Staying Safe Out There

You walk your dog, walk for exercise, or go for a run, and most of the time you probably do not give much thought to your safety. Being aware of threats that could invade your routine is the first step toward increasing your personal security.

According to Jerry Harper, president of Community Safety & Security Consultants (CCSC) of Lititz, raising your safety level begins with raising your awareness. “The most important thing I tell people is to always be aware of their surroundings,” said Harper, who recommends taking a situational safety class to learn what concerning behaviors look like. “Be aware of vehicles (that are) parked nearby. Is there anyone near them? What are (those people) doing?” Harper encourages people to trust their instincts. “If you feel uneasy, cross the street,” he said. “Walk near a residence or where you see other people so there are other witnesses involved.”

Of course, being aware also means being alert. “Make sure you’re not distracted,” said Harper. “People like to crank up the music, and they wear earbuds, so they don’t hear a vehicle coming up behind them (or) they don’t hear the stones moving on the walkway or highway when someone is running up behind them or from behind a bush,” he explained. “I tell people, ‘Keep one earbud out or keep your volume down so you have some hearing.’”

Jordan Scott Gilbert, director of the Cavod Theatre production of “A Tale of Two Cities,” thinks that staging the musical in the small theater will only enhance the telling. “It’s a big show that we are trying to make intimate in this small space, which is great for storytelling,” said Gilbert, who was the

“It’s really just a fun night for our supporters to gather and celebrate the program in a way that lifts up our girls and makes it possible for more to participate,” said Sarah Yohe, director of community engagement with Girls on The Run (GOTR) of Lancaster and Lebanon, of the Kickin’ Up Kindness event that raises funds for GOTR scholarships.

Staying Safe

Another recommendation from Harper is to always carry pepper spray. “Have it clipped to your waist in case you’re in a situation where you need to defend yourself and create separation (between you and a threat),” said Harper, who recommends learning to use the spray properly. “We teach people to aim starting at the chest and (moving) upward,” said Harper, who noted aiming only for the eyes will not work if the assailant tries to duck.

“Starting out at the chest and zig-zagging upward will maximize the effectiveness due to the vapors of the pepper spray rising upward,” he said.

Some things that can help keep you safer should be done before you even think of leaving your home. Steps such as varying the time that you walk or run and changing up your route on a regular basis are simple ways to decrease your risk.

“Definitely change your routes and your times if necessary,” said Harper.

“(Predators) watch for a pattern so they can plan on that behavior.” Harper recommended altering driving routes for the same reason.

Thanks to technology, there are now phone applications that can alert those closest to you using a key word or PIN. Some apps will alert chosen individuals to your GPS location or record sound or video for an extended amount of time.

“If something would happen, (the app) will start notifying the people who are important to you so they can start sharing that information with authorities,” Harper said.

Harper also advises taking a basic self-defense course. “If you are a victim of an attack, it’s nice to have options to escape a certain kind of hold or grab,” he said. “The basics of certain tactics do work to create separation.”

assistant producer of the show on Broadway. Gilbert chose “A Tale of Two Cities” along with Cavod artistic director Monica DePaul and Connie Dienner, director of Cavod Performing Arts.

“A Tale of Two Cities” will be presented at the Cavod Theatre, 641 W. Main St., New Holland, with a special opening night themed dinner theater at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Cocktail attire is requested for this red carpet event. The show will also be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21; at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 15 and 22; and at 4 p.m. on Sundays, Oct. 16 and 23.

“A Tale of Two Cities” with book, music, and lyrics by Jill Santoriello is based on Charles Dickens’ 1859 novel that tells the tale of a love triangle. The story focuses on the beautiful Lucie Manette, played by Jackie Zliczewski; French aristocrat Charles Darnay, played by Alexander Weaver; and English cynic Sydney Carton, played by Bryant Martin. Walter Winston O’Neill, who took part in the Broadway production, will play Dr. Manette. Alicia Burton will play Miss Pross, and Hannah Rau will portray Madame Defarge. Set during the French Revolution, the story encompasses love and redemption in a way that parallels Cavod’s mission. The show is choreographed by Stephanie Brooks Martin, with musical direction by Amy Rau. Glen Brodersen of Sight & Sound Theatre is handling the set.

