The Kiwanis Club of Lititz Area will hold its 21st annual Lititz Chocolate Walk on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is hosted each year by the Kiwanis Club and Wilbur Chocolate on the Saturday before Columbus Day. All the chefs and chocolatiers donate their time and treats, and merchants provide locations for the chocolatiers to distribute food.

The number of tickets is limited to 2,000, with all money raised going to support children’s charities, such as Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic, and the Lititz and Manheim Township public libraries. The event has sold out in recent years, so early ticket purchase is recommended.

To purchase tickets, visit www.lititzchocolatewalk.com or stop by Wilbur Chocolate, 45 N. Broad St.; Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, 625 Community Way, Lancaster; Aaron’s Books, 35 E. Main St.; Lititz Apothecary, 100 E. Main St.; Zum Anker Alley Shoppes, 22 E. Main St. (rear); Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz; or Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster.

Participants should note that many Chocolate Walk locations are not handicappedaccessible. Organizers recommended that people with disabilities bring a friend to help them obtain their samples.

The Chocolate Walk provides tourist dollars to the local economy. People have participated from as far away as California and from more than 20 other states. Sponsors include Blue Ridge Communications, Luther Acres, and Spacht-Snyder Funeral Home.

Over the course of the event’s existence, the Kiwanis Club - which has fewer than 20 active members - has raised over $1 million for local children’s charities. As part of Kiwanis International, a worldwide service organization, the Lititz club is devoted to helping the children of the world one child, one community at a time.

At least 150 volunteers are needed for Chocolate Walk. Interested individuals may email LStickler49@ hotmail.com. Two shifts are available, and each volunteer will receive a pass to enjoy five free samples of his or her choice.

For more information on the Chocolate Walk, including sponsorship, volunteer opportunities, and membership in the Kiwanis Club, call the Chocolate Walk hotline at 717-560-2295 or visit the aforementioned website.

LancasterHistory Plans Activities

LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, will present story times and an outdoor concert in July. The story times will be offered every Wednesday in July at 10 a.m. A museum educator will read aloud from a book centered on a historical theme and then lead a craft or activity inspired by the theme. Suggested for children age 12 and under, this program is intended to broaden kids’ historical knowledge and establish museum literacy and critical thinking skills. The books will be “Eliza: The Story of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton” by Margaret McNamara on July 13, “Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race” by Margot Lee Shetterly on July 20, and “Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story From the Underground Railroad” by Ellen Levine on July 27.

The program is free, and registration is required to ensure enough craft supplies are available. To register, call 717-392-4633.

Story times will take place outdoors unless it rains, in which case they will be moved indoors. All attendees should abide by LancasterHistory’s Health and Safety Protocols for Visitors. LancasterHistory asks that at least one adult age 18 or older attends for every two children.

Music on the Lawn will be presented on Saturday, July 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring local band Mark DeRose and the Dreadnoughts. The band will perform upbeat roots, soul, and classic rock music. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, foldable chairs, and picnics. Wellbehaved, leashed dogs are welcome. Anyone who requires special accommodations to attend may notify Annie Weeks at 717-392-4633, ext. 134, or annie.weeks@lancaster history.org in advance.

Portable toilets will be available on-site, including one that is handicapped-accessible. In the event of inclement weather, the decision to continue or to cancel will be made at noon on July 16 and ticketholders will be notified.

Tickets are free for LancasterHistory members and for children age 17 and under. There is a fee for nonmembers age 18 and up. To purchase tickets in advance, visit www.lancasterhistory.org or call 717-392-4633. Tickets may also be available at the door but are not guaranteed.
