Enjoy A World Of Wheels By Dayna M. Reidenouer
The sixth annual World of Wheels car show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Encounter Church, 300 Hideaway Drive, located off Route 472 south of Quarryville. A rain date of Sunday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 7 p.m. has been set. Participation in the show is not limited by make, model, age, or type of vehicle. “It’s open to anything with wheels. Our tagline is, ‘If you can ride it or drive it, you can show it,” said Kim Bandy, who coordinates the show with her husband, Jerry. “One guy brought his big, deluxe motorhome one year. Another year, a guy brought an 18-wheeler.” Converted bikes have also shown up at the event, which attracted more than 85 vehicles last year. Kim noted that some cars have been trailered to the
event, and that is OK. “We have plenty of parking,” she said. The event will be casual; there will be no adjudication of any vehicles, nor will prizes be awarded. Additionally, every aspect of the event will be free of charge. “Registration is free. The food is free. The fun is free,” Kim declared. A church member who likes to grill will prepare burgers and hot dogs. Chips, freshly popped popcorn, desserts, and beverages will also be offered. Kim related that while she and Jerry are committed to ensuring there are no expenses for exhibitors or spectators, they put out a donation jar at last year’s show at the continued urging of a regular participant with the promise of giving the funds to a local charity. That jar amassed about $220 for Solid Rock Youth Ministries in Quarryville. The
Jerry Bandy invites automotive enthusiasts to enter or attend the sixth annual World of Wheels car show at Encounter Church on Sept. 21. Shown with Bandy are a 1996 Ford F-150 (left) and a 1965 Ford Mustang. Bandys are still working on deciding which organization to support this year. Music will be played by a worship leader at the church. “We’re trying to take it more toward Christian music,” Kim said, explaining that she wanted something other than the oldies music typically played at car shows. Encounter Church’s elder team and prayer teams will be on hand to pray
with people who request it. Information about Christianity will be available at the registration table. “We try to keep it a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It’s our desire to bless our community with an afternoon to relax and hang out with old friends and get to know a few new ones,” Kim commented. “Mostly people just come and hang out. Everybody brings their lawn chairs to sit by their cars or get up and mingle.” See World Of Wheels pg 4

A total of 1,000 pounds of tomatoes was harvested during the second week of August at Homefields Care Farm, a nonprofit community-supported agriculture (CSA) program that provides employment and training for disabled individuals. Located on a 23-acre organic farm at 150 Letort Road, Millersville, Homefields grows more than 300 varieties of produce. Arguably, though, the greatest product that comes out of Homefields Care Farm cannot be quantified. “Homefields uses agriculture … for therapeutic value,” said board vice president Allison Hawthorne. She elaborated on the benefits of working on the farm: plenty of sunshine and Vitamin D, opportunities for working independently, the pride of watching something flourish, and chances to perform meaningful labor. “The CSA brings people to the farm to blend with people who have different abilities,” added co-founder Linda Strauss. “Prejudices dissolve. The sixth annual Conestoga Classic Car Show has been set for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street, Conestoga. Folks who would like to display their interesting vehicles may submit registration forms until Saturday, Sept. 21. After that date, hopeful exhibitors must wait to register at the event. Every paid entrant will receive a lunch voucher. The first 200 vehicles will receive a souvenir dash plaque and a goodie bag from the First Responders Friends (FRF), which is hosting the event. Last year’s car show drew 298 vehicles, including exotics like a Lamborghini, a Lotus, an Audi R8, and an Acura NSX. While that may seem like a lot of automobiles, that figure is down about 50 from 2017. The organizers of the show noted that bad weather and an incident that blocked a major road into Conestoga caused the drop in participation. The group expects that the numbers will rebound and surpass the previous highest attendance. “Pray for no rain,” suggested FRF member Melanie Scheid of Conestoga.
Ten trophies will be awarded this year, and while most of the prizes will be for classic trucks, cars, and motorcycles, at least one trophy has been earmarked for modern muscle cars from 2000 and more recent. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite vehicle, and the winner of the People’s Choice award will have photos of their vehicle used in advertising and promotional materials for the 2020 show. The vehicles will be parked along Main Street, which will be closed between Sand Hill Road and Rineer Road, while the event hub will be located at Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company, 3290 Main St., Conestoga. The fire company’s kitchen will be busy, and members of the public may purchase chicken corn soup, burgers, hot dogs, fries, ice cream, and beverages. Vendors of non-food items will set up booths in front of the fire company. FRF secretary Bob Heckrote of New Providence is accepting applications for vendors, and interested individuals may call him at 717-472-0087. Additionally, event T-shirts will be for sale, and Lancaster Barnstormers mascot Cylo will

