Has Political Correctness Run Amok? As far as I can determine, modern day Political Correctness began in earnest sometime in the early 1980s. And now in the early 21st century, it has run amok, badly run amok. I think it has reached threatening levels of control. Now, don't get me wrong; I'm all for change; that is, change that improves lives, but not change that will worsen them. And I think that is exactly what Political Correctness has done, and continues to do in ways that limit our freedom. Years ago when I thought Political Correctness meant attempting to be polite, courteous, considerate of others, well-mannered, etc., I thought, yea, about time! Well, I've come to realize that I was so wrong; in no way does such an assumption describe the principles of Political Correctness. I think it has pretty much become a rule book of 'how to live our life', and not necessarily live it in the 'pur-

suit of happiness.' It's 'don't do as might lead to a more peaceful and I do, do as I say do.' cohesive existence for all of us. I don't believe that; I think it is a Here are a few words that I think gradual and deliberate effort to effectively describe what Political suppress our individual rights, to Correctness hopes to achieve: destroy our social, religious, and repression; control; restraint; political traditions. coercion; intimidation; browbeating; bullying; conformity; compli- The fact of the matter is that it's ance. use words that have been a part of our lexicon forever, such as Secretary, Handicapped, Ghetto, Fat, Janitor, Criminal, Holocaust, Caucasian, Jesus, and dozens more. Things have been given new names, names that some "geniuses" find more acceptable, less contentious, less likely to cause dissension, or result in selfeffacement. Who of us could ever have imagined seeing in some public libraries privacy screens on computers, with access to pornography websites for those individuals of such persuasion? Well, don't you know---it's Politically Correct! Isn't that exactly what libraries are supposed to be doing: educating, enlightening, and improving minds by providing all the tools? How absolutely absurd, illogical, and incongruous! Before the Politically Correct Revolution loses steam (if ever), we will see more regulation and control, more suppression of individualism, altering of beliefs, changing attitudes, and brainwashing.

The Rules have changed; seems to me that we are very close to losing our freedom to speak openly, to exchange ideas and differing viewpoints. And how the rules are interpreted and applied depends It's no longer PC to express one's on who is interpreting and applyreligious beliefs, particularly if ing them. you're a Christian; no longer is it PC to defend our traditions, our Unfortunately, I'm not optimistic culture; it's not PC to voice mis- that a brighter and better future givings about loss of values, prin- awaits us. ciples, decline of morals; it's not PC to publicly comment on the - Pat Estelle conduct of individuals; not PC to

conservative columnist, pundit, and “talking head” Bill Kristol described as the “Most Valuable Republican of the 2016 election cycle so far” back in August is now facing an uphill challenge to regain even a shred of credibility. With its eighteen staffers averaging over $128,000 per year, the committee has only held three meetings and interviewed 29 witnesses in 17 months. Remember, this is the eighth congressional committee to “investigate” the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound and CIA base in the Libyan capital. Ambassador

Chris Stevens, foreign service officer Sean Smith, and CIA contractors Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty were killed in the attack and neither the seven prior Congressional committees nor a separate State Department Accountability Review Board investigation found any evidence that then-Secretary of State Clinton lowered security levels at the Benghazi embassy or ordered U.S. assets to “stand down.” Gowdy’s committee is an old-fashioned witch hunt and its target will get to counter-attack for the record this Thursday. If Clinton delivers the winning

sound bites in her testimony, perhaps the GOP will finally put its torches and pitchforks away…

seems to be “taking one for the team” on this and Republican insiders seem to think he’s only one who can navigate the intricate political webs within their party and bring some focus to the chaos. Time will tell…

…Bernie Sanders continues to nip at Hillary’s heels. The selfdescribed “Democratic socialist” got a bit of a poll bump after the Las Vegas debate… but so did Clinton. Sanders reached the pinnacle of pop culture visibility last weekend as Larry David’s fantastic impression during Saturday Night Live’s “cold open” went viral. If you’re not being impersonated on SNL, you’re a non-factor. Perhaps that’s why Jim Webb dropped out this week? Or perhaps he knew that his whiny, occasionally maniacal performance in Vegas did nothing to get him out of the margins and into contention. Yeah, that was probably it…

seems to be strolling for president. He hasn’t officially announced his candidacy, but the rumors are still rampant. I understand that Biden is still dealing with the grief of his son’s passing, but his long decision process has allowed the political landscape to shift dramatically. When Clinton and Sanders both performed well in the first Dem debate, Biden lost his chance to ride in and be the party’s white knight. Lately, he’s …Vice President Joe Biden still been more of a distraction…

