The annual Court of Valor (COV) and Safekeepers Shrine (SKS) Ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the veterans section of Prospect Hill Cemetery, which is accessible from the cemetery’s Pennsylvania Avenue entrance. The 2018 COV/SKS exhibit will feature a fully-functional, Vietnam-era Huey. The Huey had two main uses in Vietnam: as a gun ship, outfitted with two Gatling guns and two 50caliber side-mounted machine guns, and as a medical transport, known as a dust-off. The 42-foot-long Huey, with blades spanning 48 feet, will fly into the cemetery and will be on display at the conclusion of the ceremony. COV/SKS guests are
encouraged to interact with the historic aircraft as it makes its first appearance. A static display helicopter, normally used for air ambulance services, will also be on display. The helicopter will take off during the ceremony to honor local first responders. The COV memorial honors York County veterans who have distinguished themselves through valor and sacrifice during their service. This year, 17 additional honorees’ names will be added to the COV, bringing the total number of incised names to 390. This year’s honorees include Spc. 5 Joseph C. Bates, Army; Sgt. Ronald M. Boyd, Army; Cpl. Charles H. Eck, Marine Corps; Sgt. Frederick C. Eyster, Army; 1st Sgt. Harry R.