visit. A disc jockey will play oldies music, and attendees may enter to win gift baskets and 50/50 drawings. The proceeds from the event will primarily go to the Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company. Money raised in Conestoga will stay in Conestoga, said FRF president Rich Graham of Conestoga. As its name suggests, the First Responders Friends group is dedicated to supporting local public service organizations, including fire companies and police departments. “We are open to donate to all of our local first responders,” said FRF treasurer Nate Heisey of New Providence. “Wherever there’s a need,” Heckrote added. Thanks to overwhelming community support last year, the group’s contributions were not negatively impacted by the lowerthan-expected turnout. “We had increased sponsors and interest in our event,” said FRF vice president Joel Herzog of Conestoga. The FRF members expressed their gratitude to everyone who has been involved in the car show, particularly the exhibitors. “The people coming (with their vehicles) is what makes it,” Herzog remarked. “Without their cars, we wouldn’t have a show.” Because of the continued success of the Conestoga Classic Car Show, the FRF is planning a car show that will be held in Pequea Township sometime in spring. Details will be announced later. Registration forms may be downloaded from the “First Responders Friends” Facebook page. Folks may also contact Graham at 717-917-6500 or first respondersfriends@gmail.com to request a form or more information.

Three matches into the season, Solanco’s golf team has just two wins under their belts but they are already 84 strokes ahead of last year’s team. They improved 45 strokes in the section opener at Par Line Golf Course and were 39 strokes better in their only home match of the season. “I believe competition for the top six spots will be strong throughout the season,” said head coach Greg Minnich. “This is the first time in 13 years that we have had more than two girls on the team. (There are three this year). Logan Wagner is our top freshman, but we have three others (Jack Costigan, Wyatt Festerman and Paulie Swinehart) who will look to improve and possibly compete for a top six spot, if not this year, definitely next year.” The golfers were the first fall sports team to open the 2019 season. They took to the links on Aug. 15 with a road match at Meadia Heights. Without a senior on the squad, Minnich was looking for his young team to gain experience. “We were without two of our top players so this was a chance for others to also gain experience,” Minnich noted. As expected, Logan Wagner tied Lampeter’s Gehrig Harsh for low round of the day, 81. Tyler Sellers (106) and Greta Plechner (109) finished second and third, respectively, for the Mules with freshman Anna Sexton’s 118 rounding out the top four. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to offset the Pioneers, who finished on top, 332-414. Jeffrey Martin and Andre Mohler also competed. “Logan played well in his freshman debut, as did Anna,” said Minnich. “To tie for low round on a very tough course shows the type of player Logan is. Tyler and Greta both continue to show great improvement.” The Mules opened Section Two play on Aug. 20 at Par Line

hosted by Elizabethtown. Warwick, with a 315, came out on top. E-town (337), Ephrata (356), Garden Spot (367) and Solanco (373) followed with CV (481) rounding out the section. Warwick’s Ethan Minnich carded the low score of the day with a 72 while Solanco’s Wagner, with a 79, was the third-lowest score of the day. “Logan recorded four consecutive birdies in the middle of his round,” noted Minnich. Andy Teaman (99), Sellers (100) and Olivia Lasko (104) also counted for the Mules. Sexton also carded a 104 with Plechner settling for a 115. “ We were only six shots behind Garden Spot,” Minnich pointed out. “Tyler was impressive. He parred five of his last six holes to score a career best 100.” Solanco hosted its only match of the season on Aug. 22 and again finished in fifth place. Their 387 was well ahead of CV (466) and just five shots behind E-town’s 382. Warwick led the section with a 335. Individually, Wagner’s 76 was low score of the day. “He was four strokes ahead of the second golfer,” Minnich said. “He played well on his home course, and to come away with low score was special, as sometimes the pressure to perform at home is harder than playing an away course. “As a team, our score was 39 strokes better than last year so we continue to show improvement, but we could use some more consistent play overall,” he added. “Anna continues to show a lot of potential with her play.”