…Back to Paul Ryan. The 45year-old chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and 2012 vice presidential nominee announced Tuesday that he would be willing to run for Speaker of the House… as long as he can get prior agreement from various GOP house factions to assure his smooth coronation. The Speaker’s job is challenging and often thankless. Chairing the Ways and Means committee is a lot more fun, I’m sure. Ryan

…It wouldn’t be a batch of political gumbo without a dash of The Donald. Several recent reports indicate that the Republican establishment is loading up to take its shots at Mr. Trump. The old guard and old money don’t consider the surprise front-runner a true conservative and don’t like their inability to exercise any control on him. They plan to hit him hard with negative ads and make him open up his own wallet to counter them. How he responds to those attack ads will determine whether or not he has true staying power. Again… time will tell…

He stated the following at the Fox News debate August 6, 2015: "I will tell you that our system is broken. I gave to many people. Before this, before two months ago, I was a businessman. We have to ask: What is the difference between a politician and a businessman when both measure success by the same standard? One buys votes to get elected to attain wealth and power. The other buys the elected to do the same. It appears the only difference is they deal and barter in different commodities but share the same pursuit. Does anyone really understand what that means?

TAKING YOUR TIME AND ATTENDANCE TO THE CLOUD: PAPERLESS LABOR MANAGEMENT As technology moves ever forward, how are you leveraging it to address your business' complex and evolving needs? It is no secret that it's easier and more "green" - to conduct business using less paper, yet the true value of going digital goes far beyond the simple consumption of paper and ink. A cloud-based labor management approach can bring more value to your company than you may realize.

based organizations are often viewed as backward and outmoded. Manual time and attendance processing is inefficient, costly and time-consuming. Fortunately, the arrival of cloud-based computing means simplified, flexible solutions are now within easy reach for most businesses. Here are some benefits you can realize by a move to a paperless labor management system:

Old habits often die hard but there's no denying that paper- 1. Compliance and accuracy:

helps you easily capture time and attendance data for accurate payroll processing and labor law compliance. You can eliminate error-prone manual calculations while still maintaining flexibility to meet your employees' needs. 2. Workflow automation: streamline time-sensitive tasks such as leave requests and approvals. Boost efficiency by ensuring that staff members are notified quickly when actions are needed. On boarding sequences can be programmed automatically, scheduling and forecasting become less resource-intensive. Files are more readily accessible from workstations, making record retention and retrieval easier. 3. Increased self-sufficiency: employees, managers and HR staff gain from paperless transactions. Self-service workflows give employees and managers access to the information they need to make informed decisions while status inquiries and paper requests become a thing of the past. Employees gain access to schedule, time balances and PTO requests themselves, freeing up supervisors' and HR staff time.

scheduling based on workforce requirements. Measure actual hours against projections. You also gain insight into workforce productivity trends, allowing smart decisions based on real-time information, taking advantage of rich data collection opportunities. 5. Access to field data: gain productivity and ensure that information is up-to-date regardless of workforce location. Cloud-based labor management supports you wherever you are, and is accessible through all kinds of devices, providing true responsiveness. Time reporting provides critical employee payroll, scheduling and historical trend information. 6. Disaster recovery: in the face of disasters such as fire or flood, know that critical documents are accessible and protected.

Finally, if your business believes it's important to the environment to reduce paper consumption and adopt a greener approach, not only will going digital cut costs and streamline productivity, but shifting to cloud-based labor management can help your business do more with less, 4. New "Pork and Mindy's" Restaurant Could Inspire Other Sitcom-Themed Eateries A new sandwich shop opening near Chicago would not really be news, only this one made the September 4 USA Today because of its unusual name. It will be called "Pork & Mindy's," a clever allusion to the sitcom that launched Robin Williams to stardom. Owner Jeff Mauro, nicknamed "Sandwich King," told the Chicago Tribune that the restaurant will offer casual sandwiches along with art and music. There will likely be television sets as well, and perhaps occasionally patrons may see the

late 70s show about the man from Ork, who eventually married the title character played by actress Pam Dawber.

There are other classic TV shows that would make catchy names for restaurants, and here are six examples.

The station one should first check would be TV Land or better yet MeTV, which already airs classic programs like "Get Smart," "Laverne and Shirley," "Happy Days" and "The Beverly Hillbillies." It even has a late Sunday morning block of the famous Florence Henderson-Robert Reed sitcom, appropriately referred to as "The Brady Brunch."

"Logan's Heroes" The series about prisoners in Germany during World War II starred Bob Crane as Hogan, but Logan is a much more common name now. Someone with that name could open a restaurant specializing in subs and gyros. "Adam's Ribs" The sitcom starring pre-White Shadow Ken Howard and Blythe Danner had a short run in 1973, but it would make a great moniker for a restaurant specializing in barbecued ribs.

