MOUNT JOY TOWNSHIP
The growing community of Mount Joy Township is situated around the vibrant boroughs of Elizabethtown and Mount Joy with sweeping landscapes of farmland and wooded hills. Our 28 square mile municipality has the unique distinction of being the only one in Lancaster County served by two separate school districts: Donegal School District and Elizabethtown Area School District. Mount Joy Township was “born” in 1759 when it received its papers from the adjacent and much larger Donegal Township. The area was originally inhabited by the Conoy Indians and settled primarily by Scots-Irish and German immigrants. Many small settlements and thriving villages like Milton Grove were established in the midst of acres of lush farmland, most of which is actively farmed today.
We are pleased to have a wide range of parks and open spaces in our community. Mount Joy Township offers three community parks in addition to several natural properties owned and managed by the Lancaster Conservancy (more info at lancasterconservancy.org). Lancaster County’s Conewago Recreation Trail starts at the Route 230 trailhead and extends all the way into Lebanon County – it may not be the best mode for commuting, but it is one of the more enjoyable walks or bike rides in the area! Be sure to check out the ongoing restoration of the Conewago Creek if you’re on the trail.
The 10-acre Wolgemuth Park (8795 Elizabethtown Road, Elizabethtown) is located next to our Fairview Municipal Complex and features walking paths, baseball and softball fields, two pavilions and a brand new playground area with accessible features for all abilities. Cove Outlook Park (405 Old Market Street, Mount Joy) can be found across from the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center’s Mount Joy Campus. Cove Outlook is a 25-acre park consisting of walking paths, a soccer field, four pavilions, and two playground areas. Our newest park, Old Trolley Line Park (475 Beverly Road, Elizabethtown) offers walking trails, a safe and convenient trailhead to the adjacent Conewago Recreation Trail, playgrounds, and three athletic fields. Enjoy!
WEST DONEGAL TOWNSHIP
Settled in 1719 and incorporated in 1838, West Donegal Township is named after County Donegal in Ireland. The original Township of Donegal was organized by the court of Chester County in 1722 and was one of the two townships which originally comprised Lancaster County at the time of its inception in 1729. The settlers of Donegal Township were primarily farmers of Scotch-Irish descent who were drawn to the area by the rich soils and plentiful streams. On the 24th of June 1838, the original Township was divided in two, becoming what remains today as East Donegal and West Donegal Townships.
The Township is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors. The 2020 US Census estimate indicates that the Township has around 9,000 residents. Situated west and south of Elizabethtown, the Township comprises an area of 15.6 square miles in area. 43% of the Township’s area is zoned agricultural with 67% of that area comprising preserved farms.
The township maintains 50.6 miles of township roads with PA State roads adding an additional 13 miles for a total of 63.6 miles and is part of the Elizabethtown Area School. Ideally situated between Harrisburg, York, Hershey and Lancaster, West Donegal Township provides residents employment and recreation opportunities with additional amenities in the larger cities. A variety of housing types and areas are available for prospective residents. They range from agricultural farmsteads, to single family, duplex and townhomes as well as apartments and condominiums.
Located within the Township is the 1,400-acre campus of Masonic Village. With a population of 2,000 residents, Masonic Village provides retirement living and health care facilities as well as recreation opportunities for the broader community.
The Conewago Industrial Park in the northwest corner of the township is home to a variety of businesses including American Air Filter, Pioneer, Crowe Transportation, Walker Sales, Western Power Sports, LCL Bulk Transport, DAS, Angleboard, Amazon, Grove Collaborative, and the Nordstrom East Coast Fulfillment Center, to name a few. Also located within the Township is Stone Gables Estate, which is the home of the Star Barn in the Star Barn Village and the Ironstone Ranch, which provides event venue spaces for weddings and corporate events.
CONOY TOWNSHIP
Nestled along the eastern shores of the Susquehanna River you will discover Conoy Township which was formed from West Donegal Township in 1843. Prior to incorporation, the area now called Conoy Township was an early settlement of Indian and Fur Traders utilizing what was known as the Conoy Path. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,373.
Conoy Township offers residents and visitors many outdoor recreation opportunities from ballfields and playgrounds to walking and biking paths. Completed in 2022, the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail offers 14 miles of biking, walking, and running through five municipalities. The trail follows the route of the historic Pennsylvania Mainline Canal and uses some of the original towpath that remains along the corridor. Visitors to the trail can take in a spectacular view of the Susquehanna River from the White Cliffs of Conoy which were a result of a limestone quarry that once existed up the hill from the cliffs. Visitors and residents can enjoy other activities throughout the year including the Falmouth Goat Races, the Susquehanna Old Fashioned Field Days, and the Bainbridge Fire Departments Fire & Smoke Festival (all normally held in September).
Take a drive through Conoy Township and you will notice our rich farmland history. Much of the land throughout Conoy Township is zoned agricultural with some areas designated as Preserved Farms and some located in Agricultural Security Areas. By preserving farms, it guarantees the land will be preserved for future farming activities.
At the southern end of the township, Conoy Township is host to the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA). LCSWMA manages the trash and recyclable materials from Lancaster County homes and businesses. Through their Integrated System LCSWMA has saved significant landfill capacity by creating clean, renewable energy.
We invite you to stop by and enjoy all that Conoy Township has to offer its residents and visitors.

