Amy Kreamer
Community Invited To Project Local s the owner of Whisk Café in Elizabethtown, Amy Kreamer values community. Wanting to collaborate with local businesses, she created Project Local, a vendor market that will be held on the first Saturday of each month, beginning April 2. The market will run from 1 to 4 p.m. on the grassy area and parking lot outside of Whisk Café, which is on the grounds of Masonic Village, 98 Masonic Drive. Additional markets will be held on May 7, June 4 and July 2. “I always loved the idea of holding an outdoor event on the beautiful grounds of Masonic Village,” Kreamer said. “Project Local is all about supporting small business by giving people a platform to
goods, Chocolates by Tina Marie and sandwiches and salads.” Local musicians will also perform, including Mike Steele in April, Corty Byron in May, Blessing and Fowler in June and Grant Bryan in July. Kreamer explained that vendors will vary at each market. “We have 25 more vendors that are interested but couldn’t participate in April, and the list is growing,” she said. “Plus, the music and food vendors will be different for each date.” She encourages everyone to come out for the market and enjoy a day to celebrate the community. “We will have so many talented makers, artists and small businesses,” she said. “Come out and support local.” For more information on the event, visit www.facebook.com/ etownprojectlocal.
Celebrate E-Town With Stickers BY CATHY MOLITORIS
Everything old is new again. That’s what the organizers of LIVETown discovered recently when they realized the growing popularity of collecting stickers. “Growing up in the ’80s and remembering how we all had sticker books that we loved, we thought of introducing something new and fun for the kids, while bringing back nostalgia of the past for the adults,” said Tony Gibble, co-owner of The Tatted Toy See Stickers pg 2

Participants will include Masonic Village Farm Market and Floral Designs of Mount Joy as well as food trucks for each market. At the April event, Tri-County Barbecue, What’s For Supper, Sweet & Salty Rolled Ice Cream and The Eggroll Lady will be on hand. Additionally, cupcakes, cookies and candy will be available. “Kids’ activities will be held by Cornerstone Youth Center and Twisted Easel, plus Petals the Clown will make an appearance,” Kreamer noted. “Whisk Café will stay open until 4 p.m. to offer coffee, baked

The show is a cabaret with songs centered around the theme of love, said Amy Hoffman, one of the directors. “People can expect a variety of music,” she explained. “We have 25 people in 20 performances, and they will all be singing about some type of love.” As Hoffman pointed out, “love” is a broad term that can apply to many situations. “There’s romantic love. There’s the journey of love, including moving on after a spouse dies, or there’s family love,” she stated. “We’ve also included songs about fighting because couples fight. There’s the love that comes with friendship. We even have a hymn, so we have a song about religious love and God’s love. ... The concert will include a presentation from Teen Challenge, which Miller has supported for years. “I was hearing about so many families affected by opioids and drug abuse, and I just thought, ‘Hey, I want to get involved,’” he recalled. “I want to spread the good news of the Gospel but also join in becoming a minor partner with folks trying to eliminate (addiction). … Teen Challenge has really had success with helping people get free from addiction.” Miller said the benefit concert will provide an opportunity to not only support Teen Challenge, but also to enjoy a night out. “We invite everyone to join us and become involved in the fight against the opioid crisis,” he said. “At the same time, they can share in an inspiring and uplifting evening of music.” For more information on the concert or to purchase tickets, visit www.itickets .com/events/457063. “This will be a Southern gospel concert,” said Miller, an Elizabethtown-based attorney who is also a gospel singer. “The main group, The Hoppers, are well-known in the Southern gospel field. They are often referred to as ‘America’s favorite family’ in Southern gospel music. They’ve won various awards, and they are very talented. I’ve found them to be sincere, dedicated singers.” Miller will also perform at the concert. “I’ve been singing since I was a boy, and I have recorded a number of albums and CDs,” he said. In addition to his involvement with music, Miller uses his organization, CECEA, to focus on a cause near and dear to his heart. “Some years ago, I made a commitment that I would get involved and participate in a concert that would join the fight against the opioid crisis,” Miller stated. “It’s in our communities, and it affects people in almost any community. Rather than just say, ‘Oh my. What can we do?’ I decided this would be a good way to help. I could share my music.”