Tickets will be released incrementally, with another block of dates opening up in mid-September. Tours will be offered again in 2020. Tours last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, as participants aboard the 10-passenger pontoon boat ride south on the Lake Clarke portion of the river to the Safe Harbor Dam before circling up to Columbia and continuing back to Wrightsville. Nevin said that the tours fit well with the mission of SNHA to connect people with the Susquehanna River. Southern portions of the approximately 17-mile tour give participants a glimpse of portions of the river that cannot be seen from the roadways. “When you’re driving across the river, you don’t get the sense of scale that you do being out on a boat,” noted Nevin. Tourgoers saw plenty of wildlife on the summer tours, including numerous sightings of the oftenelusive bald eagles. Visitors will get a glimpse of life

They created rock art here not to make it sacred but rather because they saw it as sacred already,” remarked Nevin. “Something is special about this part of the river.” More recent history includes the construction of the railways along the river, thriving shad fisheries, and communities that grew as the Holtwood and Safe Harbor Dams were built. According to SNHA president Mark Platts, the River Discovery Boat Tours are the first new initiative of SNHA since its Congressional designation of Lancaster and York counties as the United States’ 55th National Heritage Area in March 2019. Last year, the two events took place in September several weeks apart, as September is recognized as National Recovery Month. The organizers of both events recognized that they attracted many of the same people, so they opted to join forces. The 521 Club, which is a sober club, is now a co-presenter of the new Recovery Day Lancaster/Recovery Rocks. “ We’re bringing the music aspect,” said Matt Supplee, who is the 521 Club’s events coordinator. The grand event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Buchanan Park, 901 Buchanan Ave., Lancaster, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festivities will kick off with what Theurer called Lancaster’s largest serenity circle. Attendees will be invited to recite the Serenity Prayer together as they gather in a circle on the park’s lawn. At 11 a.m., the 1-mile Walk for Recovery will step off. Participants will have the opportunity to make signs and don provided T-shirts celebrating recovery before processing around the park and the adjacent Franklin & Marshall College campus. “The walk is for celebration and remembrance and to raise awareness,” Theurer said. “Addicts don’t look like the stereotype. We want people to see us healthy and having fun in

addiction recovery. Half Past Dead is a Grateful Dead tribute band. “They put a cool spin on it,” Supplee said of Half Past Dead. “Everyone seems to love (their music) because it’s real chill.” Recovery Day Lancaster/Recovery Rocks is a child-friendly and pet-friendly event. “I’ve been encouraging families to come,” Theurer said. “Everyone who’s been affected by recovery should come.” Attendees are invited to bring flying discs, footballs, and other outdoor games, as well as lawn chairs and blankets for seating. There will also be organized activities for children, a magician, and balloons. A cornhole tournament will be held for older youths and adults during the afternoon. More than 30 organizations that offer resources for recovery will be represented at the event. Alcohol, drugs, and smoking are not permitted at Buchanan Park. bulbs of tender plants like dahlias and tuberous begonias can be dug up and overwintered in their dormant state. All dead foliage should be removed after the bulbs have been dug up, and the bulbs should be allowed to dry out a little before being stored. Container gardeners can overwinter their tender bulbs in their pots
inside, but they should be sure to remove the plants’ foliage and store them in a dark, cool place that maintains temperatures above freezing. Winterizing may mark the end of gardening season, but it is an important task that can ensure a healthy, beautiful garden in the next spring, summer, and fall.

below freezing overnight. When that occurs, annual plants and vegetables are killed off, and perennial plants, which grow back year after year, begin going dormant. Better Homes and Gardens notes that perennials are the easiest plants to prepare for winter, as they require just a little cutting back and mulching to be safe from cold weather. But no two perennials are alike, so homeowners should consult their local gardening center for advice on how to prepare their particular perennials for the coming months. The steps necessary to care for annuals as the weather grows colder depend on which type of annuals - cool- or warm-climate - the homeowner has. Cool-climate annuals should be covered with polyspun garden fabric when light frost is in the forecast. In addition, Better Homes and Gardens recommends pulling dead annuals and adding them to a compost pile after a killing frost. Any annuals that developed fungal disease should be discarded. Homeowners should mulch annual beds with a three- to four-inch layer of chopped leaves or similar materials, spreading the mulch only two inches thick over self-sown seeds they want to germinate in the spring. Warm-climate annuals also should be covered with polyspun garden fabric when light frost is expected. Seeds of cold-hardy annuals can be planted for extended winter bloom, while gardeners also can collect seeds of warm-weather plants that will breed true to type. Even though the focus is winterizing, Better Homes and Gardens recommends that gardeners continue to weed and water their plant beds and plants while also keeping an eye out for pests. If organic mulch has decomposed or thinned out, replace it with a new layer. Get Busy Gardening! notes that the

