Editor’s Letter
This issue is our biggest so far. We have a lot of students’ work that we wanted to include so we fit in as much as possible. Students have written some very interesting stories. Some wrote stories about cats, others about keys and many more topics. It is true that children have a very vivid imagination. We hope both students and parents enjoy reading this issue. We wish you all a great holiday. See you soon.

My family

First day at school It was Monday and it was my first week at Junior High. I made a huge mistake which I will never forget. Our first lesson was Greek language. Many students were talking and shouting. It was really very noisy! Then I shouted very loudly and everyone stopped. I hadn’t noticed that out teacher had already entered because she was too short. It was very difficult to see her. She looked at me strictly and suddenly I felt very embarrassed. I hadn’t wanted to do something like that. I sat in my seat crying. I wanted to die right then. Everybody around me was laughing. It was awful. Finally, after the lesson, my teacher told me that I shouldn’t be so sad and she had already forgotten it. english.gr NEWS The scary cat Four years ago I had a funny experience and I will not forget it. It was a rainy day and it was very cold. The sky was dark and my mum had gone to my grandmother’s. While she was leaving she heard a noise from the mountain. She went to see what it was and she saw a kitten crying all alone. It was afraid. My mum took it home and I gave it some milk. Four years later it had become a beautiful cat. We called her “Robby”. When my friend Matina came to my house one day, she saw Robby on my bed. She started shouting and running in the house because she was afraid of my cat! In the end, I told her that she was a little, funny cat and she had never scratched us. I will never forget this experience. I couldn’t stop laughing! I was surprised that somebody was afraid of this cat! I couldn’t believe it! Joanna R. Make a funny Back to School story here

english.gr NEWS My predictions for my future Fifteen years from now is quite a long time. and I will have done a lot of things in my life... I will then be 28 years old. One is for sure. I will have finished school. My dream is to become a hairdresser because I like to cut hair and make people more beautiful. Secondly, I don’t think that I will be living in my town 15 years from now. I've always wanted to live in a small town because it is a peaceful place. I can play with my friends and I can go to the cinema with my family. Finally, I hope my friends and my family are proud of me and I will be leading a happy life. Marina M. I will then be 29 years old. english.gr NEWS My best friend My best friend is my sister Niki. Niki is eight years old and she's a really great sister. She's got long fair hair, big green eyes and a very nice smile. She's very tall. Niki is a good person. She's funny but a little tiring. She's helpful but impatient. I'm very happy she's my best friend and sister. Mary S.
Locked out Ben and his mother were going home after shopping. Ben was happy when they arrived home. He went into the house and watched an animated film. The TV volume was very loud. Mum put the bags inside the house but the dog suddenly closed the door and she was locked out. Someone was passing and saw what had happened. He decided to help her. He brought the ladder but he couldn't open the window. Mum was shouting Ben's name and Ben heard her. He gave the keys to his mother and she opened the door. Dimitra S.
My favourite singer My favourite singer is Eleni Foureira. She is thin and has a beautiful voice. What I like about her is that she dances beautifully. english.gr NEWS Surfing at Bondi Beach (story) It all began one beautiful morning during my summer holidays. I was in Australia in a big hotel close to Bondi Beach. It was still morning when I woke up. The sun was rising slowly. The sea was calm and shiny by the golden light of the sun. I stayed in bed looking at the view from the open window and listening to the relaxing noise that the waves made as they were falling on the rocks. The beach was empty, no people to break the silence. A few minutes later I decided to go to the beach and ‘feel’ this glory. So I put on my swimming costume and set off for the beach. I first swam for a bit and then sat on the rocks, relaxed and cleared my mind. A little later I noticed that the waves had got a lot bigger so I quickly took my surfboard and started to chase the waves. While I was surfing more tourists, surfers and other people were coming. When I found just the right wave a shark came out . I got terrified so I jumped off the surfboard and the other surfers took me out of the water. I’ll never forget those moments. Mary R.
A sad story It was a Friday afternoon. I came back home from English lessons when I saw it! It was something awful. It was a little dead cat. Oh, my goodness! I felt very sad. I didn't know what to do. I wondered if it was really dead or not. Suddenly I thought to pick up the cat and throw it in the trash. When I did this a little girl saw me and asked if I had seen a white cat. I didn't know what to tell her. I couldn’t answer. I couldn't say a word. I left without saying anything. Dimitra S. 7
english.gr NEWS E-learning (essay) Nowadays e-learning is known as a new method of learning and many people that this is the most convenient way to learn. In my opinion this is not true and I think it is the worst teaching method. First of all, you may feel isolated when you are at home using elearning. Furthermore, one of the biggest problems of e-learning is that you haven’t got the opportunity to communicate with your classmates or with your teacher and as a result of this, your questions cannot be answered directly. Moreover, to able to use e-learning, you have to have a very good internet connection. If you have a problem with it, you would not be able to use e-learning. This is why I believe that e-learning isn’t a better way to learn than traditional learning. George Chas.

