The Federated Women’s Club of Hershey recently partnered with the Hershey Lions Club to heighten awareness about vision impairment and to collect used eyeglasses. The joint effort began with a recent $250 contribution by the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey to the Hershey Lions Club to help people who are visually impaired. Carol Foley, local and state vision impairment awareness project chair and member of the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey, explained that vision impairment awareness is the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Pennsylvania’s (GFWC Pennsylvania) current two-year President’s Project. The initiative began due to a projected significant increase in the four most common eye problems over the next three decades, she noted. This projection came from the National Eye Institute.

AACA Museum To Celebrate Mustangs The AACA Museum, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, will celebrate National Mustang Day on Saturday, April 17. The annual event commemorates the unveiling of the Mustang at the New York World’s Fair on April 17, 1964, by Henry Ford II. Collaborating with CJ Pony Parts, the AACA Museum invites Mustang owners to showcase their cars on the museum grounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 17. Car owners may stay for all or part of the event. Museum volunteers will be on hand to greet Mustang owners upon arrival. Among the cars on display will be a 1965 Mustang convertible owned by AACA Museum executive
director Jeffrey Bliemeister. He also noted that during the celebration, the museum’s 1950s drive-in theater will show a recording of the panel discussion that kicked off the museum’s Mustang Exhibition in 2018. Mustang drivers and passengers will receive free admission and a AACA Museum and CJ Pony Parts commemorative decal, all courtesy of CJ Pony Parts. Additionally, the first 100 Mustang owners to arrive will receive an official National Mustang Day 2021 decal. Based on Ford’s existing Falcon compact, the Mustang had all-new sheet metal and a long hood and
short rear deck. Ford sold 22,000 Mustangs on the car’s first day and 400,000 during the first full year of production. The 1 million mark was reached early in 1966. The Mustang launched a new category of automobiles known as pony cars. It was also the first automobile to receive the Tiffany Award for Excellence in American Design. Mustang has been in continuous production since 1964 and is now in its sixth design generation. Ford celebrated the production of the 10 millionth Mustang in 2018. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. To learn more, visit www.aacamuseum.org.

GFWC from pg 1 The monetary donation from the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey was used by the Hershey Lions to help an uninsured resident to obtain an eye exam and eyeglasses. The Hershey Lions have been helping the visually impaired since the club’s founding in 1944 with eye exams and glasses and through used eyeglass collections. Used eyeglasses are collected to be matched up with people in need around the world. The Hershey Lions have also provided camp sponsorships for people with visual impairments, large-print books for the Hershey Library, and more. Other GFWC Pennsylvania member clubs are also partnering with Lions clubs and other organizations in similar ways. Collectively, the Federated Women’s Clubs set a goal of gathering over 2,020 pairs of used eyeglasses for donation by May 2022. The clubs swiftly exceeded their goal with a recent total of 2,045 used eyeglasses collected. In addition to assisting the visually impaired through her President’s Project, 2020-22 GFWC Pennsylvania president Sandy Hauenstein volunteers at Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania and hosts a twohour weekly live radio broadcast, including current weather, news, opinion pieces, and articles, that is broadcast online and is available to the vision-impaired.
Carol Foley, local and state vision impairment awareness project chair and member of the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey, displays over 100 pairs of donated, used eyeglasses.
General information about the state project is available at www.gfwcpennsylvania.org. Residents can learn more about the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey by searching for @FedWomensClub Hershey on Facebook. For more information about the Hershey Lions Club, readers may visit www.hersheylions.org.

Congratulations to our nurses for their continued commitment to quality care and service excellence. While we are extremely proud to receive ANCC Magnet Recognition® for nursing excellence for the fifth consecutive time, the real winners are our patients. Our team of nurses is dedicated to providing the highest level of care every day for our patients. Magnet Recognition® is the most prestigious international distinction a health system can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes. Congratulations to our nursing team for bringing home gold, again. All six of Penn Medicine’s acute-care facilities — which also includes The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Chester County Hospital, and Princeton Medical Center — have achieved Magnet Recognition®.

the funds raised go directly to caring for vulnerable and orphaned children. This year’s race has a special significance for Sahd. Her 5-year-old son, Peter, will be participating. “He told me, ‘I want to race to help boys and girls who need mommies, daddies and toys,’” Sahd said, adding that Peter even picked out a unique team name Team Dino-mite - to reflect his love of dinosaurs. While Peter will be racing in honor of his grandmother, Sahd encourages anyone with a desire to give back and also honor women to participate in the event. “We can’t all get together as a community like we have in the past, but we can still bring people together in a different way, united for one cause,” she stated. When it came to raising funds this year for Brittany’s Hope, executive director Mai-Lynn Abel Sahd and her team got creative. “We usually do a big 5K fundraiser in the fall, but we had to scale that down this year,” Sahd said. “So, we came up with this idea of the 5K Mother’s Day Challenge.” The “race your way” event will run from Saturday, May 8, through Saturday, May 15. “It’s a way for people to participate in an easy, safe manner,” Sahd noted. “You just go to our website and choose how you want to participate.” There are multiple options for the fundraiser, which raises money for orphaned and at-risk children through adoption grants and humanitarian initiatives. Participants may pick the distance of their choice and complete the miles anywhere and any way they choose, from walking to running, biking, inline skating and more. Participants may also choose to celebrate Mother’s Day through the event, Sahd said. “The beautiful piece of this is you have the option to honor or dedicate your race to a mother figure - any woman you respect - and we will write a Mother’s Day card and send it out on your behalf,” she explained. “It’s a nice Mother’s Day gift to your mom or any influential woman in your life.” Sahd said although this is the first time Brittany’s Hope is doing a 5K this way, she has set lofty goals. “We would be absolutely thrilled to get over 400 participants to accept the challenge, establish 40 teams and together raise $30,000 for Brittany’s Hope,” she stated. “In challenging times like these, the work of high-impact charities like ours is critically needed. We are their only lifeline.” She added that 100% of
