Saint Peter’s Village home to Cars and Coffee

Combining his interest in cars along with his love of Saint Peter’s Village, Aaron Phillips, a 2022 graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, is the founder of Cars and Coffee, a car show held in the historic village on the second Saturday of the month, weather

permitting, from 8 to 11 a.m.

Saint Peter’s Village is a popular community attraction that features small shops and eateries, but it is perhaps best known for the scenic French Creek, which flows over the rocks behind the shops. Many visitors come to view the cascading French Creek falls as well as enjoy the surrounding hiking trails.

Twin Valley cheer team wins national competition

The 2022-23 Twin Valley Youth Cheer Team, made up of 12 studentathletes in third through seventh grades, was recently named national champion at The ONE Cheer and Dance Finals. The team competed in the Recreation Cheer Level One division.

As part of the competition, the team was given the opportunity to perform its cheer/dance routine in either Virginia Beach, Va.; Sandusky, Ohio; Las Vegas; or Orlando, Fla.

The team members from Twin Valley competed in Virginia Beach, where they received first place, advancing them to the Virtual Global Finals to be judged against the top See Cheer team pg 3

Phillips said having a car show not only showcases the scenic location but also encourages visitors to shop or dine at the small businesses. “I have always lived here and wanted to bring car culture to the village,” said Phillips. “And, of course, I love helping out the village and helping it gain popularity.”

During the car shows, visitors are

Caernarvon Historical Society to host Churchtown Day

The Caernarvon Historical Society will present Churchtown Day, featuring community yard sales along with breakfast and lunch items prepared at the Caernarvon Fire Company, on Saturday, Aug. 5. The event will be held rain or shine.

Yard sales will begin at 7 a.m. on Route 23 in Churchtown, as well as in neighboring communities. “Churchtown Day is a big thing. (People may find) something they really want (or a) treasure,” said Yvonne Styer, historical society

president and historian, noting that the Churchtown Day tradition began in 1984. “The only time we did not have it was in 2020 because of the (pandemic).”

Caernarvon Historical Society will also host a flea market at its property, 2148 Main St., Narvon, and at the property next door, at Caernarvon Township Park. “We use the property where the (Caernarvon Elementary) school was and in front of our building,” said Styer, noting that sales will be held both inside and outside the historical society building. “We will See Churchtown Day pg 2

Those interested in renting a yard sale space in the park are asked to call Styer at 717-445-5040 or stop by the historical society any Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Vendors will get a 12-foot-wide space, and they must bring their own tables. Vendors are responsible for cleaning up any debris and items they do not sell. The historical society reserves the right to refuse yard sale vendors that are not offering familyfriendly items for sale.

In addition, the Caernarvon Fire Company will offer a pancake breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee. There will be separate prices for adults and

children ages 4 to 10. Pulled pork will also be sold by the quart for takeout only.

“They did not have a pancake breakfast for the past few years; it is returning this year,” Styer noted. “It was takeout before because of (the pandemic). This year, you can come in and eat, and it’s all you can eat.”

The fire company is located at 2145 Main St., Narvon. For more information, search for “Caernarvon Fire Company” on Facebook.

Proceeds from the flea market will benefit the society and the upkeep of its building, which includes a local history museum with displays of local artifacts. The building is open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment.

The building houses a library of history books and research books, obituaries and an archives room. Museum displays are changed several times a year. Currently on display are paintings by Morgantown artist Jere Brady.

The Caernarvon Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the history of Caernarvon Township. The society was first established in 1975 and is located in the former Caernarvon Presbyterian Church. In addition to Churchtown Day in August, the society hosts a Memorial Day celebration and hosts history programs with local guest speakers. One is planned for the fall.

More information about the historical society can be found by searching for “Caernarvon Historical Society” on Facebook.

teams in each of the locations.

“There were physical locations, and the teams that finished in first place at the physical locations all competed virtually,” explained parent volunteer Holly Bretzius.

“The judges reviewed the first-place winners from all of the locations, and they chose the No. 1 team (from each). (The team from Twin Valley) was the best of the best and won nationally.”

In recreational cheer, the teams are judged on their stunts; showmanship; tumbling; formations, like pyramids; and transitions. “They watch every detail of the performance,” said Bretzius, noting that along with the title, each cheerleader was awarded a championship medal, ring and jacket, and the team received a banner.

Earning the national title was the culmination of the Twin Valley Youth Cheer Team’s season, during which it earned seven first-place wins under the guidance of cheer coordinator Jasmine Draper and competition coaches Andrea Michener and Jillian Ressel. The team’s presenting sponsor for the season was Brodie Generational Capital Partners, which provided the funding for the girls to register for The ONE competition in Virginia Beach.

“I’m so proud of our youth cheer team. What a way to put Twin Valley youth cheer at the front of the pack,” said Mark Mountz, board president for the league.

The Twin Valley Youth Football & Cheer League is a nonprofit recreational organization, which is open to youths who live in or near the boundaries of the Twin Valley School District. In addition to competitions, participants cheer on the sidelines of Twin Valley youth football games and perform a short routine during halftime. Cheerleading is open to student-athletes of any ability. For more details, visit www.twinvalley football.com/cheer.

Cars and Coffee

encouraged to purchase coffee and breakfast items from one of the village’s shops and then view the cars, which are parked in the lot across from the Saint Peter’s Village post office, 3300 Saint Peter’s Road. “(The car show is from) 8 to 11 (a.m.), but people can stay however long they want to in the village,” noted Phillips. “There are shops and things for people to do.”

The car shows, which are free for spectators and vehicle owners, began three years ago after Phillips received permission from the corporation that owns the village property. “We originally were in the paved lot, but they asked us to move to the post office lot,” he said. “People still go and

get their coffee and walk down to the car show.”

Cars and Coffee attracts anywhere from 50 to 80 cars each month. “(Visitors have said) that they have never seen a car show in such a unique environment,” Phillips said.

“We get new faces and different cars every month, and it’s all varieties of cars. We get American cars, Japanese cars, classic and new.”

Phillips, whose parents own a shop in the village, is also a young entrepreneur. He started his own business, Devotion Detailing, during the pandemic. “People were not using their cars … so I would come and detail (their cars) in the driveway,” he explained. “Along with detailing, I buy and sell cars, so I have taken cars (to the

car show) through the years.” He also is a part-time student studying automotive technology.

Phillips especially enjoys it when people visit the village for the first time after learning about the car show. “It excites me every time I see the cars pulling up,” he shared. “It makes me feel sure I am doing something right. It’s such a nice environment to sit for a while, and you have the added benefit of the shops for people to check out.”

Saint Peter’s Village is located off Route 23 on Saint Peter’s Road in Warwick Township. To learn more about the car show, search for “Saint Peter’s Cars and Coffee” on Facebook or contact Phillips at aphillips6698@gmail.com.
