New Location, Same Mission Freedom Thrift On 30 Schedules Grand Opening BY ANN MEAD ASH

elly Lynch, general manager of Freedom Thrift, a subsidiary of Revelations of Freedom Ministries (ROFM) in Blue Ball, and Yvette Lee, visual merchandiser, are looking forward to the grand opening of Freedom Thrift on 30, 2853 Lincoln Highway East, Ronks, on Saturday, March 12. A ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m., followed by light refreshments and door prizes until 2 p.m. Shopping will continue until 6 p.m. Both Lynch and Lee are mindful of the clientele at the new store, which is located in a tourist area. “We are catering to the taste of those customers,” noted Lynch of the boutique-style store. “Our mission is the same,” Lee pointed out. “We realize it’s a ministry that affects all families, but in different ways,” she said. ROFM is a faith-based, Christ-centered

discipleship program for men who struggle with addictions. “ We hope that (mission) will resonate with our tourist customers as it does with our local customers,” she said. Lynch agreed, noting that the second location will allow the organization to raise more funds for the work of the ministry. Lynch, who will manage both stores, joined Freedom Thrift in December 2021. Lee was instrumental in the opening of the flagship store in 2019. The new store will include clothing for men, women, and children, along with accessories for women and toys for children. Lynch is especially excited about the men’s clothing area, which Lee has been working to coordinate. “(Lee) has a vision for the men’s area that is rustic and includes historic pieces, sports memorabilia, and a helicopter model,” she noted, adding that a projector showing vintage movies may be included.

When Dot Hartman, director of operations, community initiatives, for Landis Communities, first heard of Friends LifeCare a few years ago, one facet of the insurance - which is designed for those who want to stay at home as they age - attracted her and her husband. “A big part of it is that you get a care coordinator to walk with you,” said Hartman. Dayspring headmaster Dan Stone said that organizers have been hoping to have Kirk participate in Remember America. “As I was praying through our short list (of speakers) … I felt education is prominent in people’s thinking right now,” said Stone. “It’s a great time to highlight how education is such an important part of what our country is going through.” Stone noted that it seemed natural to choose Kirk to speak on the importance of education in restoring the country to biblical values. The theme of this year’s event is “Faith. Courage. Liberty.” “It starts with faith (because) in today’s world, Christians are being put in a position where they will choose to be courageous or not,” said Stone. We are calling people to choose courage, and liberty will be the result.” Becker agreed, noting that the theme reflects the study

She also noted that the faith of the founders was applied to the building of the nation. “When you look at some of our founders and what they have written, you understand these were men of faith who were willing to stand and sacrifice,” she said. “Their faith inspired their courage, and what they endured established liberty like nothing else the world had ever seen.” Three types of tickets are available for the event. Landis at Home has recently partnered with Friends LifeCare, based in the Valley Forge area. “(Friends LifeCare) was started because people wanted coverage for long-term care needs,” explained Hartman. “It’s meant to keep people who want to stay in their homes without having to go to skilled nursing.” More information about the organization will be available to those who attend an in-person seminar in the Calvin G. & Janet C. High Learning and Wellness Center at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, on Thursday, March 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Hartman explained that a Friends LifeCare care coordinator is available to those who take part in the insurance program from the moment they sign up. “The care coordinator will meet with you,” she said. “You can do wellness planning. (Participants can have) as much or as little support as they want.” Hartman went on to explain that if a hospitalization occurs, the care coordinator can help the insured work through the next steps, such as setting up therapy and home care. She noted that Lancaster County has an established care coordinator.

Trussell is an assistant professor of anthropology, the director of the Millersville University archaeology program, and a co-director of the MU Atlantic World Center. He conducted field schools for MU students in 2020 and 2021. One objective was to find evidence of the original 1711 log home the Herr family built for shelter before the existing stone house was completed in 1719. Attendees of the presentation will learn about artifacts the students uncovered, including pottery, glassware, and indigenous projectile points, as well as what these artifacts add to people’s understanding of history. Trussell’s archaeological dig is among the various research programs at the museum that seek to improve the interpretation of the property and the people who lived on the historic site. Using archaeology as a research tool has been a tradition on the property since the museum’s inception. There is a fee to attend. Buckskin Matmen Take Second at Sectionals

