Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) is presenting the artwork of the Class of 2021. The exhibiting work is divided into two pillars of presentation: a digital thesis exhibition archiving each student’s capstone project and a spotlight gallery exhibition that highlights one work from each senior. The gallery exhibition has an accompanying publication which is also available online.
Both exhibits gather the individual works of each member of the Class of 2021 into a shared experience, a nod to nostalgia, and a tribute to the collective spirit of the time that characterizes a unique moment in college education.
The senior exhibition, “Sincerely Yours, the Resilient, the Perseverant, the Tenacious, the Tired, & the Determined,” is on display at PCA&D’s Main Gallery at 204 N. Prince St., Lancaster, and features one work of art by each senior in a physical exhibition. As part of a gallery internship, this exhibit was co-curated by five members of the Class of 2021: Nicole Denzler, Mandi Hall, Alexis Lebesco, Regina Marie Mehaffey, and Rachel Stork. Visitation can be arranged through a time-ticketed system at www.PCAD.edu.
The concept of a digital thesis exhibition premiered last year to spotlight the Class of 2020. The digital platform was launched as a new annual tradition and innovative approach to providing a greater online presence and exposure for the graduating class. It will also serve as an ongoing archive of alumni work. This year, the digital exhibition highlights the thesis work of 58 seniors from the animation and game art, fine art, graphic design, illustration, and photography and video departments. The work is available to view online at https://pcad.edu/gallery_exhibit /sincerely-yours.
The student co-curator model, introduced with the Class of 2020, expanded this year into a class in which the co-curators explored the history and theory of exhibitions. It aims to display the individuality of its members within a coherent exhibition that reflects these unusual times.
The exhibition is accompanied by a 137-page catalog designed by Kelly Phan, Class of 2022.
In addition to the five co-curators, the featured artists are Brendon Scott Adams, Artzbeat, Isaac Baker, Frank Barbera, Joanna Becker, Dorinda M. Benner, Jeremy Bensing, Jia Bernstein, Courtney Boyd, Riss Brendel, Daniel L. Cardona, Zorina Eckman, Benjamin Farley, Nathaniel Alex Gonzalez, Hannah Guldin, Alexander Gutierrez, Brandon Harris, Amanda Herr, Paige Hershey, John Hollas, Jolie Jones, Sydney Landis, Ken Donovan Landis, Brittany Taylor Lare, Sarah Lennon, Brianna Grace Linwood, Madeleine Lyash, Jeff Maisonneuve, Eion McCleary, Kaitlyn McCulley, Ayana Janell McGaw, Amelia Mellberg, William Metzinger IV, Lyzzi Michel, Hannah Miller, Mab Moon, Breanna Nelson, Karissa Nicole, Danielle Parker, Jadin Poliski, Dixon Y. PughCook, Maggie Riley, Will Riley, Spencer Robbins, James William Morrow Shepherd, Tessa Sherk, Lizbeth Sherlock, Kyeir Smith, Shazeem Sueksagan, Jericho Tulayan, Miles Warren, Seth Zeller, and Alex Zhao.

This will be the fourth year that proceeds benefit Lancaster Central Market. When asked why people should participate in the race, Dani Decker, communications manager at Central Market, said, “Because it allows Central Market to continue operating and to continue to be a source of fresh food for Lancaster city and the surrounding counties.” Although there are for profit businesses within the market, Central Market is run by a nonprofit. Events such as Red Rose Run help Central Market with outreach, employing staff, and maintaining the building. Although the race was different last year, the proceeds still made a huge impact on Central Market. “It was so important because we used the money to purchase hand sanitizer stations, provide masks to everyone who walked through the doors, and do thorough cleanings,” explained Decker
LOOP strives to make Red Rose Run better than the year before. This year, LOOP put together six different course options for those local to Lancaster. “Since the race is virtual, you can run it anywhere, but we put together these options to help guide people,” said Annie Weeks, director of LOOP. “It’s been a hard year for so many people, and this is a chance for everyone to do something together from all around the world. This is a city celebration. We’re celebrating community and we’re celebrating health.”