My best friend My best friend's name is Kyriakos. Kyriakos is nine years old and he is a great guy. He has got short, dark straight hair, small blue eyes and a very friendly smile. english.gr NEWS MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM Για τέταρτη συνεχή χρονιά οι μαθητές μας πρωταγωνιστούν σε θε ατρι κή παρά σ τασ η σ τη ν Αγγλική γλώσσα. Φέτος ετοιμάσαμε το έργο "Midsummer Night's Dream (Όνειρο Θερινής Νυκτός) του William Shakespeare. Σκοπός μας ήταν όχι να κάνουμε τα παιδιά ηθοποιούς αλλά μέσα από την εξερεύνηση και την αλληλεπίδραση οι μαθητές να εμπλουτίσουν τις γνώσεις τους με τη βιωματική μέθοδο. english.gr NEWS A mysterious party Last summer I went to a party at my best friend’s house and I had a very mysterious experience. It was a lovely summer night. We were sitting in the garden of my friend’s house. It was a lovely place with beautiful flowers. We started telling mysterious stories. One girl told us a story and I was very scared. Finally all the students started screaming because they heard a frightening noise. I felt frightened and all the students went into the house. A snow storm Last winter Jack went to the village and visited his grandparents. One night there was a big storm and snow fell all night. In the morning he looked out the window and the snow was deep. At night he stayed home and helped his grandfather make a fire to keep warm. He didn’t go out for three days. He read books and watched TV. Finally, the sun shined and the snow melted. He was happy. Billy the goat Sally had a goat c a l l e d Billy. Billy lived in the garden. He was eating the leaves of the tree when Sally stopped it. She tied a bell on his neck so she can always find it. One day Billy ran away. It went to find some food. Sally didn’t hear the bell and went to look for him. Sally found Billy in her uncle’s garden eating the tomatoes. english.gr NEWS Dinner at a restaurant couldn't be worse One day I went to a restaurant. My friend was there too. This is my story: When we got in the restaurant a strange man came in too. We stayed there for an hour and a half. Then we looked at the man and he said “What are you looking at?”. I said to him “You have got a spider on your hand!”. “I don’t care!” he shouted and threw the plate with the food. When the man did this you don’t want to know what happened… A food fight had started!!! We took our food outside and we ate it. When we ate it we went inside to pay. It was mess! My favourite celebrity I like a lot of celebrities but most of all I would like to meet Amy Lee. Amy is beautiful and she has got beautiful eyes and a great body. She is a singer and she has won a lot of awards for playing the piano. Amy is sympathetic, kind and patient with her work. I would love to meet this celebrity because she is a kind person and she isn't glamorous like other singers. If I were with her, I would listen to or sing all her songs. I would meet her band and I would learn about her life. I think that Amy Lee is a very good singer and she is unique. I wish to meet her in the future. Joanna R. 15
english.gr NEWS The old key Students wrote a story beginning with the phrase It all began when I found an old key at the back of the kitchen cupboard... It was a sunny day so I didn’t really pay attention to it because I wanted to go out with my friends. But when I got back home I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I tried it on all the doors of the house but it was too small. Then I tried it on a cupboard but it was too thin. After, I noticed that the key was very old so I went to the basement. I checked every dusty corner, but I didn’t find anything. But I didn’t check the book case, I was sure that there wasn’t anything in that the key could match. So I went to the attic. Everything was dusty and all the room was full of spider webs. Books were everywhere, antiques were on the floor and the lamp was broken. So I decided to clean it up. First I opened the window because I needed light. After, I cleaned the dust and fixed the lamp. Then I tidied all the books and the things. Later I searched for the place that the key would match. After a long time I found that the key matched a diary named “Vampire Diaries”. Mary R.

