Dave Wauls, past LPAF president had created a trivia quiz about the amphitheater for attendees to complete. Using true and false questions, he queried guests about the entertainers who have performed there - no Ricky Martin, but Arlo Guthrie and his daughter made an appearance. Wauls also entertained with ice breakers that involved sharing memories of concerts. Tom Ellis, interim president of LPAF, spoke about the history of the amphitheater, starting in 1957. “The iconic structure was a vision getting ready to be fulfilled,” he said of the amphitheater, pointing out that Armstrong created the roof of the structure, which only needed its first repairs this year. He noted that the Sertoma Club put together a leadership team in 1959 and then built and commissioned the amphitheater before turning it over to the city. In 1962, the iconic building opened for its first summer with the New Holland Band on the roster, along with a number of individuals and celebrity acts” Ellis pointed out that the park hosts up to 6,000 guests at most concerts with 30,000 attendees at
concerts that feature fireworks. Smithgall’s cannons were part of those presentations for 35 years. Ellis added that Pat Boone, Emmett Kelly Jr., and Red Skelton have all performed at the park. In 1979, the Arts and Crafts Festival, as it was called then, became a fundraiser. “It remains the single biggest contributor and one of the top art festivals on the Eastern Seaboard,” said Ellis. Father and son team Richard and Rick Faulkner kicked off that first festival. Rick was present at the rededication and received a round of applause from the group. Last year, 200 volunteers participated in organizing and running the art festival, but the organization can always use more helpers. Ellis pointed out that board members are volunteers. “All of this is a community service,” he said. “We are grateful for the entire board.” LPAF board member Janice Henry spoke about upcoming events and fundraisers the organization has planned, and Kirchner closed the event. Full Circle Recycling is celebrating its 20th anniversary in June. The business has three locations: 965 Lancaster Pike, Quarryville; 702 S. Prince St., Lancaster, with the entrance on Seymour Street; and 1430 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster. Brian Grimm has been involved in the recycling business since he was a child. His father, Ray, started G & R Auto Salvage with a partner in the 1970s. Growing up, Brian worked there on weekends and during summers. In the 1980s, he managed his own yard, Agreeable Auto Salvage in Mount Joy. Eventually, Brian sold his salvage yard and the Grimms - including Brian’s wife, Dottie, and their sons, Zachary and Isaac - raised broiler chickens and beef cattle on farms in Willow Street and outside of Delta in southern York County. When Ray retired from his business, Brian and Dottie bought Ray’s salvage yard, located at the top of the Buck hill outside of Quarryville.

The annual Lancaster County Benefit Auction will return to Leola.
According to Kelly Cullen, communications manager at the Clinic for Special Children, a large majority of the clinic’s patients come from the Amish or Mennonite communities, and over the past 33 years, the clinic has served over 5,000 patients. As a nonprofit organization, the Clinic for Special Children relies on community fundraisers to make up more than 60% of its annual budget, and one of its main fundraisers is the annual Lancaster County Benefit Auction. The 31st annual Lancaster County Benefit Auction will take place on Saturday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 4

Admission will be free to the public, and a wide variety of items will be up for bids, including handmade quilts, carriages, household furniture, hardware, outdoor furniture, shrubbery, plants, gift baskets, and toys. “There’s a lot to enjoy at the annual auction,” said Cullen. “What I’m most looking forward to is just seeing so many community members come together in support of the Clinic for Special Children’s mission. While perusing the auction items, attendees can also purchase food, such as freshly made doughnuts,
chicken barbecue, whoopie pies, a salad bar, ice cream, and soft pretzels. There will also be a silent auction. “When you’re at the auction and you’re bidding and purchasing food, know that you’re supporting a great cause that’s helping children and adults with complex medical needs and rare genetic disorders access the care that they really need,” stated Cullen.” For details about the clinic’s 2022 benefit auctions throughout the country, visit www.clinicauctions.org or call 717-687-9407. Full Circle Recycling gets its name from the fact that the Grimms went from the original business of selling used parts and recycling automobiles to farming, then back to recycling. To celebrate the business’s 20th anniversary, each of the Full Circle Recycling locations planned customer appreciation events with free food, contests, and prizes. The celebration at the Fruitville Pike branch will be on Friday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is welcome. The Lancaster County Art Association (LCAA), 149 Precision Ave., Strasburg, will celebrate its 85th anniversary by holding an art show featuring 5-by-7-inch original paintings donated for sale by its members. The show, themed “Lancaster County Color,” will open on Sunday, June 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. The exhibit will then be open through July 7 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The paintings, which will be on display in the Kauffman Gallery at the LCAA, will be hung on the walls according to color, creating a large color wheel. “Whatever the predominant color, it will go on that wall,” explained LCAA member Patricia Keller. “We have gotten animals, like horses; flowers; some abstracts; and fruits and vegetables. We have the gamut of things. Our artists did this as a group, so it’s not just one subject matter. Hopefully, this will be a successful fundraising event for us and one to celebrate our 85 years.” The paintings will be matted, but not framed. Buyers are invited to have their paintings framed and then place them on a tabletop or a wall. Keller noted that the smaller paintings are designed to be more affordable to community members. Keller is also an artist and created paintings for the exhibit. “I have done tiny landscapes this size or (painted) one big flower. What is fun about doing it is that it’s a neat exercise. You can sort of expand your ideas,” she shared. “A lot of times I will do one that size before I do a big painting as a study - to get a feel for composition or the colors you want to use.” Founded in 1936, the LCAA supports the visual arts through exhibitions, classes, workshops and special programs. “We are the oldest art association in Lancaster County and have over 200 members,” said Keller. “Until we moved to Strasburg over 20 years ago, the
association was centered on Vine Street in downtown Lancaster. We moved to Strasburg in 1998. We have a variety of classes for adults and also children’s summer camps and activities. It is one of the few places artists of all levels can show their works and also sell them if they wish.” The LCAA building consists of a pottery room, the main gallery and the Steinmetz Gallery, named for

The Celtic Martins will present music and Irish step-dancing at Eicher Arts Center on Sunday, June 12, starting at 4 p.m., capping the Eicher’s annual Ice Cream Sundae Day. Starting at 2 p.m., the Eicher will begin offering hot dogs and ice cream sundaes at no charge at the Eicher House, 409 Cocalico St., in Ephrata Borough’s Grater Park, and Joyful Canvas will provide face painting by Rebekah Violante and balloon animal creations by Deanne Gingrich. At 2:30 p.m., Penn’s Woods Puppet Theater
will present a “Jack and the Beanstalk” puppet show. Weather permitting, the Celtic Martins will perform on the deck of the Eicher House. In the event of extreme weather, the event will be moved inside the Eicher House. The public is urged to bring folding chairs and face masks. The Eicher offers a series of admission-free Sunday afternoon shows for the public, and its annual event featuring ice cream sundaes often attracts the largest crowd of the series.
Donations to the nonprofit Eicher Arts Center Inc. will be accepted. This group was formed approximately four decades ago to help save and find new uses for the historic Eicher House and the smaller Eicher Sisters House nearby. The Sisters House was built approximately 290 years ago.
The musical Martin family developed its talents in Lebanon County and has been performing at Irish, Celtic and Americana festivals for years, including at the Eicher House on more than one occasion. Penn’s Woods Puppet Theater presented “Rumpelstilskin” at Eicher’s Ice Cream Sundae Day in 2021.
