Then he met some chick who used him and the normal level-headed guy I know became irresponsible. He started buying her gifts, they even moved in together although they had a “platonic relationship”. She was sleeping around with others, doing drugs and drinking herself into an early grave. Not only did he never buy a house, he ended up filing for bankruptcy not long after some “exotic” island vacation he paid for. She ended up getting married and having a kid and of course is now divorced. One of my pals saw my friend recently at a wholesale club buying diapers. Really? And I still haven’t received any money. was a scalper. Again awkward. Our hosts never asked who the people were and we of course did not know anyway. As the show progressed one of the band members mentioned they had a friend in the audience who had just gotten married. I waited for the spotlight to hit our table but it was directed onto another table and another couple was recognized. I thought this strange but then so was the whole night. So that’s how I saw Alabama free in Vegas. Odd postscript: the marriage had to be annulled as the groom had somehow overlooked or forgotten that he was still married back in Alabama. On another trip I was walking out of a casino and slightly ahead of two friends on mine when I turned around to say something to them. Ah, but what to my wandering eye did appear but a wanted fugitive! This person was allegedly wanted in Chattanooga on drug charges and possibly some other crimes. He was part of a group who worked for a night club owner and reportedly modeled their crew on the cable TV show “The Sopranos”. This person quickly looked down trying to avoid being recognized. I laughed out loud and called out to Rocco (yes, that Rocco) that it was this person. The ‘fugitive’ did not attempt to flee as I approached him. He quickly related that things were not as they seemed (he was claiming he was not wanted but was being hidden by an alphabet acronym federal agency) He said that I could contact a Chattanooga police officer who was assigned to this agency as a task force officer to verify his story I knew this officer and quickly contacted him. He verified the supposed fugitive’s story and called me “Sherlock Holmes” for finding the presumably hidden and relocated “fugitive”. I told him that hiding the party in a casino in Vegas might not be the best idea as people from Chattanooga frequent there. I was told to keep the incident secret and am only now telling this as the court case has long ago been adjudicated. While on the subject of “cons” or criminals... One day I was walking down the Las Vegas strip minding my own business when a street barker (there are lots of people on

the Vegas strip trying to sell you show tickets, helicopter rides, get you to view timeshares, buy whatever product they are promoting, etc. yelled to me “I know who you are. I know the Man when I see him. I’ve been to jail before.” I walked on and wondered as to how he knew that I was law enforcement. I was a police Detective at the time and had nothing on to identify me as law enforcement. As my friend who was a step or two behind me (hey, I walk fast) started past the street pitchman he yelled to me. “Oh, you got your help with you. He does your beat downs.” I just shook my head and kept walking. I had been told before that I did not “look like a cop”. Maybe not to the average Joe but I guess some criminals can just read the body language. Another weird incident that happened occurred when I was at Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden. I was checking out a tiger and started to walk away when the tiger backed up to the enclosure bars and sprayed me. I’m not sure what that was about.

the slot on another and pulling the handle. She would pay a machine for two or three rolls then if it didn’t pay off she would move on to another. I looked up and realized that there was an attendant in an elevated service area of the oval helping this lucky lady keep an eye on her winnings. I’ve never seen anything like it and now that the machines work off bills or pay tickets and pay out on a paper ticket I never will. Dang that lady had some luck! At least on that morning.

The last strange almost surreal event I will leave you with was near Christmas time. Rocco and I were waiting at a crosswalk on the Las Vegas Strip when a large flat bed truck drove by. On the truck bed was a load of people dressed in Dickinson era clothing and heartily dispensing Christmas Carols. Ah , Christmas cheer in Sin City.

The next strange experience happened on the bus in Vegas. I know what you’re thinking. Strange experiences are commonplace on buses. Maybe so but anyway one night my girlfriend and I were on the bus headed back to our hotel. We started smelling something bad. It started to get worse. This smelled like some really old rotting garbage. As our ride continued the I know what happens in Vegas is smell got steadily worse. I told my supposed to stay in Vegas but some girlfriend I thought it was coming strange stories you just gotta tell. from in front of us. There was a young British- sounding girl riding - Mark Haskins beside a young oriental girl in the seat in front of us. The British