Calling the show “vocally challenging,” Gilbert relayed that the cast is doing a “really awesome job.” “There are some cast members who are perfect for their roles,” he noted of the cast of nearly 30. “My point of view with the storyline is God working in people, specifically the lead character (of Sydney Carton) to bring him to a place of faith,” continued Gilbert. “I think it will be very moving and show the audience the

depths people will go to save those that they love.”

Dienner said that the show is a bit different for Cavod because there are dark moments. “It can be hard to find shows with redemptive meaning,” she said, adding, “To show the redemption, you have to show the evil.” Dienner said the show is for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. She compared the show to another classic by Victor Hugo, “Les Miserables.” “It has a lot of the same feel (because) it’s speaking from the heart,” said Dienner.

Tickets, which are discounted for students, may be purchased at www.cavod.org or by emailing info@cafod.org or calling 717-354-3355.

Tennis Team Finishes Second in Section One

The tennis team wrapped up their regular season, adding three more wins to their tally for a 10-4 overall mark, securing second place in Section One with their 6-1 league record.

The first of those wins came on the 21st with CV clipping Elizabethtown 5-2. The Lady Bucks took two of three doubles matches before closing things out with singles wins by Paula ValverdeGomez, Sydney Harris, and Paige Harris. Valverde-Gomez joined Jade Flores for one of those doubles wins while Trixie Obeng and Rachel Tsai nabbed the other.

CV topped McCaskey by a 7-0 final on the 23rd with Flores joining Valverde-Gomez, Harris, and Harris as singles victors. Sydney and Paige

Harris joined the winners in doubles, completing the sweep along with ValverdeGomez and Flores as well as Obeng and Tsai.

Conestoga Valley closed out the regular season on the 26th, slipping by Hempfield 4-3. Flores took part in two of the wins, needing three sets to capture her singles match while enjoying a doubles win thanks to an injury withdraw by Hempfield. Sydney Harris was the beneficiary of that Black Knight injury in singles action while Obeng and Tsai posted the final team point with their doubles win.

FIELD HOCKEY

There are many places where close counts; high school field hockey is not one of those places. That means despite being oh so close, the

Lady Buckskins dropped their previous two games, in overtime, by matching 2-1 finals.

The first of those setbacks came on the 22nd with Warwick coming out on top despite eight Elizabeth Tally saves. Sophia Livingston, with help from Danae Ulrich, matched Warwick’s fourth quarter score but the Lady Warriors were able to add one more in the extra frame for the 2-1 final.

September 26th sent Conestoga Valley to Comet Field to face Penn Manor with the Lady Comets collecting the 21 overtime win. This time it was Ellie Hersey going solo to force overtime with Penn Manor securing the win in the extra frame. Tally finished with four saves.

The golf team made one last trip for the season, hit-

ting the links at Fairview Golf Course in Lebanon on the 26th for the LancasterLebanon League Championship. The Buckskins top four included Carson Hoover (82), Alex Shiner (83) and Mason and Ethan Tardibuono, both posting a 96.

CROSS COUNTRY

The cross-country teams faced Manheim Township and Hempfield on the 27th with both teams going 0-2 on the day. Seana Dougherty was the lone CV runner to crack the top ten in either race, finishing 6th on the girls’ side with a time of 20:58.9. Timothy Gitonga was the top boy’s runner, taking 17th with Joshua Yoder crossing a few seconds later in 18th place.

BOYS’ SOCCER

The end of days it is not, but not enjoying one win over a three-game stretch can certainly feel like it for those involved. Such is the journey for the boys’ soccer team with back-to-back losses following a 1-1 draw opposite Warwick on the 21st. Landen Sunday set up Owen Riggle’s first half score and 10 Jacob Carr saves were enough to keep Warwick from the win, just not enough for CV to collect instead.

Two days later Conestoga Valley welcomed Central Dauphin to Witmer with the Rams posting a 2-0 victory. Carr’s nine saves were not enough to stave off the Ram attack.

Hempfield was the next vis-

itor to Witmer, collecting a 10 win on the 27th. The loss dropped CV to 5-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play. Carr tallied six more saves.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Losing streaks are never fun and the longer they last the less fun they become. Take the girls’ soccer team and their current streak of six straight losses that has the Lady Buckskins 4-7 overall and 1-5 in L-L play.