For the majority of gardening enthusiasts, gardening is a warm-weather activity. While some people live in climates that make it possible to enjoy gardening yearround, those who don’t may lament the end of the gardening season. Winter might not be conducive to gardening, but the arrival of cold weather does not necessarily mean a gardener’s work is done until the following spring. Taking steps to protect plants from winter weather is an important part of maintaining a healthy garden that thrives from year to year. Timing is of the essence when winterizing a garden. The online gardening resource Get Busy Gardening! advises gardeners that the best time to winterize is after the first hard freeze in the fall. A hard freeze occurs when temperatures dip

How to Create A Winter-Friendly Outdoor Living Space For many homeowners, the arrival of fall and winter marks an end to time spent lounging and dining al fresco on the patio. But cold air does not necessarily mean patio furniture must be packed up until flowers bloom anew in spring. In its 2017 Home Design Trends Survey, the American Institute of Architects found that consumers continue to emphasize practical features that expand the functionality of their homes via heavy investment in outdoor living spaces. The survey found that the See Outdoor Space pg 10
leaf blowing should protect their eyes against debris. They also may consider using a mask to prevent inhalation of leaf mold and other particulates. Gloves can protect hands from blisters. · Follow manufacturers’ directions. Read the instructions for powered leaf blowers, and never modify the device in an unauthorized way. · Use a tarp and lift wisely. Rake leaves onto a tarp that can be dragged to a garbage pail or to the curb for municipal pickup. For those who must lift bags of leaves, do so by bending at the knees, not from the waist. · Wear sunscreen. Even though temperatures are cooler in the fall, the sun’s rays are still harmful. People should also take frequent breaks to rehydrate. · Use a secure ladder. When removing leaves from gutters, be sure the ladder is sturdy and secure. Consider having a friend serve as a spotter, holding on to the ladder to offer greater security. Do not overextend to stretch for leaves. · Listen to the body’s signals. If sharp or dull incessant pains occur at any time during leaf cleanup, stop working.

Raking leaves may seem like a simple activity, but, like many household maintenance tasks, it holds the potential for injury. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center advises that pain from outdoor leaf chores can range from strained back muscles to twisted knees. Here’s how to stay safe when cleaning up leaves: · Consider cardiovascular health. Many people do not realize that raking is a thorough cardiovascular workout. Individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease or those who have recovered from surgery may not be well enough to rake leaves. · Pay attention when using a leaf blower. Be cautious not to point an operational blower in the direction of people or pets, as debris can be blown about and cause injury. · Stretch before raking leaves. Warm up muscles beforehand so they are less likely to cramp. UPMC experts suggest taking a short walk prior to raking to stimulate circulation. · Use proper raking form. Much like snow shoveling, one should emphasize proper posture when raking, with legs slightly bent and weight distributed evenly. Hold the rake handle close to the body and keep one hand near the top of the rake for better leverage. · Use the proper gear. A leaf rake fans out like a triangle and comes in various widths. Choose a lightweight material that can be easily maneuvered. A metal rake is for stones and dirt and should not be used for leaves. To get between bushes, a smaller version of a leaf rake, called a shrub rake, should be used. · Wear protective gear. Anyone raking or

example, a large dining table with foldout extensions or leaves is ideal for someone who regularly hosts formal dinner parties. Renovate a room to include a small bar and club chairs for a lounge feel if cocktail parties are typical. · Improve lighting. Work with an electrician or designer who can offer ideas for lighting that can set the mood for entertaining. Rooms that are dull and dim can benefit from overhead lighting fixtures if there are none already available. Task lighting in the kitchen under cabinets can make it easy to prepare food for guests. Wall sconces or focused lighting on art-
work can establish a dramatic effect. · D o m a j o r c o n s t r u c t i o n . Consider working with a builder to make some changes if you simply do not have the space to entertain. Taking down a wall can open kitchens to living spaces, while adding a deck or three-season room off the kitchen or dining room can provide more space for guests to congregate. · Install a guest bath. Update or add a bathroom near the main entertaining areas. This will provide a convenient bathroom for guests to use and will keep them from roaming in areas of the house you would prefer they avoid.

