Banquet will benefit Teen Central
BY CATHY MOLITORIS
“Banquet day is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Janelle Heying, executive director of Teen Central in Manheim. “To see so many people gather together to hear about what God is doing through the people and ministry of Teen Central and to feel how many supporters love, pray for and deeply care about the future of the youth who we serve
“Our goal is to provide spiritual development and quality life experiences for the youth of our community.”
daily is a powerful and beautiful experience.”
Teen Central’s annual banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at the Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the banquet will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The event will feature a buffet-style meal provided by Country Home Catering. The menu is still being finalized, Heying said, but it will feature whoopie pies from Amy’s Mixing Bowl and a sundae bar served by Teen Central’s board members.
A variety of items will be up for grabs at a silent auction during the banquet. “We try to include a compilation of handmade items, theme baskets and local experiences, all while simultaneously promoting the small
businesses, churches and community members who support our ministry in this way,” Heying shared.
The banquet guest speaker will be pastor Jose Jimenez, who currently serves at Activ8 Church in Lancaster. Heying first met Jimenez in 2019 when the pastor led a Bible study with high school students at Teen Central.
“It was clear upon meeting him that he had a passion for
connecting youth to Christ,” she remarked. “Hearing parts of his testimony, his heart for serving those around him and getting a glimpse into his ministry from some of his former students while he was serving as the director of Teen Haven - the youth outreach of Water Street Mission - I knew that he could easily share about the work that youth centers like Teen Central do, and he has seen

Friends to display artwork at Ware Center
In honor of Women’s History Month, the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster, will host an exhibit of artworks by Millersville University (MU) alumnae Kerry Sacco and Ann Thomas in the Regitz Gallery. The exhibit, “Connections and Pathways,” will open with a reception on Frist Friday, March 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., during which visitors may meet the artists and view the collection.
In this exhibition, Sacco and Thomas interpret the complexity of nature and celebrate 40 years of
friendship through connections and pathways to the landscape of their worlds.
Both artists graduated with art degrees from MU, but their initial path did not follow the painting route. Sacco pursued graduate studies in lithography at MU and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. During that time, she began to appreciate works by the Pennsylvania Impressionists, which led to further studies of oil painting. Her landscapes in the upcoming exhibition focus on well-known
local subjects, and the artworks are notable for their composition, color, and brushwork.
Upon graduating from MU, Thomas focused on architecture, interior design, and other entrepreneurial pursuits. A decade ago, after raising two daughters, she embraced the one medium that had
eluded her: oil painting. Primarily self-taught, she creates landscapes that explore the beauty that surrounds her home in Hunterdon County, N.J., and in Bucks County.
The exhibition will be on view through Friday, March 29. The gallery is open daily. For more information, call 717-871-7814.

In addition to Ryan Aviation’s sponsorship of the Experience LIVE Conference, the company’s donation helped
launch LiveX, the Industry Engagement Fund for Live Experience Design and Production. LiveX is a program created in partnership with the Academy of Live Technology at Rock Lititz and the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, training students for careers in the entertainment industry. The fund will help support travel costs for students to engage in real life experiences at festivals, concerts, and more.

“Anastasia” from
played by Amanda Lewis as an adult and Violet Bartlett as a child. According to the story, Anastasia may have escaped and survived when her family was executed by revolutionaries in 1918. When young woman named Anya (Lewis) with amnesia seeks to discover her past, she is persuaded by two con artists - Dmitry, played by Ric Weaver, and Vlad Popov, played by Josh Glacken, who hope to benefit from Anya’s resemblance to Anastasia by passing her off as the Grand Duchess to her paternal grandmother, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, played by Joy Schaeffer.
“Anastasia” will include a segment of “Swan Lake” with dancers from Citylight Dance Theatre on pointe and Anna Riley dancing the part of Odette.
Baloche and Dom Deriso have come to the rescue by designing and building platforms to accommodate the cast. “They have come up with this really cool idea of building arches we can go in and out of and use to create different places and time,” said DePaul, who added that the lead character will delve into her childhood memories as part of the plotline. DePaul praised members of the cast and crew, saying, “They are so creative and collaborative, and they are excited to do a show that is so newly available.”

DePaul referred to the story as historical fiction. “It has been proven Anastasia did not survive,” she noted, adding that she was intrigued by the show’s connection to history. “We tend to enjoy doing shows that are rooted in literature and history (because) the stories are so human and deep,” DePaul explained, adding that the message of hope in the show was also appealing. “(Audience members) find themselves on a journey and process and who she comes to be on the other side is inspiring,” she said. “I hope (attendees) leave with a sense of hope,” she said. “We need hope and magic.”
The more than 25 musical numbers in “Anastasia” include solos and showstoppers that put the entire cast of 30 on stage. DePaul said that standout songs include “In My Dreams,” “Learn to Do It,” and “Once Upon a December,” with the final song being among the most catchy.
DePaul said she has been challenged by the best ways to utilize all the cast members using only the Cavod stage. Set designers Shana

Students in the Veterinary Assistant program will benefit from a laboratory equipment update made possible via a grant for more than $4,396 to Lindsay Feerrar. Adding a Vetscan VS, an HD microscope and a Vetscan Vue will bring the program up to industry standards.
The Collision Repair program will add a SimSpray virtual reality (VR) paint trainer using $45,460 granted to Richard White. This device uses state-ofthe-art VR technology and trackers to provide a realistic experience of painting in the collision industry.
Brett Reider in the Automotive Technology program received $23,000 for new training equipment that will allow the class to work through simulated diagnostic and repair scenarios involving automotive electronics.
These awards were
named in honor of Michael K. Curley, who served as executive director of the LCCTC from 2002 to 2008. Curley was instrumental in the start of the LCCTF and is a continued supporter of the mission of the LCCTF and the LCCTC.

cast has already featured episodes about Leadership Lancaster, Wheatland, the Demuth Foundation, and nutrition and food accessibility. power of God through ministries like ours.”
The banquet is Teen Central’s largest annual fundraiser. While it is free to attend, an offering will be received, with proceeds directly benefiting the organization’s ministry and the youth it serves.
All programming at Teen Central is offered free to students in grades five through 12. “Our goal is to provide spiritual development and quality life experiences for the youth of our community,” Heying said. “We do so by providing weekday programming, special events and other opportunities for youth to gather in and outside of our youth facility. It is our hope to provide positive activities, mentoring relationships and to promote social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth.”
She credits volunteers, staff and supporters with making the mission of Teen Central possible.
“God is doing big things at Teen Central, and I have seen Him powerfully transform brokenness into beauty,” she shared. “I see young leaders being formed and encouraged, students thinking of others’ needs before their own and genuine and kind youth discovering their gifts and using them to impact those around them. To be able to say that Teen Central gets to play a role in their lives as they continue to discover who they are, learn and grow is a true blessing.”
The deadline to reserve tickets for the banquet is Saturday, March 16. Tickets may be reserved by calling 717-664-2990 or emailing info@teencentralmanheim. org.
