Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, 2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, will host Lunch With the Landis Brothers on Saturday, March 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Two historical first-person re-enactors will bring George Diller Landis and Henry K. Landis of Landis Valley to life to share both a casual lunch and conversation. Participants will have opportunities to meet and talk with the two re-enactors, who will play the roles of the two founders of the museum, who also lived in the central house on the property directly across from the hotel. The re-enactors will share history as it was observed by the Landis brothers, as well as stories of the brothers’ personal escapades and adventures. The event will include entertainment, lunch, and a special VIP tour of at least

It might seem odd to talk about summer plans during winter, but children’s ministry music director Katie Wieand wants parents to take into account a new opportunity for youngsters at Grace Community Church of Willow Street (GCCWS), 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street. The church will offer a summer musical theater camp on Monday through Friday, June 22 to 26, for children of all abilities who will enter first through eighth grades in the fall. The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon every day, with a 6:30 p.m. performance on June 26. Sunday, May 24, has been set as the deadline to register to attend the camp, and an early bird special on the cost will be available through Wednesday, April 1. Children’s ministry director Patty Deiter said the church is exploring the possibility of offering scholarships. Campers will receive scripts and other rehearsal materials two weeks before the camp begins. While everyone will be in the production, auditions for specific speaking and singing roles will be held on the first day of camp. The group will produce Word Music’s “Under God’s Sea in 3D,” which includes songs like “Diving Deep” and “Open the Eyes of My Heart” and opportunities to learn about marine life and God’s character. Producing “Under God’s Sea in 3D” will also serve as a vehicle to share the Gospel with youngsters and help them develop their creative arts skills. The musical camp is the first offering of Outpour Kids, a division of GCCWS music ministry Outpour Worship. “We want to bring more kids in the community to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and one way to do that is through music,” Wieand commented. “We also want to teach kids excellence, to correctly use their (voice) so they can transfer into other things with confidence.” Outpour Kids will also offer a community worship choir for children in first through sixth grades that will meet in eight-week sessions in the fall and in spring 2021. A second musical theater camp for firstthrough eighth-graders is planned for June 2021. Wieand said she hopes that area churches will refer students to the GCCWS programs to support what is happening in their own congregations. “The goal is to grow the Kingdom (of God), not our church. We want to be a resource for other churches,” Wieand explained. Wieand expressed a desire to develop

and Rachel Potter as Snoopy, and Miles Brouillette as Schroeder. According to Felty, this particular show will be produced with rehearsals having been held only on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays. Martin noted that while all the shows staged at LBC are part of the educational process, as part of a class, this show has a deliberate focus on learning, so character development is a concentration of the effort. “We are hoping the students bring their own life to the character,” said Felty. “They don’t have to be the Charlie Brown or Lucy of the cartoon, and both casts don’t have to be like each other. (Each student) can find their own interpretation of the character.” The show will utilize costumes that suggest the characters and personify Snoopy the beagle, who will have dialogue and sing and tap dance. Felty, a professed “Peanuts” fan, said he loves the show because it is simply fun. “It’s totally designed for children to enjoy … (and it) is based on the actual cartoon. Even the songs come out of (the comic strip).” Martin agreed with Felty. “It’s super fun,” she said, adding, “My dad is really looking forward to this show.” Tickets to the show may be purchased at www.lbc.edu/events. a curriculum that can be shared with ministry partners around the world. Currently, the plan is to guide participants in singing in unison and simple parts; learning singing basics such as proper breathing, posture, diction, healthy vocal production, music reading skills, and musicianship; practicing choral disciplines such as following instructions and choir etiquette; and understanding worship to God and ways to serve Him. Wieand is a Lancaster County native and has an extensive vocal performance background. She directed her first children’s choir while earning her bachelor’s degree at Belmont University, and she acted in musical theater productions while studying for her master’s degree in opera performance from Boston Conservatory of Music. Wieand has performed in operatic productions throughout the United States, including the Fulton Theatre. She was invited to a three-month opera residency in Spain, but she instead chose to marry her husband, Matt, and open a vocal studio in the Lampeter-Strasburg School District. The couple has three children and has hosted an exchange student for four years. “I love how music can help a child memorize anything,” Wieand said. “If we can help children write God’s Word on their hearts, the possibilities are endless.” Only GCCWS members will serve as staff members for the first musical camp, and each adult will mentor a group of eight campers. Community members with an interest in vocal performance and a faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior may apply to volunteer with the eightweek sessions. To apply as a volunteer or to register children for the camp, readers may visit https://gccws.net/outpour-kids. Individuals with questions about financial aid or anything else not covered on the website may call the church at 717-464-5333. Pictured on front: Grace Community Church of Willow Street children’s ministry director Patty Deiter (left) and children’s ministry music director Katie Wieand announce the creation of Outpour Kids, a program to help youngsters develop music skills and their faith. “Under God’s Sea in 3D,” a marine life-themed musical, will be produced during a weeklong camp in June.

