The barbecue will benefit the Rotary Club of Eastern York County and will be held in the parking lot of Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church, 404 Hellam St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 2. Dinners will include a half-chicken, a baked potato, applesauce, a roll and butter and a beverage. Chicken will be available a la carte, as well. ars and community will come together when the East Prospect Community Pride Committee presents a Car Show Cruise In on Saturday, July 2. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the East Prospect baseball field at Lemon and West Ridge avenues. There is no entry free or preregistration for the event, said organizer Barry Strayer. “It’s open to anyone to just show up and show their car,” he stated. “Everyone is invited.” All

provided by Karaoke by Miss “T.” Admission is free, but donations will be accepted, with proceeds benefiting upkeep of the ballfield and playground on-site. “If you’re into cars, come out with your kids and have a fun afternoon,” Strayer remarked. “It’s an opportunity to meet up with your neighbors and enjoy our small community.” If the event is well received, Strayer hopes to hold the car show annually. East Prospect Community Pride holds events throughout the year,

including outdoor movie nights, a Memorial Day parade, a town Christmas tree lighting and meals in the East Prospect Community Building. The committee will host fireworks beginning at dusk on July 2. The fireworks will be set off behind the Canadochly Valley Ambulance Club, 45 S. Main St., and will be visible from the baseball field. There is no rain date for the car show. types of vehicles may participate. Strayer, a car enthusiast who owns a Ford truck, a Camaro and a Mustang Roush 427R, proposed the idea for the car show to the committee last year. “I’ve been going to car shows for years,” he said, noting he organized a car show in 2000 in Valley Forge. “I thought it would be fun to do one here. It’s an opportunity to bring a broad group of people together. There’s a wide spectrum of people who are into cars.” Along with cars, the event will feature food trucks and DJ music

From 6:30 to 9 p.m., the Twin Rose Community Band will entertain, and people are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to enjoy the concert. “The band is a mainstay in Wrightsville,” said Phil Lehman, chair of the Fourth of July committee. “They play a variety of songs. It’s an assortment of music that appeals to a wide range of people.” Following the concert, fireworks will begin at 9:30

p.m. People are encouraged to come early as parking will be limited in the area. Proceeds from the chicken barbecue and food stands will benefit projects of the Rotary Club of Eastern York County, Lehman noted, including a scholarship for a graduating senior at Eastern York High School. “We are also sponsoring six students this year who are attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference at Messiah University,” he noted. Lehman said the Fourth of July festivities in Wrightsville are a tradition people look forward to every year. “It’s a nice day to have fun in the community,” he stated. “Come out to catch up with people you maybe haven’t seen for a number of years. It’s a great day.”

Marietta Fireworks Will Feature Live Music BY CATHY MOLITORIS

Celebrating Independence Day with fireworks has been a long-standing tradition in Marietta. Firework displays in the borough can be traced to the 1950s, according to organizers of this year’s festivities. Marietta Fireworks became a nonprofit organization a few years ago, and a team of volunteers has ensured the annual tradition continues. This year’s display will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, in War Memorial Park,

344 E. Walnut St. The event will feature the patriotic sounds of the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, which will perform in concert before the fireworks and during the display. “We are so excited to be able to have live music during the fireworks,” said Gary Schatz, who has been directing the fireworks shows since 2018. “ We’re always looking for ways to bring more enjoyment to the community, and this is something we’ve often talked about.” The band will perform at Community Bible Church, 331 Anderson Ferry Road, Marietta, beginning at 7 p.m. The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast is the premier military band from within the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. The band has played throughout the United States and overseas. The concert will feature a variety of classical music, jazz tunes, popular music, marches, patriotic selections and showtunes arranged for the concert band and small ensembles. In 2010 and again in 2020, 10 members of the band deployed to locations throughout the Mid-

dle East, the first deployment of this type for the band. Band members performed more than 20 concerts in 75 days for troops and civilians, to raise spirits and inspire patriotism. Community Bible Church, which provides a good viewing spot for the fireworks, will also host a variety of familyfriendly activities, entertainment and food trucks beginning at 5 p.m. Sarge the Constable K-9 will perform service demonstrations at 5:30 p.m. and juggler Chris Ivey will entertain at 6 p.m. All of the activities, including the concert, are free. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting

Marietta Fireworks. “The amount of work that goes into each show every year is exhausting and wouldn’t be possible without the countless volunteer hours, donations and encouraging words of support,” Schatz stated, “but hearing the joy of the crowd during the show makes it all worth it and gives our community something to be very proud of.” For more information on Marietta Fireworks, to donate or to watch a livestream of the event, search for “Marietta Fireworks” on Facebook. For more information on the band, search for “Air National Guard Band of the Northeast” on Facebook.

Fireworks will be held in Marietta on Saturday, July 2.

Fulton Foundation Supports Education Program The Fulton Forward Foundation, an independent, nonprofit private foundation funded by Fulton Bank, recently announced a $125,000 commitment to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), a global educational nonprofit focused on bringing the power of entrepreneurship to youths in low-income communities. The funds, which will be provided to the organization over a four-year period, will be used to support NFTE’s

Aspiring Entrepreneurs Program. This initiative provides students from underresourced communities throughout the Mid-Atlantic, which includes the Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Virginia regions, with access to the courses of NFTE’s Entrepreneurship Pathway and several key activities and components of the NFTE student experience. According to NFTE CEO J.D. LaRock, students in the program will learn how to

develop an original business plan for companies that can be launched in their own communities. Fulton’s grant and partnership with NFTE were announced at the MidAtlantic: Philadelphia Metro Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge on June 9 in Philadelphia, where student finalists pitched their businesses to a panel of judges. Fulton Bank president and COO Curtis Myers served as a VIP Finals judge and presenter at the event, which was co-sponsored by Fulton Bank. Also participating were Scott Snyder, a member of the Fulton Financial Corporation board of directors, and Smokey Glover, senior vice-president/retail sales leader at Fulton Bank.

The Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, will have extended visiting hours on Saturdays, July 2, Aug. 13, and Oct. 8. Members of the public may tour the site between 4 and 7 p.m. on those dates. Situated on 28 acres along the Cocalico Creek in northern Lancaster County, the Historic Ephrata Cloister holds architecture, art, music, and more. Guided tours at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. each day will explore the lives of the early community residents with visits to the Sisters’ House and Meetinghouse. In Colonial times, it was common to find guests at the Ephrata Cloister during these early evening hours, as the community was known for offering free lodging and meals to visitors. Tour goers will hear stories

of dedication, betrayal, sacrifice, and human nature played out on the edge of the early frontier. Visitors may stop at the museum store to browse locally handcrafted items, books, and mementos of the Ephrata Cloister and the region. Separate admission fees have been set for adults, for seniors, and for children ages 3 to 11. Ephrata Cloister Associate Members receive free admission. Visitors may bring a picnic dinner and a blanket; picnic tables are also available. Historic Ephrata Cloister, the place where Ephrata began, is a National Historic Landmark administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission with support from the Ephrata Cloister Associates.

Visitors to the Historic Ephrata Cloister will hear stories of Colonial times while touring the Cloister’s buildings.
