The students also enjoyed fun challenges as they learned about physical health. Attendees took a break for lunch and regrouped for a K-9 presentation. The students watched police dogs demonstrate various commands and learned about how police dogs assist their officers and the different training tests they perform. Following the K-9 presentation, students sat down for oneto-one time with their mentors. Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) president Anne N. John has named 11 Pennsylvania lawyers to the 2019-20 class of the association’s Bar Leadership Institute (BLI). Among the class members is Chester County’s Patrice Turenne of McCausland Keen & Buckman PC, Devon. Representing Dauphin County are Tara Burns, Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC, Harrisburg, and Jada Greenhowe, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, Harrisburg. This year’s BLI co-chairs are Philip H. Yoon, Superior Court of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Stephanie F. Latimore, Legislative Reference Bureau of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. Both Yoon and Latimore have served in a number of PBA leadership roles. The BLI class was limited in size. To apply, candidates had to
demonstrate leadership ability, commit to attendance and participation in the required events, be currently licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, be a PBA member, and be age 40 years or younger or have practiced five years or less. The BLI was originally developed by Arthur L. Piccone of Kingston in 1995-96 during his year as PBA president to strengthen the PBA’s ongoing efforts to recruit and develop leaders of the association. The first chair of the institute, Gretchen A. Mundorff of Connellsville, re-launched the BLI when she became the 2010-11 president of the PBA. Its current purpose is to inform participants on the day-to-day operations, governance, resources, and staffing of the association, as well as to provide introductions to its various leadership opportunities.

Since the experience was positive, the senior community expanded the learning experience and invited another area high school to participate. On May 9, students from Lebanon Senior High School met with executive director Mike Lapinsky, who started the day by sharing his work experiences. He informed the students about his leadership duties and the required education needed to fulfill the position. Students were divided into groups according to their interests and were paired with department managers to discuss various employment opportunities in a senior living community setting, including nursing, building maintenance, marketing, and resident activities. Resident care director Ali Breski, a licensed professional nurse, talked with several students about her nursing skillset and her daily responsibilities, and she also highlighted different health care-related

Preferred is the official brand of food and agricultural products grown, produced, or processed in Pennsylvania. Giant has supported the program, which is designed to help the state’s farmers and food suppliers grow their businesses, since its inception in 2004. Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding recently joined Giant vice president and chief marketing officer Matt Simon at a press conference in Camp Hill to unveil the shelf tag program. More than 900 items, including meat, poultry, dairy, snacks, condiments, sauces, and even pet food, are now identified by tags with the PA Preferred logo displayed at the shelf level, helping customers to identify Pennsylvania products. The PA Preferred shelf tags will be displayed in stores year-round. With the arrival of the local produce season in its stores, Giant also plans to recognize local farmers through a multi-
faceted marketing campaign that includes in-store signage and displays, social and digital media, TV and radio advertising, billboards, and the company’s instore Savory magazine. From farm names to state identifier stickers and imagery showcasing
the season’s harvest, the campaign aims to highlight the stories behind the farms and people responsible for bringing the products to stores. For more information, readers may visit https://giantfood stores.com/.
