Enjoy A Christmas Meal And Live Nativity BY CATHY MOLITORIS
R065290
For fellowship, food and fun, head to Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, on Saturday, Dec. 19. The church will hold a drivethrough live Nativity and free Christmas meal for pickup between 2 and 4 p.m. “The meal is an annual tradition,” said pastor Blaine Wenger. “We had to change some things this year, but we didn’t want to give this up. It was important for us to do this for our community.” While the meal is traditionally a sit-down dinner, shifting to takeout-only was necessary this year, he
noted, adding, “We’re still offering a great meal of ham and baked potatoes, green beans and dessert.” With the church needing to change the format of its meal, the congregation took the opportunity to add something new. “This year, we’ll be having a drive-through Nativity with five different stations,” Wenger stated. “Visitors will be able to hear and see the Christmas story with live music and with live animals.” The Christmas meal is always a popular event with the public, he said. “Last year, about 350 people came for the meal,” he remarked. “ We want the
community to know we are here for them. We want to share the message of Jesus with them and focus on everything Christmas is about.” W hile reservations are required for the meal,
anyone is invited to come to the drive-through Nativity, Wenger noted. The meal reservation deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 16. To make a reservation, readers may call 717-665-4499.
The public is invited to a drive-through live Nativity and Christmas meal at Ruhl’s United Methodist Church in Manheim on Saturday, Dec. 19.

New Year’s Day Ride Will Benefit Veterans
MANHEIM CENTRAL EDITION
BY CATHY MOLITORIS Published By
On New Year’s Day, the streets of Lancaster County will be filled with motorcyclists, all riding to benefit veterans. The 12th annual charity ride will kick off at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at the Walter S. Ebersole American Legion Post 185, 255 W. Main St., Mount Joy. Registration for the event will open at 10 a.m. Proceeds from the event benefit veterans who use services at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. “Last year, we raised $33,000,” said Tyler Stumpf, ride organizer. “Over the years, we have raised $193,000.” Money is raised through the entry fee for the ride as well as sales of T-shirts and patches. Typically, the event would also include a meal after the ride and a silent auction, but that has

changed this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, organizers are looking for donations of items for veterans or financial contributions. “The event will be held completely outside this year,” Stumpf noted. “We’ll have a trailer in the parking lot to collect things for veterans like toiletries, stamps and pre-paid phone cards.” The 25-mile ride follows a route along the Susquehanna River and concludes at the Elizabethtown American Legion Post 329, 240 N. Hanover St. Proceeds from the ride are wholly used for veteran services, with no money going to administrative costs or overhead, said Nicole Tipping, who will be participating in the event. “Since donations will not be as big this year without the auction, we are really encouraging people to bring items for the vets or to

Drivers of other vehicles are invited, Stumpf said, adding, “It’s for anyone who would like to honor veterans.” It was important to organizers that the ride hap-
pened this year, despite changes to the event. “We knew we were going to do the ride, no matter what we had to change,” Stumpf ex plained. “ We never once thought about canceling it. It’s too important to us and to the veterans.” For more information on the event, readers may call Stumpf at 717-468-6197.

The Amish Experience, a guided bus tour company in Lancaster County founded in 1959, has announced that in order to serve those visitors who are concerned about getting on a bus with strangers, it has developed a completely contactless option for the traditional 90minute guided Amish farmland tour. A small FM radio transmitter was installed in the Amish Experience bus, so that everything the guide
says into his or her handsfree microphone in the bus is broadcast over a vacant frequency on the FM dial, thus allowing customer to drive in the safety and comfort of their own vehicles, following the bus down the scenic back roads, with the live, in-themoment narration of the guide coming through their car’s speakers. The only thing a customer must have in their vehicle to enjoy the contactless option is an FM radio.
Year - End
There is a fee per car. People may make a reservation online and check in on their phone upon arrival, so no actual tickets are exchanged and the guest does not have to enter any buildings in order to take the tour. They are isolated from people they do not know, yet they can have a fully guided, narrated tour of Lancaster County farmland. A stop along the way is made at an Amish roadside stand and farmbased shop, for people to
shop for locally-made crafts, baked goods and treats, if they choose. The contactless Amish farmland tour will be available for a noon departure on Saturday, Dec 19; Tuesday, Dec. 22; Wednesday, Dec. 23; Thursday, Dec. 24; Saturday, Dec. 26; and Sunday, Dec. 27. Reservations must be made online at www.amish experience.com. The Amish Experience is located at 3121 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand.