typically a range of between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity range of 35% to 55%, advises ServiceMaster. · Use the right cleaning products. Avoid excessive water to clean wood floors, and select soaps that are specially designed for wood flooring. Consult with the flooring manufacturer for a list of detergents that are safe to use.
Adding Color To Your Garden This Winter If you think that colder weather means the end of beautiful garden colors, think again. There are plenty of cool-season flowers and other plants that can add a pop of color to brighten drab days. These flowers provide color right when many people need it most. Homeowners who live in climates marked by cold winters can select plants that offer color without flowers, including cabbages and kales, which can survive most cold winters and lend an interesting texture to a winter landscape bed. Camellias are a type of flower that
bloom in fall and winter in hues of red, pink, coral, white, and more. The plants are evergreen and will grow from shrubs or small trees when fully established. Hardy varieties may be able to withstand the chill of winter. Of course, no list of winter’s colorful plants would be complete without holly, which offers an eye-catching display of evergreen leaves and bright red berries, though sometimes the berries are golden. For more ideas, visit a local garden center to learn about plants that can add vibrant color to a landscape during autumn and into winter.

cause white marks and other stains. Routinely vacuuming and sweeping up salt is necessary to protect wood floors. · Invest in shoe storage. Wet or snowy boots can create puddles around the house. Place a special mat or tray by the front door where wet shoes can be kept. A bench in the entryway makes it easy for residents and guests to remove their shoes until it is time to go back outside. · Use water-wicking mats. Homeowners will probably need a few extra mats around to tame errant drips and to wipe their shoes on. Any entrance that might be used by people or pets should be protected. Try to avoid petroleum-based, rubber-backed mats, as they could discolor the wood floor. · Control humidity indoors. Cold, dry air in a home can be problematic because the moisture in the wood can eventually evaporate into the air. Heat will suck the moisture from the flooring, causing it to shrink, creak, splinter, and become more brittle. Think about investing in an in-line humidifier for the home’s HVAC system, which can keep a moderate amount of humidity in the home. Hardwood floorboards are installed to accommodate minor temperature and humidity fluctuations. This is

Wood floors can improve the beauty and function of many rooms in a home. Even though wood floors are durable and new protective treatments help seal out many of the things that may have damaged floors in the past, homeowners still need to prioritize protecting their hardwood floors. Certain seasons of the year can be harsher on wood floors than others. For example, seasons characterized by moisture and precipitation, particularly the early spring, the winter, and the fall, can be hard on wood floors. The experts at ServiceMaster Clean say that cold, snowy days can damage wood floors, and Lumber Liquidators agrees that winter weather can be particularly harsh on flooring. With proper care, however, hardwood flooring can survive rain, snow, and cold weather. Homeowners seeking to protect their floors during all four seasons can follow several key steps to keep floors looking beautiful. · Clean up the salt. Salt that keeps sidewalks and streets clear of snow and ice inadvertently gets tracked inside a home. Hard chunks of salt can scratch wood floors, and, if left to sit, that salt can eventually

coats, keys, and shoes so they do not overrun the foyer. Remove any knickknacks or other breakable items from shelves or on coffee tables to free up more space. · Improve conversation seating. Arrange tables and chairs to create conversation nooks for guests who want to talk and get to know one another better. Consider moving out big and bulky sofas in favor of loveseats or comfortable chairs that will take up less room and improve flow in entertaining areas. · Find the pieces you like. Think about how you tend to entertain and then cater your space to those preferences. For