Conestoga Valley was able to hang close to Warwick on the 21st but the Lady Warriors used two second half scores to pull away for a 3-1 win. Leah Buch broke up the Warwick shutout bid with her unassisted score in the 74th minute while Gabbi Moore and her 11 saves kept the final score manageable.

Things did not play out as kind to the Lady Bucks on the 24th with a trip to Ephrata

resulting in a 5-0 loss. Moore finished with 10 saves.

Another shutout came on the 27th with Hempfield dishing out the damage. The Lady Knights took a 1-0 first half lead and turned it into the 3-0 final despite Moore’s 10 saves.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

The girls’ volleyball team kept themselves near the top of the Section One standings with wins over Manheim Township and Cedar Crest pushing their league mark to 5-1. CV was able to sweep Crest on the 27th but needed four games to get by Township on the 22nd.

“It was good to see the team be able to make some in match adjustments on the defensive side of the ball,” said head coach Devin Moore of the 3-1 win over Township. “We were able to get a good team win with involvement from the entire group.”

That involvement led to 29 assists from Summer Getz and 14 kills by Rebecca Hartranft. Emily Kornacki added 19 digs while Madison Williams chipped in with four blocks and three aces.

The Buckskins were able to post a 3-0 win over Cedar Crest, but they had to work for the 25-21, 25-21 and 2520 wins. Getz (24 assists), Hartranft (10 kills) and Karen Kornacki (five aces) led the offense while Emily Kornacki (11 digs) and Camdyn Mahler (1.5 blocks) fronted the defense.

Since 1940, National Newspaper Week has been observed the first full week in October, so I thought it appropriate to share my thoughts on why supporting your local newspaper is more important than ever.

It’s a popular notion that the internet has marked the downfall of community newspapers. And, while many have stopped publishing due to tough economic times, the rising cost of newsprint, and other factors, your community newspapers can do something the internet can’t: We promote connections at a local level. Some say that because people can tweet, blog, surf, shop, and search online, no one reads newspapers anymore, but you just proved that to be a myth. Rather than being replaced by all the noise of “instant” media, your free local

paper has become more important than ever. We are a part of your neighborhood. We shine a spotlight on people and organizations that make your town a better place to live, work, and play. No, they probably won’t get a million views on TikTok, but they are heroes who live down the street and are making a positive difference in our community.

In the past year the publisher of this newspaper, Engle Printing & Publishing

Co., Inc. (EPC) has featured more than 1,500 front-page articles benefiting more than 1,000 local nonprofit organizations in Lancaster, Chester, Berks, York, and Dauphin counties. Those numbers don’t take into account the thousands of press releases that make their way into our papers each year.

With all the talk about social media, why do we continue to publish free community newspapers? It’s who we are and who we’ve been for nearly 70 years. We live here, too, and we want to keep our communities thriving as much as you do.

If you know of an organization or individual making a positive impact on your community, contact us at news@engleonline.com or visit https://townlively.com /event-submission to submit an event.

FOOTBALL

In the game of football there are two ways to get “run over.” One is the literal way of running over an opponent to make a play. Then there is the figurative way which is what happened to CV in their September 23rd battle with Solanco. The Golden Mules ran wild for 358 yards and four scores on their way to a

on ancient biblical prophecies.

Pictures of Wingfield’s trips to the Middle East will be shown 15 minutes before the evening services only.

Wingfield will present a seminar on the book of Revelation on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.

41-21 win, leaving CV with a 2-3 mark on the year.

Conestoga Valley mustered 221 total yards with 176 coming on the ground but it was not enough to slow down the power rushing of Solanco. Nick Tran finished with 77 yards and a score on 15 carries while Ish Camacho added 89 yards and a TD on six carries.

Three sessions will be available:

“Understanding the Book of Revelation,” “The Chronological Sequence of Events in the Book” and “A Walk Through the Book of Revelation.”

On Sunday, Oct. 9, the topics will be “The Jewish Roots of Our Faith” at 9 a.m., “The Purposes for the Birth Pangs of the Tribulation” at 10 a.m. and “The Kingdom: The Need for a New Beginning” at 7 p.m. The conference will conclude with “The Kingdom: The Final Preparations” on Monday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. and “The Kingdom: The Blessings of the Kingdom Age” on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.

Addressing Headlight Glare

Headlight glare becomes dangerous when visibility is impaired to a point where the risk of accidents is heightened. Glare is a growing problem for many modern drivers due to the increased use of light emitting diodes in headlights.