An incident that I can only describe as “surreal” happened early one morning at the Excalibur Casino. I was staying at the Hotel there and went down early to the casino hoping to win. It was my and some of my friends theory that many slot machines were “loaded” up the night before and were ready to pay off early the next day. This was back when the machines paid off in actual coins or if it was a dollar machine the machine paid out in metal tokens. I walked toward a large oval of ‘Blazing Seven’ dollar machines and saw a the pay out tray below a machine full of tokens but with no one around. I looked around and did see anybody. At first I thought somebody had walked off and left their winnings. I took a few steps around the oval while still looking at the token laden tray when I spotted another token loaded tray with no one around! I then started to wonder if I was on some weird version of “Candid Camera” or “Punked”. I walked a little further around the machines and saw another then another token filled tray. I was mystified. I made it almost all the way around the oval and saw a young lady grabbing tokens from one tray and dropping them into ENIGMA

sounding girl started commenting on the smell. The oriental girl nonchalantly volunteered that it was “kimchee” while pointing at what looked like a take-out bag from a restaurant. The oriental girl explained that it was fish. My girlfriend and I tried to contain our laughter in case the girl was offended about her “not too great smelling to us” food. She exited the bus shortly thereafter but the odor of her kimchee lingered on.

SAN FRANCISCO - Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals filed a lawsuit in San Francisco seeking to give a monkey ownership of its selfie photo. The group filed a U.S. federal court lawsuit in San Francisco arguing Naruto, a macaque monkey known to researchers in Indonesia, should be the legal owner of pictures he snapped in 2011 using a camera set up by photographer David J. Slater. The lawsuit names Slater; his company, Wildlife Personalities Ltd.; and publisher Blurb, which issued a collection of Slater’s photographs that included

two of the selfies snapped by Naruto. The suit is seeking to have the monkey declared the “author” and legal owner of the photograph. The picture has been in dispute for more than a year. Website Wikimedia Commons posted some of the pictures snapped by the monkey last year, labeling them public domain, and Slater attempted to have them removed, claiming the copyright he obtained in Britain should be applied globally. “I’ve told them it’s not public domain, they’ve got no right to say that it’s public domain. A monkey pressed the button, but I did all the setting up,” Slater told the National Post last year. Wikimedia refused to remove the pictures, saying Slater doesn’t own the copyright on the image

because he didn’t shoot the photo himself. “Our argument is simple: U.S. copyright law doesn’t prohibit an animal from owning a copyright, and since Naruto took the photo, he owns the copyright, as any human would,” PETA said in a press release. OKEMEH, Okla. - An Oklahoma mom said her 4-year-old son’s pre-K teacher forced him to write with his right hand and sent home an article calling left-handedness “evil.” Alisha Sands said her 4-year-old son, Zayde, started pre-K recently at Oakes Elementary in Okemah and she noticed last week while he was doing homework that he was using his right hand despite being lefthanded. “I just asked ‘Is there anything his teachers ever asked about

his hands?’ And he raises this one and says this one’s bad,” Sands told KFOR-TV. Sands said she sent a note to school with Zayde and the teacher’s response was to send home an article that said left-handedness is “unlucky,” “evil” and “sinister.” “For example, the devil is often portrayed as left-handed,” the article said. Sands said the teacher’s response shocked her. “It breaks my heart for him because someone actually believes that, believes my child is evil because he’s left handed, it’s crazy,” Sands said. The mother said she contacted the superintendent with the article, but there was no action taken. “There was no

suspension of any kind. There was basically nothing done to this teacher,” Sands said. “She told them she thought I needed literature on it.” Sands said she is trying to get Zayde transferred to another class. “I don’t feel like the school did what they were supposed to for him,” Sands said. The principal at Oakes Elementary said officials are investigating the matter and declined to comment further. BOCA RATON, FL - They’re called the munchies. And when they hit you have got to do something about it. Anyone who has been on their way home at three in the morning after a long night knows that feeling. That’s why I think most people can sympathize, at least a little bit, with this Florida man who was out of options one early morning. Police said that the man broke into two houses in Boca Raton, first to steal a pizza and then to take a nap.The incident began about 3:00 a.m., when a 19year-old woman found 24-year-old Milor Michel inside her home. The woman said that she and her roommate found him in the kitchen, rummaging through their refrigerator before he removed pizza, according to the arrest report. He then sat down on the couch to eat the pizza. He told the two roommates that he was a friend of their other roommate. The women did not believe him and demanded that he leave the house. After leaving the home, Michel entered another house in the neighborhood and fell asleep on the couch. A 19-year-old woman who lived there, found Michel sleeping just before 7:00 a.m. Next to him was a half a container of orange juice. She asked the man to leave while another roommate called police. Michel is accused of theft of an occupied structure. SANDUSKY, Ohio - Taco Bell officials said an employee at an Ohio franchise was fired after a viral photo on social media showed him with his hand down the back of his pants. The picture, which was posted to Taco Bell’s official Facebook page by concerned customers, shows an employee at a Sandusky, Ohio, location with his left hand down the back of his pants — apparently inside his underwear. The Erie County Health Department said officials visited the store after a complaint about the photo was lodged with the department Monday. Taco Bell released a statement in response to the controversial photo. “This is completely unacceptable. Our franchisee took immediate action and has terminated the employee and retrained the entire staff. We want customers to know

