Joke of the Week
During a Sunday school lesson, a child learned about how God created human beings. The child became especially focused when the teacher explained how Eve was created from Adam’s ribs. Later in the week, the boy’s mother saw him lying down on the floor, so she asked him what was wrong. His reply was priceless: “Mom, I have a pain in my side - I think I’m getting a wife.”
Tip of the Week
Using strongly brewed black tea is a great way to clean your mirrors.
Fact of the Week
Kleenex tissues were originally developed as a potential filter in gas masks during World War I. The material was not perfected during the war but was redeveloped afterward and marketed as a facial tissue instead.
Food for Thought
God’s love is not restricted to when you think you’ve performed well. He loves you even when you make mistakes and fail.
Have agreatweek, everybody!
Open Stage began streaming a staged production of “Kafka’s Shorts” on Jan. 8, and the production will be available on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 3 p.m. through Sunday, Jan. 24. Viewers may watch at www.youtube.com /openstage and www.fb.com /openstagehbg.
The production continues the theater’s unconventional 35th season, wherein the staff has planned and produced staged performances that are filmed and may be streamed on TVs, computers, and smart devices.
Kafka was a Bohemian novelist and short story writer best known for “The Metamorphosis.” The stories in “Kafka’s Shorts,” adapted by David Karl Lee, include “A Country Doctor,” “The Hunger Artist,” and “A Report to an Academy.” The compilation combines absurdity, humor, and tragedy.
The play was filmed using CDC guidelines on social distancing and mask wearing and is the first show to feature an expanded cast in Open Stage’s season. Actors who had been living or working together were able to act together in scenes, noted director Chris Gibson.
Open Stage has made the 35th season free to increase accessibility, but community members may donate, subscribe, or obtain tickets to watch parties at www.open stagehbg.com.
