Families looking for a fun summer activity for their elementary school-age children need not look any further than Just for Kicks at Marietta Community Chapel, 1125 River Road, Marietta. The free soccer program is open to area children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church on five consecutive Mondays, beginning July 8 and ending Aug. 5. No prior soccer experience is necessary. Organizer Brenda Harnish said that Just for Kicks provides a safe and fun place for community children to play, interact with peers, and get some exercise in a positive environment. The evenings will be informal, Harnish said, with the opportunity to play soccer in a recreational fashion and to participate in other outdoor games, make crafts, hear stories, and enjoy snacks. Numerous adults and older youths will be on hand to interact with the children and to direct the activities. In the case of rain, organizers will adjust activities to being indoors in the church’s multipurpose room. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to register children in advance by calling Marietta Community Chapel at 717-
426-4584 or emailing marietta chapel@gmail.com by Wednesday, July 3. However, children are still welcome to attend even if they have not preregistered. Registration information needed will include each child’s name and age, the grade level the child has just completed, a phone number, and an email address to send a liability form to fill out. The liability waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian prior to the child’s participation. Children should wear closedtoe shoes and comfortable clothes for playing soccer. Harnish said this marks the seventh year that Marietta Community Chapel has offered the Just For Kicks program with the purpose of being a positive influence in the community and providing a place for children to have fun. “It is good for all of us to spend quality time outdoors, getting some exercise and interacting with new and old friends alike,” remarked Harnish.