If you are struggling, help is here. Celebrate Recovery recently began meeting at Manheim Brethren in Christ (BIC) Church. “When people hear ‘recovery,’ they may think of drugs or alcohol,” said Marlane Hall, who leads the ministry with Darren Sweigart. “Celebrate Recovery is for any hurt, habit or hang-up. It’s for anybody who is struggling with anything, from mental illness to anxiety, depression, grief, porn addiction, food issues, co-dependency. This is a place where you can come and find support and learn tools to help you navigate through your life.” Sweigart said Celebrate Recovery is similar to other recovery programs in some ways. “Our higher power is Jesus. We meet together to find freedom through Him,” he explained. “It’s a 12-Step program like Alcoholics Anonymous, but we also have eight Recovery Principles that we focus on.”
Manheim BIC hosted a Celebrate Recovery group about 10 years ago, but interest in the group waned. Hall and Sweigart were eager to bring the group back to Manheim. Hall has been a member of Celebrate Recovery for 11 years. Sweigart has been involved for about three and a half years. “I tell people that coming to a meeting is like coming to church,” Hall stated. “We start in a large group, and we open

I think these are seasons throughout her life,” noted Hernandez-Tuten. “You see her being productive, and you see her trusting God in the midst of all sorts of situations.” One goal of the book was to show women that they can make significant contributions. “This whole theme of having influence as women no matter where we are is ... a theme I want to share with other women,” said Hernandez-Tuten. With that focus in mind, HernanMari Hernandez-Tuten, dez-Tuten pictured her reader as author of “Proverbs 31 in serious but busy. “I think of this Bible 5 Minutes a Day Bible study as something for women who Study,” has written the book to help busy women have been doing devotionals and want to go a little deeper but aren’t draw closer to God.

ready to sit down for one or two hours,” said Hernandez-Tuten, who worked with her editor to offer readers studies that can be done in a short amount of time. The study is set up to be completed in seven weeks when the reader finishes a segment each day. Hernandez-Tuten noted that the study offers variety. “Some days are short devotions with a question and sometimes an activity,” she said. There is an “Act” section that encourages the reader to “put into action what (she) just learned.” The study can be done individually or in groups. With more than 20 years of experience in ministry, Hernandez-Tuten had considered writing a book later on in her life. When she was contacted by a publisher at the end of 2019, she decided to accept the opportunity as a gift from God. Her feelings about the opportunity did not change, but her circumstances soon did. “I had signed a contract and was moving forward when COVID hit,” Hernandez-Tuten recalled. “I was not expecting to be
writing during a pandemic with (all my family) in my house.” Calling the experience “the opposite of anything I had ever imagined,” HernandezTuten set about writing with three school-age sons attending school virtually and her husband teaching school virtually. “The concentration part was really hard,” she remembered. Eventually, she asked her husband to take the boys on a brief camping trip so she could have the solitude she needed to meet her deadlines, and she completed the book in about four months. About a month after the book was published, Hernandez-Tuten’s father died. To honor her father’s legacy, Hernandez-Tuten held a “Buy a Book, Donate a Book!” event on Nov. 9 at The Mustard Seed Boutique in Lititz. For each one of her books that was sold that day, Hernandez-Tuten donated a book to a local women’s shelter to help fulfill her passion to help women who have been abused. Readers may find writings by Hernandez-Tuten at www.inspiredbyfamily mag.com.