fish limit,” Cunningham said. The DFCA will stock hundreds of brook, rainbow, golden and brown trout for participants to catch and take home, including three large golden trout for prizes, Cunningham stated. Winners will receive a new fishing pole and accessories, donated by Precision Fly and Tackle in Lancaster. Cunningham noted that the DFCA has been holding the derby in this location for about 20 years. “This is a great opportunity to teach young children about fishing, teach them how to catch the fish, hold the fish and respect the sport,” he remarked. “Parents and guardians can take the fish home and show the children how to clean, prepare and make a meal out of the fish. Fishing is a lifelong sport
where you can go anywhere in the world and share this experience and joy with fellow fishermen.” The DFCA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring the Donegal watershed to its original state. In cooperation with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the DFCA has raised more than 4,000 trout annually since 1964 for stocking in the Donegal Creek. Cunningham hopes people will come out to the derby to participate in a sport that’s among his favorites. “For me and a large amount of our members, getting outside along a stream and the challenge of catching some of the most beautiful species of fish in PA (is what I love),” he said. “The thrill of the hook set and
landing a stream-bred brook trout is the top of the list.” For more information on the fishing derby, contact Cunningham at 717-4137454. For more information on the DFCA, visit https://donegalcreek.org or search for “Donegal Fish & Conservation Association” on Facebook. All participants must register with the DFCA on the day of the event. Parking will be permitted only in the Donegal Presbyterian Church parking area. No street parking will be allowed. There will be no rain date for the event.

To hear Brian Cunningham tell it, there is nothing better than fishing. As the president of the Donegal Fish and Conservation Association (DFCA), he not only gets to participate in the activity he loves, but he also gets to encourage the next generation to embrace the sport. The DFCA will host its annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 9, from 8 to 11 a.m. The event will be held at the reflecting pool on the grounds of Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1891 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, and is open to children age 11 and under. Also welcome will be all handicapped anglers who possess a current Pennsylvania fishing license. The church will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall, and it will be open to derby participants and the public. “The derby is an opportunity to get kids and families outside and interested in fishing,” Cunningham stated, adding that the event also serves to teach participants about trout management and introduce families to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Derby participants should bring their own equipment and clean their own fish. “We encourage the families to take what they catch up to a five-

Carini Serves Up Pizza and Convenience
L
ocated at 1075 Turnpike Road, Carini Pizza is a li le out of the way from downtown Elizabethtown, and that prompted the restaurant to pivot a bit. The pizza shop just opened Newville Convenience Store inside the former dining room, making it easier than ever to pick up essen als. “We opened the convenience store in the beginning of February,” said co-owner Francesco
Angelo Bellia. “We wanted to give our customers a way to get some of the basics like milk, bread and eggs as well as home goods like laundry detergent and soap. We also sell drinks, candy, snacks and lo ery ckets. (There aren’t many businesses out this way) so this is a way we can be er serve our customers.” He emphasized that although the convenience store is located in the restaurant’s former dining room, Carini
Pizza is s ll open for business. The restaurant opened in 2020 and offers a wide variety of Italian favorites. “We have pizzas, wings, bolis, hot and cold subs and Italian dinners,” Francesco stated. “One of our most popular items is our cowboy burger, which has barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese sauce, onion rings and bacon on it.” He noted that he comes from an Italian family, and cooking is in his blood. His parents, Francesco and Anna Bellia, immigrated from Italy, and Francesco opened his first pizza shop in Elizabethtown more than 25 years ago. Carini Pizza is named for the Bellia family’s hometown. Newville Convenience Store has been very well received since it opened, Francesco said. “People really like it, and they say it’s what we needed out here,” he stated. “It’s been busy.”
He encouraged anyone to stop by to pick up a few basics or grab a delicious Italian meal. “We also do delivery through DoorDash and online ordering through Slice,” he said. “We serve good food with friendly service.” Carini Pizza is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The convenience store is open the same hours as the restaurant.

Master Gardener Hotline Available The Lancaster County Master Gardener Hotline is a free service offered through the Penn State Extension Office to help Lancaster County residents with gardening questions and concerns. Master Gardener volunteers answer questions on a variety of topics, including growing vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, and turfgrass; plant identification; pruning; and insect and disease problems. To help with identification and diagnosis, plant and insect specimens can be brought to the Extension Office at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. Digital photos for plant or insect identification can also be emailed to the office along with questions. Email is checked on weekdays. Individuals should call ahead when bringing a plant sample as the hotline is operating partly remote and partly in person. To receive assistance from a Master Gardener, contact lancastermg@psu.edu or 717-394-6851.