BY ERIC PYLES

The wrestling team took another step in their postseason journey and oh what a step it was. The Buckskins made the trek to Governor Mifflin High School on February 19th to take part in one of four District 3-3A Sectional Tournaments. The end result was a second-place team finish to Daniel Boone, 167159.5, as well as advancing eight wrestlers to the District 3-3A Championship. Eight total Buckskins may have reached the medal stand but only one managed to make it to the top of his weight class. Mukhammed Karayev was that lone wrestler, and he did his work

in the 285-pound bracket. He started his gold medal march with a bye before ripping off back-to-back-to-back falls with the first two coming in a combined 105 seconds. Karayev needed 2:18 to claim gold, topping Garden Spot’s Mason Musser in the finals. Trent Ruble picked up the first of three silver medals for CV, doing his work in the 113pound bracket. Ruble also received a first-round bye and worked his way into the championship bout with a standard decision over Ephrata’s Noah Tlumach and a major decision over Oley Valley’s Vincent Dick. His run ended with a loss to Wilson’s James Garcia. Luke Morley was up next at 120, taking silver after a

Conestoga Valley’s Jonathan Lopez gets the takedown in his 8-4 win over Tucker Bellanca in a quarterfinal contest in the AAA Sectionals at Governor Mifflin on February 19. finals loss to Gavin Richard (Daniel Boone). Morley earned his title shot with wins over Liam Kernan (Octorara) and Davis Keppley (Conrad Weiser) after enjoying a firstround bye. Keaton Fischer made it three silver medals for Conestoga Valley after falling to Octorara ‘s Michael Trainor in the 145 finals. Fischer also had a first-round bye, starting his day off with a pinfall over Wilson’s Dominic Delgado in the quarterfinals and following it with a 19-0 dismantling of Conrad Weiser’s Branden Manderbach. Abdoul Akala collected one of CV’s two bronze medals, doing so in the 160-pound bracket. Akala’s title run ended with a semifinal loss to Exeter’s Nick Nettleton, but the freshman was able to bounce back with wins over Hunter Focht (Octorara) and Matteo Garcia (Wilson) to secure the bronze. He started his day with a bye and a win over Daniel Boone’s Khyre Inman. Conestoga Valley’s other bronze went to Jonathan Lopez in the 189-pound bracket. Lopez also lost his title shot in the semis, falling to Ephrata’s James Ellis. Lopez rebounded to take out Governor Mifflin’s Jackson Schools and Cocalico’s Turk Baum to collect his bronze. The senior started his tournament in the first round with a pinfall over Wilson’s Gabe Napoli and followed by top-

next, partaking in the Lancaster-Lebanon League Boy’s Championship at 222 Dutch Lanes on the 18th. Ryan Muckle was the lone Buckskin to make it out of the qualifying round, matching Ross’ ninth place thanks to his 1172 (158, 199, 198, 215, 211 and 191). Once in the final Muckle had the

unfortunate pleasure of tangling with eventual champion Zach Wentzel of Elizabethtown, dropping that match-up 221-143. Ethan Tardibuono missed the finals cut with his qualify score of 1037 while Luke Snader (912) and Josiah Casler (879) finished off the pace to bring their season to a close.

ping Muhlenberg’s Tucker Bellanca in the quarterfinals. CV finished with two fourth place finishes, one by Nate Kirchner at 172 and one by Luke Needham at 152. Kirchner started well with a pinfall win over Octorara’s Braeden Wood but was tripped up by Cole Lang (Governor Mifflin) in the quarterfinals. The senior ran off three straight wins to land in the consolation finals where he lost to Garden Spot’s Blake Weaver. Those wins came over Erik McLaughlin (Cedar Crest), Finn Strauss (Exeter) and Sam McCracken (Ephrata). Needham came into the day seeded seventh at 152 and left with a fourth-place medal after falling to Austin Brass of Ephrata in the consolation finals. Needham followed the same path as Kircher, posting a first-round win over Toby Haldeman (Cocalico) before a quarterfinal loss to Daniel Boone’s JT Hogan derailed his title hopes. Wins over Matthew Dipiero (Exeter), Samuel Moyer (Governor Mifflin) and Blaise Eidle (Wilson) setup the showdown with Brass. BOWLING The bowling team continued their postseason run with Jocelyn Ross taking center stage on February 16th for the Lancaster-Lebanon League Girls Championship at Clearview Lanes. Ross bowled well enough in the six qualifying rounds to sneak into the stepladder finals as the ninth seed. Her title run ended before getting started with a 190-139 loss to McCaskey’s Julee Getz in the opening round of the finals. Ross posted a qualifying score of 1042 thanks to games of 203, 185, 152, 191, 154 and 157. A quartet of boy’s was up