english.gr NEWS The old key Students wrote a story beginning with the phrase It all began when I found an old key at the back of the kitchen cupboard... I didn’t say anything to my mum, I just started looking for old houses we used to live in or old boxes. I couldn’t find anything. The school year was ending and we had to prepare for exams so I didn’t have much time to search. When I stopped looking for clues about this mysterious key I started having weird dreams. Every night , the same dream. An old house which looked like a villa with many young people standing in front of the door. It seemed as if they could see me so they were smiling to me and welcoming me into their house. That dream was the same until exams were over and I started looking for this old house. I asked everyone but no one knew about it. I thought it would be a good idea to ask Ms Gilbert who was a history teacher. She knew everything about our town. We went to the park to talk to her. She said that she knew nothing. When she left a strange old man, who heard our conversation came to me and told me everything I wanted to learn. The house owners were Mary and John Smith, a rich couple who couldn’t have children. They had an unfortunate end. The house was in the forest. That’s why no one knew it. I was holding the key. As I got closer my heart started beating faster. As I opened the door I saw that there was no furniture just a box in the middle of the ‘living room’. The box was so beautiful that I went even closer to see it. Then I realized that the key fit the lock. I opened it and I saw some family pictures of the couple but they had children. english.gr NEWS Holidays in Madagascar It all began one beautiful morning during my summer holidays. We were in Madagascar with all my family. We were on a safari exploring the island. That day my brother and I wanted to visit the forest. We took our bags with all the basic things we needed , including food, water and rope. We took the car and started our little excursion. When we were far away from our house there was no road for cars anymore. So we started walking through the forest. It seemed so dangerous that we could hear the sounds of animals. They sounded angry. Suddenly, the weather changed. It started raining so heavily that we couldn’t see a thing. We panicked and ran but we fell in a hole. That hole had a secret path to an underground city. Strange people came and took us to their king. He was angry because we had come to his forest, made noise and woken him. We apologized to him and asked if we could live. He said that he would take us as slaves. All the people made noises, we tried to escape but we couldn’t. While we were running in another direction my brother was injured by a knife. In all this noise I heard two familiar voices. It was my dad and my mum and I couldn’t understand what they were saying but I opened my eyes to see that my brother was next to me and he wasn’t hurt. It wasn’t raining, it was only a dream. We were in the forest but had touched some poisonous flowers and I had seen that dream. Cathy K. english.gr NEWS Parents’ Page «Μαμά, θέλω να δω τηλεόραση!» ΠΩΣ ΕΠΗΡΕΑΖΕΙ Η ΤΗΛΕΟΡΑΣΗ ΤΗ ΓΛΩΣΣΙΚΗ ΑΝΑΠΤΥΞΗ; Η τηλεόραση αποτελεί ένα από τα βασικά μέσα ενημέρωσης αλλά και διασκέδασης. Πώς μπορεί όμως να επηρεάσει την ομαλή γλωσσική ανάπτυξη ενός παιδιού και πόσο μπορεί να την επηρεάσει; Η υπερβολική έκθεση στην τηλεόραση μπορεί να προκαλέσει: Καθυστέρηση της ομιλίας. Οφείλεται στα περιορισμένα γλωσσικά ερεθίσματα
που δέχεται το παιδί από το περιβάλλον, καθότι η
τηλεόραση αποτελεί τη βασική πηγή ερεθισμάτων. Αντικαθιστά το ομαδικό παιχνίδι. Επιβαρύνεται η κοινωνικοποίηση του , αλλά και η έκθεση του σε ποικίλα ερεθίσματα. Χαμηλές επιδόσεις στο σχολείο. Παραμελεί τα μαθήματα του, δεν κοιμάται σωστά και έτσι επιβαρύνεται η σχολική του επίδοση. Μείωση του χρόνου επικοινωνίας και αλληλεπίδρασης με τα υπόλοιπα μέλη της οικογένειας. Οριοθετήστε λοιπόν την παρουσία της τηλεόρασης στη ζωή του παιδιού, και θέστε μαζί με το παιδί κανόνες όσον αφορά στη χρήση της στην
καθημερινότητα
σας.
Η
παρακολούθηση
ενός
παιδικού
προγράμματος πιθανόν να έχει και εκπαιδευτικό χαρακτήρα, αλλά σε καμία περίπτωση δεν αντικαθιστά τον ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό ρόλο των γονιών στη ζωή του παιδιού.
