Lisburn Community Fire Company, 1800 Main St., Lisburn, will host its 65th annual Olde Time Festival from Wednesday to Saturday, Aug. 8 to 11. The event is open to the public. The festival will take place on Aug. 8 from 5 to 10 p.m.; on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 10 p.m.; and Friday, Aug. 10, and Saturday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 8 will be Ride Night. Garden Club Awards Scholarships The Penn-Cumberland Garden Club (PCGC) recently awarded four scholarships. The Esther Kolze Scholarship Award of $1,000 for high school seniors was presented for the 2018-19 school year to Haley Rumbel. She lives in Camp Hill and attended Cedar Cliff High School. Rumbel plans to attend Penn State University’s Main Campus in the fall. The PCGC Esther Kolze Scholarship Award of $1,000 for current college students was awarded for the 2018-19 year to Ian Hess. His hometown is Sanford, Fla., and this fall he will be a sophomore at Wilson College in Chambersburg. This year, PCGC presented two additional scholarships of $500 each for the 2018-19 school year. The scholarships were awarded to two high school seniors, Angelica Reppert-Brill and Courtney Fleisher. Reppert-Brill lives in See Scholarships pg 4

Master Watershed Stewards Plan Workshop Penn State Master Watershed Stewards will hold a Rain Barrel Workshop at the York County Annex Building, 112 Pleasant Acres Road, York, on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. After a short program about stormwater and rain barrels, participants will make rain barrels to install at home. All materials will be provided. The barrels are recycled food-grade barrels. Participants may choose to paint their rain barrels after the workshop. Painting is not included in the workshop. After installing the rain barrels, participants may help save water by using the collected water to water plants and gardens. There is a fee per rain barrel. The Cultural Alliance of York County has provided a grant for the senior center to host its fourth art residency. More Acrylic Painting classes will resume in October and will be offered for one year. Classes will take place on Mondays from noon to 1:30 p.m. Preregistration is required. A trip to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The fee includes bus transportation, the driver’s tip, a smorgasbord lunch, a step-on guide and the guide’s tip. The group will depart at 6:45 a.m. from Eagle Fire Company in Mount Wolf and return at approximately 8 p.m. The Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities will offer a Fraud Bingo program on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 12:15 p.m. The interactive presentation will teach consumers how to protect themselves from investment fraud. Attendees should bring nominal-cost prizes. On Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings, the senior center will offer the card games 500 and pinochle. The York County History Center will hold its 18th annual Book Blast from Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 9 to 11, at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. TFEC Announces 43 Grant Awards The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) announced that 43 grant awards totaling $113,404 were made to area nonprofits through five competitive grant opportunities submitted to TFEC. All awarded projects will take place during the July 2018 to June 2019 calendar years, and all grant recipients are registered nonprofit organizations or have a fiscal sponsor. The Camp Hill Area Community Foundation, a regional foundation of TFEC, support projects that have the potential for the greatest impact on the quality of life and positive outcomes for individuals and families living in the Camp Hill area. Four organizations were awarded a total of $4,000 for their programs, including $1,000 each to Harrisburg Area YMCA West Shore Branch, Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, The Arc of Dauphin County, and Edge Church. The mission of the Children’s Home Foundation Fund, a fund of TFEC, is to provide aid to economically disadvantaged children in Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry counties. Seven grantees were awarded a total of $30,902 for their programs. Grants include $4,102 to Covenant Community Corporation, $5,000 to Harrisburg Area YMCA, $5,000 to Harrisburg Symphony Association, and $5,000 to Joshua Group, $5,000 to Nativity School of Harrisburg, $2,800 to Shippensburg University Foundation, and $4,000 to St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. The Family and Children Services of Lebanon County Fund, a fund of TFEC, supports nonprofit social service agencies that serve families and children in Lebanon County. A total of $15,215 was distributed to nine organizations for their programs. Grants include $1,325 to Big Brothers-Big Sisters of The Capital Region, $2,500 to Capital Area Girls on the Run, $2,990 to Lebanon Family Health Services, $200 to Lebanon Valley Council on The Arts, $1,200 to The Power Packs Project, $1,500 to Retired Senior Volunteer Program of The Capital Region, $2,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA, $1,500 to Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center of Lebanon and Schuylkill Counties, and $2,000 to Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania for Operation Backpack 2018. The Kids Trust Fund, a fund of TFEC created by and in memory of Gary L. Houck Jr., provides support and services to young children who are living with physical or emotional abuse or neglect. During a recent Wii Bowling competition among the residents of Letort Manor at Church of God Home in Carlisle, organizer Helen Milliron and a group of like-minded neighbors raised $6,643 for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BB/BS) of the Capital Region. The funds brought the group’s two-year total to nearly $14,000. Approximately one dozen bowlers participated each year. This year’s competition kicked off in late May at Church of God Home, a StoneRidge Retirement Living Community. Through BB/BS of the Capital Region, mentors provide youths with support and encouragement. Mentors offer advice, help with homework, and take mentees on excursions, such as trips to the movie theater.
