Kennedy will be present at the city commission meeting to discuss the agreement. It is recommended for approval. Commissioners also have the option to further discuss the fiscal 2010-2011 budget. Two budget meetings were held last week for commissioners to question city staff about areas of the budget. The commissioners were to gather in groups of three — to avoid the open meetings law — and discuss the budget during the Memorial Day weekend. It must be approved at the June 15 commission meeting. A public hearing will be held on the budget at the June 15 meeting to solicit any public comments and the budget’s presentation will be advertised five days ahead of the meeting date. In other city business, an appointment with Americans with Disabilities Act Access Board will be made by the commission. In the Enid Municipal Authority portion of the meeting, the budget again will be discussed and action may be taken to approve it. In addition, commissioners will discuss the financial plan for Enid Economic Development Authority. EEDA is not subject to state budget law. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the EEDA financial plan and take any necessary action.

Veteran’s dog tags discovered on old Italian battlefield

Continued from Page A1 Honor, with the key to the city for all her work. The invocation was given by John Daily, who served as Cost of Freedom Traveling Tribute committee chair. Kiowa Black Leggins Honor Society presented the colors and state Rep. Mike Jackson, R-Enid, led the pledge of allegiance. Lucy Newlin then sang the national anthem and Enns introduced Woodring Wall of Honor president Yolanda Middleton to make presentations and remarks. “Let us honor what each solider was fighting for. We are honoring our veterans and the families of fallen heroes,” Middleton said. Middleton read two proclamations. The first was written locally by city commissioner Lewis Blackburn

BUDA, Texas (AP) — A retired police inspector’s newly acquired metal-detecting hobby helped him find dog tags and other items belonging to a Texas World War II veteran who was wounded on an Italian battlefield. Oscar Glomb served with the 36th Infantry Division and landed at the Bay of Salerno in 1943. He was wounded in a June 1944 battle near Gavorrano. Glomb died in 1998. His son said he never forgot about his dog tags. Retired Italian police inspector Daniele Bianchini found the tags, a ring and a medallion while practicing his new hobby on the old battlefield. Bianchini asked to keep one of the tags and sent the rest of the items to Glomb’s family in Texas. Glomb’s 85-year-old wife Dorothy called it a miracle to have the items back and said the family is thankful.

Marine mishap injures 10 NEW YORK (AP) — The powerful propellers on a U.S. Marine Corps aircraft doing a Memorial Day demonstration blew tree branches into people on the ground in a New York City park. Firefighters said 10 people suffered minor injuries. The Osprey MV-22 aircraft was landing at Staten Island’s Clove Lakes Park around 8 a.m. Monday as part of Fleet Week, an annual

declaring May the Month of the Vietnam Veteran. The second was from Gov. Brad Henry declaring 2010 the Year of the Vietnam Veteran. Next, Jackson gave Memorial Day remarks. “There are no words to mirror the sacrifice servicemen and women gave,” Jackson said. “Democracy cannot be successful without men and women who are willing to defend it.” Jackson also read a Memorial Day letter from former president George W. Bush. Enns introduced the keynote speaker, state Sen. Randy Brogdon, R-Owasso. “The greatest symbol of our country is our flag, the red, white and blue. The branches were swept into some people on the ground. Firefighters said seven people have been taken to Richmond University Medical Center. Three others refused medical attention.

Several motor vehicle accidents occurred over Memorial Day weekend in Enid. Two resulted in injuries and transports to local hospitals. According to an Enid Police Department report, shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, Charles D. Simon, 23, of Enid, was injured in a single vehicle accident. Simon fell asleep while driving a 2002 Ford Escape in the 6400 block

of East Garriott. He left the roadway and struck a fence and a speed limit sign. The SUV came to rest in a ditch and caught fire. Simon was able to exit the vehicle. He was transported to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with a broken wrist. According to another EPD report, a three-vehicle accident Monday afternoon sent three to a local hospital. Travis K. According to officers at the scene, Doll was resetting the odometer in her vehicle, and when she looked back up, vehicles in front of her were stopping and she was unable to stop.