Driving at night is challenging because pedestrians, cars and other obstacles are difficult to see once the sun sets, and headlight glare can cause further problems. A study from the U.S. Department of Transportation found that 88% of drivers noticed LED and HID headlight glare. While LED lights may not actually be brighter, their “cool” color temperature can make them appear so. Studies have found that blue and white light tends to hit people’s eyes harder, especially at night.

In addition, human eyes do not adjust to changes in lighting very quickly, according to Pierre Paul Driving School in New York City. The older a person gets, the longer his or her eyes take to adjust to

changes in lighting. In fact, it can take up to seven seconds to recover from the blinding glare of headlights. That’s enough time to swerve off the road or potentially hit something. While glare can be problematic, drivers can take steps to make nighttime driving safer.

- Clean the windshield. Dirt and grime found on the windshield can refract light and make glare worse. Therefore, clean all windows and mirrors thoroughly, inside and out.Repair scratches and cracks. Glare can be exacerbated by any imperfections in the windshield. Repair cracks or scratches promptly.

- Get a vision and health check. Changes to vision can impact how glare affects certain individuals. Vitamin A deficiency can cause night blindness, also known as nyctalopia. Eye shape changes, including a condition called keratoconus, can affect vision.

Cataracts and diabetes can also impair vision. Visit a primary care physician as well as an eye doctor to check for

conditions that can make night vision worse.

- Change your line of sight. Do not look directly into oncoming headlights. Rather, look slightly down and to the right side of the road so that you are not focusing on the beams.

- Get glare-resistant coatings on eyeglasses. Speak with an optician about eyeglasses with a coating that can reduce the amount of glare. VisionCenters.com says standard plastic lenses reflect around 8% of the light that reaches glasses, while high-index lenses reflect up to 12% of available light. Anti-glare coating allows 99.5% of available light

to reach the eyes, essentially eliminating glare. Those who don’t wear eyeglasses can purchase special anti-glare glasses to wear in high-glare conditions, such as when looking at computer and phone screens.

- Flip your rearview mirror to night mode, if you have this option. This setting will make it appear as though lights coming from behind are dimmer.

- Take breaks. When glare makes driving difficult, take a break to help your eyes recover.

These are some of the steps people may take when glare becomes problematic while driving at night.

Fall ReSort Book Sale Scheduled

The Friends of Lancaster Public Library will hold their annual Fall ReSort Book Sale from Friday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 9, at The Book ReSort Center, 225 N. Marshall St., Lancaster. The book sale will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The sale will offer more than 20,000 books of varied subject matter, including like-new hardcover bestsellers, mass-market paperback, nonfiction, and science fiction, as well as older and collectible items. The books

How To Maintain An Older Vehicle

New cars have been costly for quite some time, but those costs have spiked considerably since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. That unprecedented rise may lead many motorists to wonder how they can get more mileage out of their existing vehicles. According to data from Kelley Blue Book and Cox Automotive, the average cost of a new car in September 2021 was just over $45,000. That marked a $3,000 increase from June 2021 and a $5,000 increase from the end of 2020.

Drivers who may not be able to afford the cost of a new vehicle can take the following steps to keep their existing cars running smoothly for years to come.

- Take care of the timing belt. Engines may get all the

glory, but they cannot run smoothly without a fully functional timing belt, which helps to synchronize movements of various components. Owner’s manuals may note when to replace the timing belt, but they generally must be replaced every 60,000 to 105,000 miles. Although replacement is required infrequently, drivers can ask their mechanics to keep an eye on their timing belts. During the early months of the pandemic, many people learned that infrequent driving can cause a timing belt to fail before it reaches the projected mile marker. Aging drivers should keep this fact in mind if they do not drive as much as they used to.

- Take care of the brakes and associated components.

The experts at Popular Mechanics urge drivers of older vehicles to replace their brake fluid every two years.

Popular Mechanics also advises drivers whose cars are more than seven years old to replace the rubber brake lines when major brake work is required.

- Pay attention to oil levels. The older engines get, the more oil they burn. For this reason, owners of older vehicles should check their oil levels more often than they would if their vehicles were brand new. These checks also provide a way to discover leaks before they lead to potentially significant issues.