Beyond providing an engaging lifestyle and high quality care for older adults, we offer opportunities for people of all ages. Living options on campus include nursing care and personal care suites; retirement living studios, apartments, townhomes and cottages; a children’s home for 40 youth; and a home for eight adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. We also provide short-term rehabilitation, pharmacy, home care, home health and hospice services for individuals throughout the greater Elizabethtown community.
A not-for-profit organization, Masonic Village has the benefit of being tax-exempt. As part of a commitment to our community, we voluntarily signed a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement. Over a 20-year period, Elizabethtown Area School District will receive more than $19 million and Lancaster County, West Donegal Township and Elizabethtown Borough will receive more than $5.9 million to continue to benefit our friends and neighbors.
To encourage and support local youth, we award up to six $2,500 scholarships for Elizabethtown Area High School seniors who have volunteered their time to support our mission. The high school has also used our facilities to host the prom and for swim team practices and other educational programming for free or at cost. To inspire innovative programs which engage students, we have pledged to give $300,000 over 20 years to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation. We host interns across various departments, with our staff spending thousands of hours instructing and overseeing students, so they can gain real world
experience in their chosen fields.
Masonic Village’s Outreach Program and monthly caregiver and bereavement support group meetings provide free education and support to those in need. Through individuals and businesses who contribute to our mission, Masonic Villages was able to provide services worth approximately $48.5 million in 2022 to individuals unable to pay for their care. Including Masonic Villages’ five locations across the state, we serve more than 2,800 people daily.
We invite visitors to stroll through our beautiful gardens, reflect at our Veterans Grove and Eternal Flame monument, traverse more than 12 miles of walking paths, visit the Masonic Village Farm Market for fresh produce and have lunch at the Orchard View Café.

“Before my husband’s move to Juniper Village, I toured six other homes. What set Juniper Village apart was the smiles and eye contact of the staff and residents. We felt it indicated a happy environment. Juniper Village at Mount Joy is a truly pleasant place to live; clean and well-appointed. But most important is the care my husband receives. His needs are anticipated and fulfilled with kindness. His call bell is answered promptly We are very happy with our choice. Thank you to all the staff at Juniper Village at Mount Joy for the excellent care my husband receives.”

but also show a more human side.”
Brendan Fritz, a sophomore who portrays Squidward, noted that his character is a quintessential curmudgeon. “He’s the show’s grump,” he explained, “but he also has his little moments to shine.”
“It’s impossible to walk away from this show without feeling good.”
Brendan said audiences can expect to be treated to a wide variety of musical styles in the show, including classic Broadway tunes, rock, country, gospel and more. The songs are written by well-known musicians, including Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At The Disco, They Might Be Giants and the Plain White T’s. “There are so many fun songs to keep audiences of all ages
been challenging to take on this huge character and put my own spin on it. I wanted to include the cartoon essence of this character
engaged,” said Grayson Marz, a freshman who portrays Sandy Cheeks. “There’s also a lot of good morals and lessons in this show, but they are delivered in a way that’s fun and entertaining. It’s a bright, colorful set with vibrant songs and characters.” Scott Creason, a sophomore who plays Sheldon J. Plankton, agreed, adding, “It’s impossible to walk away from this show without feeling good.” Although the show is fun and light-hearted, it also includes some important messages, Grayson said, noting that her character, a squirrel from Texas who’s into science, represents one of the show’s themes. “She’s not like everybody else in Bikini Bottom, so people will be able to relate to that feeling of being left out or not fitting in,” she remarked, “but they’ll realize they’re just as good as everyone else even if they are different.”

