Hi, everyone! Welcome to August! The last month of summer (not officially, but in my eyes it is!). My favorite time of the year is just around the corner! The “Ber months (SeptemBER, OctoBER, NovemBER, DecemBER!). But for now, I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy August ... no matter how hot, hazy, and humid it gets. Control Your Temper There once was a little boy who had a very bad temper. His father decided to hand him a bag of nails and said that every time the boy lost his temper, he had to hammer a nail into the fence. On the first day, the boy hammered 37 nails into that fence. The boy gradually began to control his temper over the next few weeks, and the number of nails he was hammering into the fence slowly decreased. He discovered it was easier to control his temper than to hammer those nails into the fence. Finally, the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father the news and the father suggested that the boy should now pull out a nail every day he kept his temper under control. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there. Moral of the Story: Control your anger, and don’t say things to people in the heat of the moment that you may later regret. Some things in life, you are unable to take back.

MIDDLETOWN EDITION

The Dauphin County Library System board of trustees has announced the appointment of Karen Cullings as the system’s next executive director. Cullings has served as interim executive director since July 2018. Cullings began her career in libraries at Bosler Memorial Library in Carlisle where, as a high school student, she worked as a page part time and also volunteered. A lifelong learner and an avid reader, Cullings returned to library employment in 1991 when she started at Dauphin County Library System as the adult services librarian. One year later, she assumed the position of public information officer and has been a part of the senior management team since that time. As her position transitioned to community relations director, she embraced new

The third annual Agility Charity Challenge will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Bella Vista Training Center, 730 Mount Airy Road, Lewisberry. The event will feature all-breed agility trials with the special team competition. The event began on Aug. 6. In three levels of agility competitions, dogs will race the clock as they maneuver through an obstacle course with hurdles, weave poles, tunnels and more. Dogs that are not entered in competitions are not permitted on show grounds. Proceeds from the three-day event will benefit three dog-related charities. The AKC Canine Health Foundation funds research to prevent, treat and cure canine disease to help fellow canine companions. The foundation’s efforts include epilepsy and cancer research grants. The Dog TAGS organization helps veterans who have service-related PTSD or a traumatic brain injury; with assistance, the veterans train their own dogs to be their certified service dogs. The American Bullmastiff Association (ABA) Health and Research Fund collaborates with the Breeder’s Education Committee to conduct research to advance the health and well-being of the Bullmastiff breed. Admission is free. The event is jointly sponsored by the Bella Vista Training Center, the Dauphin Dog Training Club, the Keeshond Club of Delaware Valley, and the American Bullmastiff Association. NATIONAL

12 - COMMUNITYCOURIER - Middletown Edition - August 7, 2019

CVS Expands Medication Disposal Program Tour To Feature CVS Pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Health, has announced the expansion of its safe medication disposal program in Pennsylvania, adding disposal units in 80 CVS Pharmacy stores in communities across the state by the end of the year. This is in addition to the existing 26 units already installed, bringing the in state total to 106. Promptly disposing unused medications can help reduce the potential that they will be diverted or misused. Nationwide, the company has installed more than 1,300 in-store safe medication disposal units. The company has also donated more than 970 units to community

organizations such as police departments, including 135 units in Pennsylvania. Through this national effort, 408 metric tons, or around 900,000 pounds, of unwanted medication has been collected, including over 41,000 pounds in Pennsylvania alone. CVS Pharmacy plans to roll out additional safe medication disposal units across the country by the end of 2019 as part of a commitment announced at the end of last year to help provide more disposal options in communities. The company is also partnering with Google Maps to make it easier for consumers to find year-round medication disposal options.

CVS Health’s commitment to helping prevent and address prescription drug misuse extends to community education and increasing access to the opioid overdose-reversal drug naloxone. The company’s Pharmacists Teach program brings CVS pharmacists to schools across the country to talk to students and parents about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. More than 507,000 students across the country, including over 30,700 in Pennsylvania, have participated in the program. General information about CVS Pharmacy is available at www.cvshealth.com.

Museum Forms Partnership With Catering Business The AACA Museum has announced a new alliance with C & J Catering and Events. Effective immediately, C & J Catering and Events will be the official catering and events partner of the AACA Museum Inc. C & J Catering and Events will service all currently booked events at the museum, along with selling and servicing all new events moving forward. C & J Catering and Events has worked with the AACA Museum Inc. for many years. The company also manages the complete event function for several other educational

and for-profit organizations in central Pennsylvania. Museum representatives noted that C & J Catering and Events is a long-standing firm that can handle all aspects of events, not just the catering function, and the business’s employees know the AACA Museum’s facility well. C & J Catering and Events will help the museum to grow its wedding, meeting, and social event business. Currently, Jamie Berger, CEO of C & J Catering and Events, and her team are working closely with all existing event customers

to ensure a smooth transition. “We are excited to partner with the AACA Museum Inc. in producing one-of-a-kind events at this fabulous facility,” stated Berger. As there are multiple meeting rooms and event spaces within the museum building, the museum can accomodate large and small events. For assistance in booking an event, readers may call 717-566-7100 or email Sales AndEvents@AACAMuseum.org for personal assistance.

This season’s Best Kept Secrets Tour of locations in Lebanon and Dauphin counties will run from Thursday, Sept. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 5. The tour will feature 32 hand-picked, diverse businesses located throughout Lebanon and Dauphin counties. The tour will include unusual home, garden, and gift stores housed in unique buildings and surprising places, as well as garden centers, an art center, specialty and gourmet food shops with samples for tasting, cafes and diners, a farmers market and corn maze, and much more. To prepare for the tour, Melissa Nordhoff, creator of the Best Kept Secrets Tour, explored the small towns and back roads of Lebanon and Dauphin counties to find the featured businesses, and she also met with the owners to ensure tour participants will have a welcoming, pleasant experience. To further the Best Kept Secrets Tour’s goal of supporting the community, a portion of the ticket price for each ticket purchased will be donated to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