- Don’t skip maintenance appointments. Even if you’re still driving less due to the pandemic, it’s best to keep up with maintenance on any car, especially if the car is older. Routine tune-ups and oil changes, which may need to become more frequent the older the vehicle gets, can keep cars running smoothly and protect the engine over the long haul. The rising cost of new cars may compel people to keep their cars longer than they might have anticipated. A few simple maintenance measures may help to prolong the life of a vehicle.

are priced to sell. Some items are individually priced. Vinyl records, DVDs, and audiobooks will also be available for purchase, as well as hundreds of music CDs.

All proceeds from the sale will directly benefit the library. On-site free parking will be available, and cash, checks, and all major credit cards will be accepted.

Additionally, the Friends have two bookstores that are open year-round: the Marshall Street Bookstore located at the above address and the Juliana Bookstore located on the first floor of the Lancaster city location. Discover Our Heritage

According to Wanda Swarr, founder of Pathways school, Heritage Day began as a way for students to demonstrate what they had learned. The school invited a few re-enactors and demonstrators to join in the encampment. “That (first) year, we had a couple hundred people here, but it has just exploded and it’s so much fun,” recalled Swarr.

This year’s fourth Heritage Day will be held at the school’s Brubaker Homestead campus, 414 Long Lane, East Earl, on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for admission or parking. “We have a lot of demonstrators and interactive events,” noted Swarr.

Swarr pointed out that students and demonstrators will be dressed in Colonial garb or in pre-1840s costumes. Encampments will include a

furtraders encampment and a pre-1840s encampment. A Civil War re-enactors group will also be on-site. “We are trying to interpret history in southeastern Pennsylvania through the years,” explained Swarr, who noted that a Native American interpretive area was student-developed. “They said ‘We know (Native Americans) were here. Why aren’t we interpreting Native American history and not just European settlers?’” reported Swarr.

This year’s event will be held at Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, 2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, on Friday, Oct. 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will be presented by PNC Bank.

The dress code for the event is casual, and Yohe recommended wearing jeans with a splash of pink. Dinner will consist of a buffet featuring a selection of foods from Rocky’s BBQ. A campfire will be located onsite for attendees to enjoy. A live band will play bluegrass music for attendees’ listening and dancing pleasure, and a silent auction will be held. According to Yohe, the silent auction will feature gift certificates from local stores and restaurants, along with experiences, such as trips. “LOA Orthodontics has donated a full orthodontic treatment,” said Yohe, who added that Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster (OAL) has donated their skybox at the Barnstormers’ stadium with a concession gift card.

Christina Santoleri, who has long coached GOTR teams in Lancaster city schools, will speak, and a live appeal with a goal of raising $30,000 for scholarships will be given. More than 50% of girls receive financial assistance to take part in GOTR programs, and the Kickin’ Up Kindness event is a major fundraiser to help meet scholarship needs.

GOTR is a youth development program that encourages confidence, character, care, connection, competence, and contributing to community. One study found that 85% of girls in the program showed gains in those areas, along with increased long-term physical activity and critical life skills.

Kickin’ Up Kindness events were canceled in both 2020 and 2021, so organizers are excited to be live again this year, but tickets are limited, and they must be purchased by Wednesday, Oct. 12. To purchase tickets, readers may visit www.gotrlancaster.org/kickn upkindness.

Servant Stage Plans Season

Servant Stage will present First Look Jr. on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster. The event will celebrate highlights of the 2022 Youth Theatre season and feature the unveiling of 2023 season of Youth Theatre shows, camps, and programs as well as the presentation of a $1,000 arts scholarship for a graduating senior. The performance will feature highlights

from the recent youth productions of “The Lion King Jr.,” “Frozen Jr.,” “Annie Jr.,” “Matilda Jr.,” and “Our Town.” Artistic director Wally Calderon noted that in prior years, both the youth and MainStage programs were announced at the First Look Extravaganza, but they will now be broken out into separate events.

Registration for all of the 2023 youth programs will open immediately after the event, with early registration incentives through Thursday, Dec. 1. Families are encouraged to register early as programs fill up quickly.

In 2016, Servant Stage offered its first summer musical theater camp, “Godspell Jr.,” taking more than two dozen students through an entire production process, from auditioning to a full performance, in one week. The students then took the show “on tour” to local retirement communities to experience Servant Stage’s model of making theater accessible to those unable to go out to see shows.