Scout House and Strasburg Playground associations. The Lions Club annually funds three scholarships for graduating Lampeter-Strasburg High School students, delivers poinsettias to individuals who are unable to leave their homes, and meets other needs as they arise. Additionally, the Lions support the Strasburg-Heisler Library by funding new purchases for its large-print and easy reader collections. “We get a lot of patrons who use our large-print collection,” Fernitz said. “They come here because I keep the selection current - I clear it out regularly. We just got in 15 new large-print books today.” Fernitz reported that 37% of the library’s budget comes from what state regulations term “local financial efforts.” Gifts from organizations like the Lions club are part of those efforts. “The library depends on community support, and we appreciate this partnership with the Lions Club,” Fernitz said. Tickets for the breakfast may be purchased at the library; Speckled Hen, 141 E. Main St., Strasburg; and Main Street Antiques, 2 W. Main St., Strasburg. Tickets will also be available at the door, but Fernitz noted that the Lions appreciate when tickets are bought ahead of time. “It helps us know how many people to expect,” she explained.

The Strasburg Senior Citizens will hold their March meeting on Wednesday, March 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Strasburg Fire Hall, 203 W. Franklin St. The meeting will feature musical entertainment by country vocalist Rhonda Lee. Strasburg Senior Citizens, now in its 54th year, welcomes new members from not only Strasburg but also a wide area of Lancaster city and Lancaster County. The club offers fellowship, musical entertainment, an annual picnic, a Christmas banquet, bus tours, bingo, refreshments, and more. Visitors are always welcome. Books starring Clifford and his human friend, Emily Elizabeth, will be available free of charge as supplies last; each child may pick one of six titles. Additionally, children may take home coloring pages. Completed pages may be brought to the library, 143 Precision Ave., Strasburg, to receive a prize. Although this will be Clifford’s third breakfast with the Lions Club, the group had held breakfasts for quite a few years. Clifford was introduced to revitalize the event. “He’s fun, encouraging, gentle, (and) cuddly. He’s good at giving hugs and high fives. Everybody loves him,” Fernitz remarked, adding that including a children’s literary character has proven to be a good move. “We’ve been impressed by the turnout. People like to take their children to events.” Separate prices have been set for admission for adults and for children up to age 12. Fernitz related that the proceeds will be used by the Strasburg Lions Club to support community projects. The group contributes to the Strasburg Willow Street Baseball/Softball Association, Girl Scout troops, Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, local food banks, Strasburg tree planting efforts, the VisionCorps Christmas banquet, and the Strasburg

They will also take a tour of Thaddeus Stevens to learn about the programs offered there. Online registration for camp opened at the previously mentioned website on Feb. 18. Karli Raasch and Sarah Marston combined to bring home three medals for CV at the District III Championship meet held on February 2829 at Cumberland Valley High School. Raasch raced her way to two podium wins, cruising to a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.83, as well as an eighth-place

medal in the 100 back event the following day, with her time of 58.14. Raasch’s time in the IM will advance her to State competition, and her 100 back performance signifies a new team record. Marston grabbed her medal in an eighth-place performance on the first day of the meet, completing the 200 free in 1:56.89, a personal best time, as well as a new CV

record. Marston also qualified to compete in the 100 free, where she placed 15th with a time of 53.69. Jordan Holmes was the third CV girl to represent the Buckskins at the event, having qualified for the 100 back. Holmes’ time of 1:03.23 was good enough for 26th. For the boys, it was Micah Leaman representing the squad, earning admittance to two events, the 200 IM

and the 500 free. In his 200 IM performance, Leaman shaved a full two seconds of his seed time to produce a final of 2:04.09 to finish in 16th. On Saturday, Leaman placed 19th in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.45. “Every CV swimmer at Districts did amazing, credited head coach Barb Raasch. “Each was dealing with health problems and they still went out and swam great times. They were deter-

mined to compete with everyone else. BOWLING Three CV bowlers represented the Buckskins at the Eastern PA Regional Championships on February 28th; with Robbie Jack ranking 24th in the qualifying round. Jack knocked down a total of 1032 pins in his five-game effort, missing the cut to advance to the bracket final round, which only

advanced the top 12 of 185 bowlers in the boys’ singles tournament held at Leisure Lanes in Lancaster. For the girls, it was Annabel Whitton and Haley Jack representing Conestoga Valley at Dutch Lanes in Ephrata. H. Jack put together a 773 series to rank at 84th out of 135, and Annabel Whitton was close behind with a 735 effort that was good for 93rd.