Evolution of Language And Parallels to Start-Up Business Models Not long ago, I was discussing the evolution of language with some professors, educators, and linguists. Yes, there were others in the group including a gentleman who was working with a Start-Up company with a new aerospace technology. It became readily apparent to me, being that I am also a Bootstrap Entrepreneur that the evolution of language and the evolution of start-ups was somewhat similar in nature. Let me explain, as I did to the group of thinkers.

ing, the evolution of language and 'rule breaker, rule maker' disruptor start-ups has some fascinating parallels, doesn't it? Status quo regulations, rules, and total disregard for the approved methods, denial of the powers that be, then trends form, then more denial, and then the new business model is like a break-away as the entrepreneurial spirit flies right over the heads of the scientists and engineers who are arguing over new materials and physics claiming it cannot get airborne - then it's too late - change.

Falcons Fumble Away Undefeated Season

Superman has kryptonite. The Atlanta Falcons have Drew Brees and Sean Payton. Since the pair arrived in The Big Easy have taken what had been traditionally a oneside rivalry and switched it. Since the pair came to town in 2006 you can count Falcons’ victories on one hand – and have a few fingers to spare. Thursday night was no different as the struggling Saints had their groove back – at least for one game as they defeated their rival the Atlanta Falcons 31-21 before a sold-out raucous crowd at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Everything went well for the Saints while the Falcons saw things fall

apart. Looking at the stats one would have thought the Falcons won, but if you look at one category it explains the loss. Turnovers. For the second game in a row the Falcons turned the ball over more times than their opponent as they lost three fumbles. This week they were game changers. Twice while inside the New Orleans 20 they fumbled the ball away. First Tevin Coleman fumbled inside the ten to quash a game-tying score. “I told Tevin (Coleman) just to be Tevin and don’t get down on yourself. I’ve been in this league a very long ENIGMA

time. When something like that happens, a player can’t shy away from who he is,” said Atlanta’s Roddy White. “He’s a great player and works hard and I know he’ll bounce back and make a lot of plays for us. I thought he played great for us tonight. He did a heck of a job running the ball and except for the fumble, he played well.” White finally started seeing the ball thrown more his way scoring Atlanta’s forst touchdown and extending his franchise record of now 63 touchdowns. White caught three passes for 23 yards, his biggest game since the season opener against the Eagles where he tallied 84 receiving yards.

Before you knew it the Falcons were down 14-0. After taking the opening kickoff 80s yards with Marc Ingram scoring on a short touchdown run, the Falcons offense pretty much took over except a few mistakes and then the infamous blocked punt. Punting from inside his 10 punter Matt Bosher the Saints’ Michael Mauti actually got to the ball before Bosher’s foot, blocking the kick, jumping on the ball and crossing the goal line to the elation of the crowd that remembers a similar play in the season opener of 2006. “It certainly did get them rolling on the blocked punt. They had a twist game inside, one that

we executed a number of times, and tonight didn’t. They (broke) down our technique. It resulted on the punt being blocked,” said Falcons’ coach Dan Quinn about the blocked punt.

Ben Watson who came over from New England o take over the tight end duties from Jimmy Graham who left for Seattle had a career day with ten catches including a touchdown pass in the third quarter on a fourth and goal.

That was New Orleans’s first game since Hurricane Katrina has displace them the year before and the Saints embarrassed the Falcons on Monday Night Football. Thursday night’s game had the same feel except no one was displace – except the Falcons no longer being undefeated.

Devonta Coleman had another big game for the Falcons. He rushed for 100 yards on 13 carries including a 25 yard run early in the fourth quarter to pull the Falcons within 10 at 24-14. He also scored late in the game on a 13 yard catch and run from Matt Ryan to make the final score 31-21.

Brees looked like his old self as he threw for 312 yards and a touchdown completing 76.1 percent of his passes. Of course Brees tends to have his best days against his bitter division rival.

With the two touchdowns Freeman leads the league with ten touchdowns this seaso and has rushed for over 100 yards for the third time this season. The Falcons as a team ran for 150 yards and held

Miller finished the game with a season best 113 yards rushing on 19 carries to average 5.9 yards a carry. “I think both lines kind of set the tone for the game. We kind of talked about it for the last week and a half. That’s what we wanted to do, that’s how we want to play, is to set the tone up front. Move guys off the ball, get the ground game going and that really opens up our entire game book,” said Tannehill. “It was great to see those guys moving the double teams up front and the backs were hitting the holes hard. Lamar (Miller) was getting tough yardage whether it was big yards or three or four yard runs.