Some homes are seemingly built for entertaining, while others may need a little help to make them more fit for hosting dinners, holiday gatherings, or evenings with friends. People who open their homes to guests may want to make some modifications to their spaces to improve the experience for all involved. · Tame the clutter. Look for ways to reduce clutter in rooms where entertaining takes place. Built-ins with bookshelves and cabinets can hide electronics and toys or collectibles. popularity of outdoor living spaces increased by 72 percent between 2012 and 2017, highlighting just how much homeowners enjoy spending time outdoors. By taking measures to make their outdoor living spaces winterproof, homeowners can enjoy these areas of their homes even more. · Cover your deck. A covered deck may appear to make the space less enjoyable during spring and summer; however, covered decks can protect residents from the sun on especially hot days in summer while also making the space more functional in winter. An overhead shelter on a deck can be outfitted with heaters (and fans to provide a cooling effect in summer) and allow residents to sit outside and watch snow fall without getting wet. · Plant the right trees. Coniferous trees protect against wind,
which can be especially harsh in winter. Homeowners can consult a landscape architect to determine where to plant the trees to ensure they are most effective. · Fire up the patio. A firepit or fireplace can warm up an outdoor living area, making such a space cozy even on a cold winter night. A patio with a built-in firepit can cost a pretty penny, but such an addition can withstand winter weather better than a standalone firepit, which might be vulnerable to being tipped over by winter winds. · Install lighting. The sun sets early in winter, so homeowners won’t be able to rely on natural light to illuminate their outdoor living spaces well into the evening like they do in summer. Heat lamps can be used to both warm and illuminate a space, serving dual, budget-friendly functions.

Picnicking from pg 2 Homefields Care Farm, the farm has created several ways that households may participate. In addition to the usual shares and half-shares, households have the option of purchasing four-week sampler shares if they want to try it out. There is a cost to attend the picnic, with separate prices for adults and for youths ages 13 to 17. Children age 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Bible Program Will Be Available To Students Every Tuesday afternoon from Sept. 24 through mid-May 2020, Bible Adventure volunteers will walk participating third-, fourthand fifth-grade students from Quarryville Elementary School to Memorial United Methodist Church - just down the block. The long-running program (formerly called Released Time Bible Program) is administered by Joy El Generation and approved by the state, allowing students to be dismissed from school for religious instruction. Students must have parental permission to participate. Volunteers await the students in the church’s sanctuary for large-group singing and teaching. The children then separate into small groups where their volunteer smallgroup leaders (called listeners) reinforce the lesson, encourage the students to memorize Bible verses and pray with the children.
The students can earn points by memorizing Bible verses, locating those verses in the Bible and explaining what each verse means. With their accumulated points, children earn incentive awards and discounts on fees for summer camp, run by Joy El Camps and Retreats. Students in third through fifth grades at Quarryville Elementary may pick up a permission form in the school office and take it home for their parents to fill out. Completed forms must be returned to the office by Wednesday, Sept. 18, in order for the student to start Bible Adventure on Sept. 24. Parents can also register online at www.joyelgeneration.org. Questions may be directed to Quarryville Bible Adventure coordinator Pat Reed at 717-806-7156. Bible Adventure programs are also being
held for Bart-Colerain, Clermont and Providence elementary schools. Readers may contact Tammy Brown at 717-618-9839 or tammyjoyel@gmail.com for information about these programs.
Grief Support Group To Meet BASIS (Brothers and Sisters in Support), a ministry to bereaved parents and their families, will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. BASIS offers encouragement to parents on their grief journey, immediately and long-term. For details, including location, contact Calvary Monument Bible Church at 717-442-8161.

Isaac Volpe of Mount Joy competed at the North American Irish Dance Championships in Vancouver, Canada, on July 2 and brought home top honors. Volpe placed 10th in North America in the Boys Under Sixteen Championship Competition, which qualifies him to compete in the 2020 Irish Dance World Championships to be held in April 2020 in Dublin, Ireland. The Boys Under Sixteen Championship Competition began with participants dancing two different rounds, each in front of a separate panel of three judges. The scores from the two rounds were combined for an overall score, and those dancers in the top 50% of the combined scores advanced to a third round, where they danced a hard shoe solo piece specifically choreographed for them. The scores of three additional judges from the third round were then added to their other scores to make up their final score. Volpe is a student at the Paloma School of Irish dance in Lancaster under the direction of Esther Pujol, TCRG, and he has also studied with several world champion dancers and professional Riverdance and Lord of the Dance dancers. His dream is tour with a professional Irish Dance troupe someday.
