 cup brown sugar, or to taste Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2. Cut bacon into thirds and wrap each strip around a little sausage. Place the wrapped sausages on wooden skewers, several to a skewer. Arrange the skewers on a baking sheet and sprinkle them liberally with brown sugar. 3. Bake until bacon is crisp and the brown sugar melted (about 20 minutes). Tip of the Week When baking, where recipes call for water, use club soda instead to make pancakes, waffles, and any other breads fluffier! Fact of the Week Americans eat 20 billion hots dogs annually, which is about 70 hot dogs per person. They are served in 95% of American homes. Jokes of the Week -Why did the nurse need a red pen at work? In case she needed to draw blood. -Yesterday I saw a guy spill all his Scrabble letters on the road. I asked him, “What’s the word on the street?’ -Why do bees have sticky hair? Because they use honeycombs. -Did you hear about the two people who stole a calendar? They each got six months. -I got my daughter a fridge for her birthday. I can’t wait to see her face light up when she opens it. Thank You Thanks to my pal Francis Kasper of Middletown for the piece called “National Anthem”! That was such a heartwarming story. Food for Thought Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. -Henri Nouwen

To apply, candidates had to demonstrate leadership ability, commit to attendance and participation in the required events, be currently licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, be a PBA member, and be age 40 years or younger or have practiced five years or less. Mundorff of Connellsville, re-launched the BLI when she became the 2010-11 president of the PBA. Its current purpose is to inform participants on the day-to-day operations, governance, resources, and staffing of the association, as well as to provide introductions to its various leadership opportunities.

CCA Holds Kindergarten Graduation Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), a public cyber charter school with more than more than 9,500 students enrolled in Pennsylvania, held a graduation ceremony on May 29 in Harrisburg for
kindergarten students from central Pennsylvania. It was one of five graduation ceremonies taking place around the state for more than 250 students in the kindergarten Class of 2019.
Commonwealth Charter Academy recently held a graduation ceremony for kindergarten students.
The celebration recognized the academic achievement of kindergarten students and offered an opportunity for them and their families to meet fellow CCA classmates, families and teachers in person. CCA celebrated the students’ academic success by honoring each student with a copy of the Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” To further encourage their educational growth in preparation for first grade, the CCA bookmobile was onsite to provide families with free books to promote summer reading. This year marks CCA’s 15th kindergarten graduating class. In mid-June, CCA was slated to award diplomas to nearly 1,000 high school seniors during four graduation ceremonies scheduled throughout Pennsylvania.
