Thunder On The River Set For June 15 It’s called Thunder on the River, and if you are in downtown Columbia on Saturday, June 15, you will know why. You might want to wear earplugs as more than 500 cars, trucks, and motorcycles will roll into town for the annual car show and rev their engines in unison for a few minutes after the national anthem at noon. “We started this tradition a few years ago, and it’s become a highlight of the show,” said Paul Resch, vice president of the Columbia Lions Club, which organizes the show along with the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce (SVCC). “A lot of people think that’s how the car show got its name since the sound of 500 engines at full throttle sounds a lot like a thunder storm. The truth is, we came up with the name first, and then a few years ago someone had this idea. It was perfect.” The annual Thunder on the River car
and motorcycle show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 15, rain or shine. Vehicles will be lined up along Locust Street between Second and Sixth streets and in the Locust Street Park. Outdoor Farmers Market To Open In Millersville 480 West Market Street, Hallam, PA
Monday - Sunday 6AM-8PM
The grounds of Immerse International in Millersville will be the site of Manor Market, an outdoor farmers market that will be open once a month from June 15 through October. Music on June 15 will be presented by Ian Rawhauser, who occasionally plays with his father’s band, The Sharks. Rawhauser will perform an acoustic set for Manor Market shoppers. Eric and Kim Weit from the band Dillweed will play banjo and upright bass, respectively, on July 13. Manor Market will be open regardless

For more information about the new farmers market, readers may find “Manor Market in Millersville” on Facebook or query the aforementioned email address.
This year’s theme will be “Urban Spirits,” which will take the tour out of the cemetery and into downtown Columbia, exploring the borough’s extensive history of prohibition, innovation, and crime. The Rivertowne Trolley will return for this year’s
event. Auditions are open to individuals age 16 and older. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No prepared lines or prior experience is necessary. Tickets for Columbia’s Haunted

Afterward, Clor will be in the Mustang Corral to autograph free posters and distribute other free Ford merchandise. Another new aspect of this year’s show will be free oval track remote-control racing for both children and adults. “We’ll have up to eight cars at a time racing one another,” Hershey said. Other children’s activities will include face painting and inflatables. Free coffee and doughnuts will be available beginning at 9 a.m., and free candy, snow cones, and ice cream will be offered starting at 12:30 p.m. Additional food will be available to purchase from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including barbecue sandwiches, french fries, burgers, hot dogs, salads, soft pretzels, beverages, and more. According to Hershey, more than 5,000 people attended last year’s Motorsports Show, and it takes a total of 150 to 200 volunteers to run the event. “It’s just exciting with it being the 20th year to know where it came from. Back when it started, it was just a small get-together with some cars and some grills,” Hershey said. “There has been a ton of impact as well, with people plugging into LCBC and other churches after coming to the show, and it’s been really cool to hear those stories over the years.” LCBC Church is a contemporary, seeker-sensitive church and is currently ranked as the 18th largest church in the United States by Outreach Magazine with a weekly attendance of 17,000. In addition to its Manheim campus, LCBC has locations in Harrisburg, downtown Lancaster, York, Ephrata, Harleysville, Bloomsburg, Leesport, Waynesboro, Hanover,
Hazleton, Coal Township, Mechanicsburg, and Lebanon. Service times and additional details are available at http://LCBCchurch.com.

It has been five years since the borough of Millersville last saw a farmers market. That will change, however, on Saturday, June 15, when Manor Market will open on the campus of Immerse International, 321 Manor Ave., Millersville. The outdoor farmers market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. once a month through October and is slated to feature produce, prepared foods, meats and cheeses, crafts, and live music. Immerse provides intensive English language education, housing for international students, and programs for refugees and immigrants to benefit the broader Lancaster community. “An event of this nature is in line with our mission to serve and to be a good neighbor to the borough and surrounding area of Millersville,” said executive director Ed McManness. He
noted that the corner of Manor and Leaman avenues, where Immerse International is located, has been designated as the town center for Millersville. “We came up with the idea (of Manor Market) when discussing the future development of the property and our desire to have a unique activity on the property to benefit the community,” he continued. “The barn and surrounding large mansion are a nice backdrop for an open-air market.” McManness noted that seven vendors are confirmed for June 15, with the hope of having a total of 10. Applications are still being accepted, and several are pending approval. Applications may be obtained by emailing info@immerseus.com. There is a cost to vend. Additional vendors have been confirmed for Saturday, July 13. Some of the vendors will participate in every market day, while others will be there only on select dates.

Due to the storms that took place during the summer of 2018, the commonwealth of Pennsylvania requested and obtained a Small Business Administration (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Declaration. EIDL assistance is available only to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, and most private nonprofit organizations in the designated counties and after the SBA determines they are unable to obtain credit elsewhere. EIDLs provide the necessary working capital to help small businesses survive
until normal operations resume after a disaster. The SBA can provide up to $2 million to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses that could have been met had the disaster not occurred. The loan amount will be based on the actual economic injury and the company’s financial needs, regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage. For businesses in Adams, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties, the eligible event was the flooding that took place on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1,
2018; the deadline to apply is Thursday, July 18. Berks County businesses may also apply due to the flooding that took place on July 21 to 27, 2018, with the application deadline of Tuesday, July 23. Berks and Chester county businesses are also eligible to apply based on the flooding that occurred from Aug. 12 to 15, and the deadline to apply is Wednesday, Sept. 11. Businesses can apply for an SBA disaster

The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the winners of its 2019 Safety Training and Evaluation (STEP) Awards and recognized its 2019 OSHA Partners on May 1. Representatives from several member companies accepted their awards at the ABC Safety Awards Dinner. The anchor of ABC’s Safety Awards program is STEP, which provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company’s safety and loss prevention. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidence rates. Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their
incident rates. Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participant based on this data. Receiving Platinum recognition for the 2019 STEP Awards were Bertolet Construction Corporation, Wernersville; CB Construction Services Inc., Dillsburg; Flyway Excavating Inc., Mount Joy; Mowery, Mechanicsburg; and Wagman Construction Inc., York. Megan Orr, registered dietitian with UPMC Pinnacle, presented a lecture on heart-healthy eating tips as part of a heart disease risk-reduction plan. Attendees also listened to Doriana Musselman of Lancaster talk about life as the caregiver of her 2-year-old son, Emmett Musselman, who was born with a congenital heart defect that required his first of three open heart surgeries when he was 32 hours old.
