The Ultimate Guide for Decorative Concrete Product and Color Selection

“Sealer choice has a dramatic impact on the outcome of the project. This is why we always begin every project with sealer selection.” Sealers For Interior Floors

Brandon Adamson – EVP Engrave-A-Crete, Inc.

CR-510 Inside Acrylic CR-510 Inside Acrylic is a low odor, non-toxic, water reducible acrylic emulsion. It is based on a hard polymer with ultra-small particle size that gives the coating excellent substrate penetration and gloss. The material has excellent UV stability and will not chalk or yellow. It is strongly recommended that Inside Acrylic be top coated with CR-520 Inside Floor Finish. • Gloss Level – Low to Medium • Recommended for Residential Interior Floors

CR-520 Inside Floor Finish CR-520 Inside Floor Finish is a high gloss, long lasting and renewable maintenance coat for interior decorative concrete floors. It dries quickly and is easy to apply, making it ideal for commercial venues with high traffic and limited time for refreshing floors. (Must be applied over the top of a cured sealer.) • Gloss Level – Medium to High • Recommended for Protecting CR-510 on Light to Medium Duty Commercial / Retail Floors

CR-530 Inside Epoxy CR-530 Inside Epoxy is a two component, 100% solids resin system used as a low, medium or high build coating. Inside Epoxy provides an outstanding balance of strength, flexibility, chemical resistance, and clarity. Inside Epoxy can be used as a primer coat for CR-540 Inside Urethane or as a stand alone coating on floors with minimal UV exposure. As a stand alone coating Inside Epoxy is not recommended for food processing areas, commercial kitchens, wineries or other areas that receive constant corrosive exposure. • Gloss Level – High • Recommended for Residential, Commercial and Industrial Interior Floors

CR-540 Inside Urethane CR-540 Inside Urethane is a high solids, two component, water-based aliphatic polyurethane. It provides performance properties equal to conventional solvent based urethanes without the associated health and environmental problems. Inside Urethane is a hard, fast curing coating with good gloss, superior abrasion resistance and is easy to clean. Resistance to yellowing from UV light is excellent. Typical areas of application would include clean rooms, hospitals, concrete counter tops and high traffic retail areas. Inside Urethane is also suitable for aircraft hangars, automotive repair facilities and garage floors. (Requires a primer coat of CR-530 Inside Epoxy) • Gloss Level – High • Recommended for Residential, Commercial and Industrial Interior Floors

Sealers For Exterior Concrete Outside Acrylic CR-550, CR-560, CR-570 High quality clear, 25% solids, solvent based acrylic designed for sealing decorative concrete projects. Outside Acrylic is a hard acrylic polymer that produces coatings with excellent gloss, stain-resistance and are easy to clean. Adhesion to properly prepared concrete surfaces is excellent and the material is non-yellowing. (For Exterior Use Only) Outside Acrylic comes in three variations to assure compliance with local, state, and federal Volatile Organic Compound regulations. • Gloss Level–Medium to High • Recommended for Residential, Commercial and Retail Exterior Concrete. • Consider using a Non-Skid Additive when applying Sealer to Exterior Projects.

Cleaners CR-580 Degreaser A multipurpose high strength industrial cleaner and degreaser. Used during the initial cleaning process to remove grease and suspend particles to ensure a clean surface. For interior and exterior use.

CR-590 Paint & Sealer Remover CR-590 Paint and Sealer Remover is the most effective non-hazardous coatings remover on the market. With technology developed over a decade ago, CR-590 Paint and Sealer Remover is specifically designed to attack the chemical bond of the coating with the concrete. This process effectively “lifts” the coating off the surface rather than emulsifying it. CR-590 Paint & Sealer Remover can remove paint, sealers, glues, and adhesives. For interior and exterior use.

Reactive Acid Chemical (RAC) Stain section How to Use the Color Bible 1. Consider the environment, traffic levels, and desired appearance. 2. Choose the sealer best suited for the previous mentioned criteria. The sealer choice has a dramatic influence on the final color outcome and gloss when using RAC Stains. 3. Choose the color and dilution ratio based on sealer chosen.

About Rac Stain RAC Stain is a single component solution of acidic metallic ion particles, which when applied to concrete, chemically reacts with the particles in the cement (free alkali) to form oxides in the pores of the concrete. These oxides become a permanent part of the substrate to create a colored translucent, variegated and sometimes marbleized effect. The art of RAC Stain is that no two slabs will ever color exactly the same, the texture of concrete, age and dilution ratio affect final color appearance. The translucence of RAC Stain also allows the many unique characteristics of the slab to show through. Every project is a unique piece of art.

Coverage Amount of square footage stained per gallon varies with the surface texture of the concrete, temperature of the concrete, and ambient conditions. Approximate ranges are as follows. Non-Diluted - 100 - 200 sq ft per gallon Diluted 1-1 - 200 - 300 sq ft per gallon Diluted 2-1 - 300 - 400 sq ft per gallon Diluted 4-1 - 400 - 500 sq ft per gallon ** Dilute with distilled water only.** The higher the dilution ratio the lighter the resulting color will be.

Special Considerations Color Change The use of CR-607 Olive Mist and CR-608 Azure Sky on concrete which has no vapor barrier underneath (typically exterior concrete slabs) have the risk of partially or completely turning black when excessive amounts of moisture migrate from underneath the slab to the top surface.

Color Variances Additional colors can be achieved by mixing multiple colors together. Color samples are a representation only and do not guarantee the final color to be an exact match. A test area is recommended on the jobsite to determine actual color. Use only distilled water when diluting RAC Stain. For professional use only. Read TDS and MSDS prior to using this product.

Water Reducible Concentrate (WRC) Stain section How to Use the Color Bible 1. Consider the environment, traffic levels, and desired appearance. 2. Choose the sealer best suited for the previous mentioned criteria. The sealer choice when using a WRC Stain has only a minimal effect on the final color outcome. The sealer choice does however effect the final gloss of the surface. 3. Choose the color based on the dilution ratio.

Samples designated: Sample marked “A” represents a 1 coat application Sample marked “B” represents a 2 coat application Sample marked “C” represents a 3 coat application Color samples displayed are on gray broom finished concrete at a dilution ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part stain. Dilution ratios of 8 parts water to 1 part stain will result in a lighter more transparent appearance. Use of a pump sprayer instead of an HVLP sprayer will yield a darker more solid appearance due to increased amount of material being applied. Note: Color is not significantly altered with the different types of sealers. The most noticeable difference is the appearance of depth with the use of CR-530 Inside Epoxy.

About WRC Stain Concrete Resurrection Water Reducible Concentrate (CR-WRC) is an environmentally friendly (and California compliant) penetrating waterborne acrylic pigmented dye stain. A superior alternative to hazardous solvent and acid based stains. CR-WRC is designed to give predictable natural variegated colors or predictable bright solid colors. A one step staining process, there is no residue to neutralize and scrub off. CR-WRC can also be used for faux finishing, changing hues, or correcting errors after acid staining (surface must be cleaned and neutralized prior to application). For interior and exterior concrete, horizontal or vertical.

BMJ Design, LA

Coverage One quart CR-WRC yields 1.25 - 2.25 total gallons of “ready to use” stain. CR-WRC covers 100-500 sq ft per gallon. Coverage variations depend on concrete surface porosity, dilution ratios and amount of material applied.

Variances Results may vary due to shades and/or hues of concrete. Texture of the slab affects final color appearance. Many slab characteristics show through the stain, especially with the more transparent colors.