that the person in the photo was never in contact with the food, and that the Health Department inspected the restaurant and approved its operations.” The company fired two Taco Bell workers in June of 2013 after a viral photo emerged showing one of the employees licking a stack of taco shells. The company said the shells were for training purposes and were not served to customers. BALTIMORE - A Delta plane was grounded overnight in Baltimore when a tarantula escaped from its container in the cargo hold and was spotted by baggage handlers. Delta spokesman Brian Kruse said Atlantabound Flight 1525 was scheduled to take off from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport at 7 p.m. Wednesday, but the pilot decided to ground the plane after baggage handlers discovered the loose arachnid in the cargo hold. Kruse said the pilot wanted to ensure the baboon tarantula was the only one loose on the plane. “They were able to capture it, and they contacted the handler” to ensure there hadn’t been any other tarantulas in the same cage, Kruse told the Baltimore Sun. “We have to make the safe decision on that — being bitten by a tarantula is not a good thing,” CNN quoted the pilot as saying. The passengers were moved to another aircraft, which departed about three hours behind schedule. A passenger told WRDW-TV a flight crew member told him there were a total 750 tarantulas on board the plane and most of them had gotten loose, but Kruse said only the one spider was ever free and it never left the cargo hold. BERKELEY, CA - Now here is a tough moral dilemma. Domino’s Pizza in Berkeley, California, delivered a box of pizza and chicken wings to Mike Vegas, who works as a bartender in San Francisco. Vegas said that he ate the pizza, but placed the wings in his refrigerator for when he returned home from his overnight shift. When he returned home at 5:00 a.m., pulled the chicken wings from the refrigerator and found $1,300 in cash! Vegas then checked his missed calls and realized that the frantic delivery driver had called him numerous times in an attempt to locate the missing money, but since he had been at work, he did not take the calls. Vegas has posted a picture on Facebook, showing two stacks of bills, one containing $666 and another $633. He decided to do the right thing and return the money to Domino’s Pizza. He was rewarded with a year’s supply of free pizza for his honesty. ENIGMA

Bearing False Witness =I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of Kim Davis. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, have not read the news, watched TV, listened to the radio, don’t have internet access or a smartphone (I think I’ve covered all the bases) she is the Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue gay marriage licenses citing her beliefs and even served a short time in jail for contempt of court, to which she deemed herself a martyr.

For the record I am a Christian, do not agree with gay marriage, and don’t really understand homosexuality, and quite frankly don’t really care to. I do realize it’s a big world out there with tons of variations and contradictions to my belief system. I do think this country and the world is going to hell based on recent events and that the end times are probably near. No, I’m not one of those guys that is dressed like a martyr

THE IMPORTANCE OF ADEQUATE INSURANCE COVER TO SMALL BUSINESSES =One of the largest risks facing small business owners is a failure to ensure an adequate level of insurance cover for their company - this is particularly true of small businesses who may not quite have the resources to cope with the large financial losses which may be suffered as a result of 'underinsurance'. A UK study recently estimated that around 80% of businesses may actually be underinsured, and this figure is only likely to rise given the unprecedented volume of new businesses which are forming by the day in the UK. As commercial insurance can be a somewhat dry and complicated topic, it is often overlooked by business owners eager to focus their efforts on lead generation, sales, customer service and production.

While some might move to a more heavily traveled area, Knapp chose his location for many reasons. It’s close to my house,” he says. “It’s not really highly populated, which keeps us grounded better. At his shop Knapp does all sorts of work from the mundane changing oil and flat tires to ground up builds, bobbers (a custom motorcycle that has its front fender removed), choppers, Big Wheel Baggers to custom paint, welding and fabricating.

It was Boondock Saints themed bike. “We’ve built several bikes with them on them,” he adds. “Clients want certain things on their motorcycle.”