Six years later, Servant Stage’s Youth Theatre program has experienced the most exponential growth of any area in the organization. In the last year, Servant Stage offered two winter youth productions

and three summer theater camps - all filled to capacity with more than 300 total students involved and over 150 students on waiting lists - as well as a Teen Company, Apprentice, Company, and Junior Company for students who trained weekly with local instructors throughout the summer. Servant Stage continues to offer weekly pay-whatyou-will theater classes every Monday night for youths of all ages, reaching over 350 students in the past year.

First Look Jr. is free and open to the public, and tickets can be reserved at www.servantstage.org or by calling 717-455-0255.

Servant Stage’s full 2023 MainStage season will be announced during the First Look Extravaganza, a live online event on Friday, Nov. 18, in conjunction with the ExtraGive. All performances are offered at pay-what-youwill prices as part of Servant Stage’s mission to make great performances accessible to everyone in the community. For more information, visit the aforementioned website.

Servant Stage is a nonprofit theater that has served Lancaster County since 2011 and brings entertainment to over 50,000 audience members each year.

Service To Bless Animals

St. John’s and St. Thomas Episcopal churches will offer a joint “Blessing of the Animals” service in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the environment and animals, on Friday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. The service will be held outdoors at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Road, Lancaster.

The community is invited to participate in a familyfriendly service of celebration and thanksgiving for pets and for all God’s creatures, including a short ser-

vice and blessing. Lancaster city’s mounted and K-9 units have been invited.

Donations will be accepted for Lancaster County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit.

All pets should be leashed or in a crate or carrier for their comfort. Attendees are welcome to bring a picture of their pet for blessing if they feel that bringing the pet to the event would be too stressful. Toy pets are welcome, too. For more information, visit www.stjohns-lancaster.org or www.stthomaslancaster.org.

Activities for people of all ages are planned, including Colonial games, along with a scheduled tug-of-war and sack races. Swarr pointed out that visitors can try candle dipping, paper making, stirring a big pot of soup, or shooting a traditional longbow on the archery range. “We have tomahawk throwing,” she said. “We had it before it became the ‘in’ thing.”

One interactive competition is a Woods Walk, which is a contest for adults and teens. Groups of four walk through the woods visiting five stations, where each participant earns points to determine how well they could each could survive on the frontier. “Above a certain number of points is a mountain man,” said Swar, who noted other designations include flat-landers and 6 feet under. Last year’s winner of the contest received a lantern handmade by one of the students.

“We have Colonial skills through the early 1900s,” said Swarr, who noted that

wagon and tractor rides and story trails will be part of the event. Story trails will involve pages on posts to read on a walk. Last year, one story trail had a Native American theme, and the other was an environmental walk around the pond. She also hopes to have storytellers and musicians on-site.

Food items that will be available for purchase will include soups, chili, hot dogs, and sub sandwiches, along with baked goods and ice cream made with hitand-miss engines.

In conjunction with Heritage Day, a handmade, flintknapped knife, which was made by a Native American interpreter specifically for Pathways to use as a fundraiser will be auctioned online. Readers may visit www.learningatpathways.or g for more information.

“In the past, visitors have said it feels like a real community,” recalled Swarr. “It’s a very family-friendly (event) because we have activities for all ages.”

Schmitt & Ongaro Renames, Rebrands

To better clarify its company image, Schmitt & Ongaro Marine Products has renamed and rebranded to Schmitt Marine, with product line brands Schmitt Steering Wheels and Ongaro Marine housed within the top-tier umbrella. Tim Schmitt, president, made the announcement.

According to Schmitt, the rebranding simplifies the

company’s image and better defines its product lines. Schmitt Steering Wheels will house the company’s stainless steel and polyurethane marine wheels. The Ongaro Marine brand will contain the wiper systems and horns.

Parallel to the company renaming is the introduction of a new series of logos. The main Schmitt Marine logo

incorporates the “S” and “O” from original company names. The secondary brands provide a distinct relational connection to the primary mark. Subsequent phases of the rebranding process will include a website redesign, updated literature and other marketing and sales collateral.

Schmitt Marine, 1001 Ranck Mill Road, Lancaster,

manufactures a wide range of products for numerous original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide, many of which are completely custom-styled and branded, as well as stock items for retail.