Check out the ELIZABETHTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
Located just off the square in downtown Elizabethtown, PA, Elizabethtown Public Library is a place where our neighbors find resources that help them achieve their goals and make their dreams come true. Our community comes together during special events and programs like Taste of Western Lancaster County, the Holiday Train Display, and the Summer Reading Program, and all the days in between. People can gather around a great cup of coffee from our coffee shop or discover the work of local artists in our Friends of the Library Bookstore. This is just the beginning of what you can do when you visit the Library. We hope to see you soon!
When people think of the Library, they likely first think of books. And this is unsurprising, because the majority of the almost 187,000 items checked out in 2022 were print materials. However, we have many other items including a large collection of movies, tv shows, audio books, and even cake pans and American Girl Dolls to be borrowed.
A visit to the Library can include so much more than checking something out. A popular reason for people to visit is to participate in one of our many programs. Throughout the year we hold Story Time for babies, toddlers, and families as well as a Lego Club, STEM activities, Musik Time, and more! For adults, we have a book group that meets monthly and a knitting and fiber artists group. And don’t forget the Holiday Train Display by the Train Guys. Check out our calendar to learn more about our fun programs.
Another large program for all ages is the Summer Reading Program. Beginning in June and ending in August, we have special programs and events and encourage people of all ages to read. When the time arrives, make sure to pick up a reading log and bring it back to earn a prize!
No matter why you visit the Library, we encourage you to stop by our Coffee Shop. Here, you’ll have a varied selection of delicious drinks to choose from, including a variety of coffees, teas, tisanes, and frozen beverages. All of our coffee, available by the cup or pound, is responsibly sourced and roasted at the Library. Whatever you get, you can enjoy it throughout the building. You will also find great gift options and even milk to purchase so you can save a trip to the store.
The Coffee Shop stands as the center of our World Café program. So when you visit us, you can travel the world! Each month a region of the world is featured
with a special drink, a recipe from the area to make at home, books about the place, and a craft for the kids. You can also check out the World Café page on our website to learn even more about the highlighted location. Get one of the World Café passports at the circulation desk and you can earn a prize each month! If this inspires a real-life trip, we can fulfill that dream by helping you get your actual passport too.
Making dreams come true is our mission. If your dream involves a new job or volunteering, we can help you move along the path by providing fingerprinting services. If growing your career is your dream, we have extensive business materials for you to use. WiFi is available throughout the building and extends into the parking lot if you need after hours access. We also offer spaces to work or conduct meetings.
Or maybe your dream involves diving deeper into a hobby or learning a new skill. We have an array of databases and books which we can help you locate to make that move down the path of exploration.
As you see, people come to the Library for a variety of reasons. We are happy to serve those who come and we’re always pleased to see someone new. If you have a question or want some more information about anything mentioned here, you can call (717.367.7467), visit our website (etownpubliclibrary.org), or stop in. We hope to see you soon!

Join us at the 50th ANNUAL ELIZABETHTOWN FAIR
We would like to invite you to the 50th annual Elizabethtown Fair. Our fair serves as a showcase for local talent and reminds us of the agricultural heritage of Lancaster County. It is a place for families and friends to gather and celebrate all the best in our community.
Fifty years ago the first Elizabethtown Fair was held in Community Park. The first year, there was one tent for competitive exhibits, one food stand, and a few carnival rides. There were no livestock or commercial vendors, no contests, and no entertainment. Fifty years later we have grown to over 3,000 competitive exhibits, forty food stands, over 150 commercial exhibitors, and over 800 livestock. We have added entertainment on two stages and daily contests.
We offer something for everyone from the Baby Photo Contest to Senior Citizens Day. The petting zoo, manned by over 100 volunteers is a very popular attraction for all ages. We offer a place for youth to come together to show their livestock.
The Fair operates with great cooperation from the Elizabethtown Area School District and the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church as the fairgrounds are on school district property and parking is offered on church property. The church also provides an area for Competitive Exhibits to be displayed and a room for our monthly board meetings.
We would like to thank the Elizabethtown Area School District and Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church for being part of the Fair.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters, including volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and patrons. The Elizabethtown Fair has continued to grow and serve as a place for us to gather as a community to exhibit, compete, entertain, and fellowship together. We have been able to successfully bring together agriculture, business, church, and education in a great atmosphere.
The Elizabethtown Fair Board meets the fourth Thursday from January through October at 7:30 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church. The public is invited to all meetings. For additional information call 717-367-7256 or visit our website www.etownfair.com.
Thank you for your support- see you at the Fair!