If It Wasn’t for “Bad” Luck The Titans Would Have No Luck At All When it comes to good luck the Titans have none at all as they blew a big lead as the Indianapolis Colts scored three times in the fourth quarter led by Andrew Luck’s two touchdown passes and Frank Gore powering in from the right side to erase a 27-14 deficit. The Titans didn’t give up without a fight, however. Marcus Mariota drove Tennessee 80 yards in two minutes to make the score 35-33. Mariota was 5-of-7 on the drive for 69 yards. Jalston Fowler then took it in from the one.

Then the fateful two-point conversion... Fowler got the ball again but was unable to get in the end zone off of left tackle leaving the score 35-33 with 51 seconds remaining. From there the Colts ran out the clock as Luck remained undefeated in his career against the Titans. “Well, obviously extremely disappointing,” said Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt. “I guess not much to say except that we couldn’t make the play we could have made to win that game.” Many pundits argued that the ENIGMA

Titans play-calling got too conservative after climbing to a 27-14 lead but Marcus Mariota disagreed. “Not at all. I felt the coaches did a great job calling the plays,” he said. “Myself, I’ve got to do a better job of executing them.” Blowing a double-digit lead late did not set well with the Titan defense. “We just have to eliminate those big plays. We gave up that big play at the end of the game, and we couldn’t defense the way we needed to,” said Tennessee defensive tackle Durell Casey. “Started off pretty good,

You know, we kept our head down and kept trying to go, but we just couldn’t make the plays when we needed.” Colt’s head coach Chuck Pagano after publicly criticizing his franchise quarterback last week seemed impressed on how Luck was able to overcome his mistakes against the Titans. “He’s a gritty guy and he’s able to move past the bad plays, put them

round players for the price of one, it was the best of times for Jerry Jones entering the season. Three games in, it has become the worst of times. With the heart of the Cowboy offense gutted by injury – quarterback Tony Romo and receiver Dez Bryant – Dallas is indeed entering the winter of its despair. At the end of last year, the Dallas Cowboys were convinced they had found their 21st Century Triplets in Romo, Bryant and DeMarco Murray. Instead of franchising the NFL rushing leader, they let Murray go to the Eagles in free agency. In all probability, had Murray remained with the team, Dez Bryant and Tony Romo would not be sidelined with injuries right now. The reasoning is quite simple. Romo would have been handing the ball off to Murray on the plays both he and Bryant suffered injuries. Dallas leaned heavily on the run last year to protect Romo and his back. The results of this offensive philosophy resulted in a 12-4 season. The Cowboys weren’t about to change that approach entering 2015, especially with an upgraded defense and the return of All-Pro linebacker Sean Lee. So much for wishful thinking!

2015 looked to be a season of uncertainty for the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled up stakes after six seasons in the Scenic City to go west. Longtime owner Frank Burke sold the team weeks prior to the season. Who was going to be the new team in Chattanooga? Would they lose the Lookouts altogether with a new owner? The Lookouts signed a minor league agreement to be the AA-affiliate for the Minnesota Twins. No one was very familiar with the Twins organization. The Twins knew Chattanooga well. The Twins, then the Washington Senators called Chattanooga home over 50 years ago. Under manager Cal Ermer they won a number of league titles that saw future Hall of Famers like Harmon Killebrew come through on their way to the big leagues. People were unfamiliar with the 2015 farm team. They were shockingly surprised to learn that the Twins had more top prospects on their 2015 roster than any other team.

I Want You to Want Cheap Trick If you’ve never seen Cheap Trick in concert… well you haven’t lived and don’t know what you’re missing. The band’s been around over 40 years now and like a fine wine they get better with age. My

frontman and vocalist Robin Zander who every girl had a crush on. Both he and bassist Tom Peterson were the heartthrobs of the band. Then there were the misfits, Rick Nielsen on lead guitar and Bun E.

only disappointment is that Bun E. Carlos no longer tours with the band and there’s some legal wrangling I care to know nothing about going on between the estranged drummer and the rest of the band.

Carlos. Rick was the quintessential geek. With his strange sweaters and ball cap he wore with the bill sticking straight up. Bun was a chubby drummer who dressed like an accountant with a tie and vest. It looked as if he was coming over from his day job to play drums. He was also famous for the cigarette that dangled from his lips as he played. They were quite something to watch.

Enough about the bad stuff, I closed my eyes while at “The Fred” (Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheatre) and felt like a kid again. I can remember when I discovered these guys “Live at Budokan”.
