Happy Mother’s Day Sunday is Mother’s Day. For the first time in my life I will have nothing to do this Sunday. In a way it feels freeing, while empty at the same time. I’ve already documented my mother’s recent death so I won’t go on too much about that, but now that I no longer have any parents it feels odd to observe the goings on with holidays centered around family since now the only real family I have now is myself and my two cats. As someone who has made a living documenting history for a profit (as slight as it might be) I would always dread March 1 and Mother’s Day. My father died
when I was 13 so he’s been out of the picture for a long time, plus my mother never remarried. March 1 was my mother’s birthday. Every week and at times daily I would look for events to cover for this magazine but would write off anything scheduled on this date and of course Mother’s Day. I missed a lot of great shows over the years because of my mother’s birthday as I begrudgingly stayed close to home to take her out for her obligatory birthday dinner. I saw my mother more than any adult male should this side of Norman Bates, but I would suck it up and take her wherever she wanted to go. Once she even suggested we go out on Saturday night to avoid the Sunday crowds for Mother’s Day and then I would remind her she was pushing her luck wanting to interfere with my Saturday night activities. My mother had many issues, some of which I wrote about

soon after her death, but she was cooler than most mothers when it came to holidays and stuff like Mother’s Day. And while she would get jealous if I spent more on my girlfriend at Christmas or Valentine’s Day she took it all in stride. Mother’s Day was not a big deal to her. To her it was a day she would grab a burger or pizza with her favorite guy. I still miss my mom.

BURY, England (UPI) - A British man caught stealing coins from a parking meter was banned from using vending machines or any other coin-operated devices until 2020. Russell Stansfield, 38, of Derker, England, was caught stealing from a parking meter in Bury earlier this year and he admitted in court to committing multiple similar petty thefts on a variety of coin-operated machines. Bury Magistrate’s Court ruled this week to slap Stansfield with a Criminal
Behavioral Order banning him from using coin-operated machines, including parking meters and vending machines, until February 2020. The only exceptions to the order allow Stansfield to use a pay phone to call emergency services and use a Metrolink machine to purchase a ticket, but he must immediately move away from the machine once his ticket has been issued. The order also banned Stansfield from any airports or airport parking lots unless he can prove he is traveling. He was also banned from Trafford Center and its parking lot. “It’s just weird if I’m honest, there are so

many things I can’t do,” Stansfield told reporters after the order was issued. “If I’m at the hospital for hours for example I can’t buy any food from the machines.” Stansfield, who apologized for his crimes and said he committed them during a “tough time,” joked the order could occasionally come in handy. “At least I have an excuse not to pay for things,” he said. “I think I might be the only person in the country with this bizarre restriction, maybe even the world.”

Today’s story is basically that, except a lot more stupid. A man and woman have been arrested in central Florida after police say they stole more than $300 worth of meat from a grocery store. Deputies reported that 48-year-old Doris Rowe and
54-year-old Kenneth Edwards drove 26 miles to a Winn-Dixie store in DeLand where a store manager saw Rowe stuffing meat products and other items into her pants. Deputies say the manager stopped Rowe and she hit the manager in the neck, dropping pork ribs, two packs of detergent and three water filters. Rowe fled the store and got into Edwards’ truck. Deputies apprehended them at a traffic stop. Both were charged with grand theft and robbery. Deputies found ribeye steaks, ground beef, bacon, pork ribs and a gallon of bleach in the car valued at $361. No 15-year-old cashiers or middle-aged Deans’ wives were molested during or after the incident. LUCE COUNTY, Mich. (UPI) - Two sisters lost in the woods for nearly two weeks survived on Girl Scout cookies, cheese puffs and snow before being rescued Friday. Rescue workers found Lee Wright, 56, and Leslie Roy, 52, after their SUV got stuck April 11 in the deep snow in a tree-canopied area in Michigan’s remote Upper Peninsula. They were weak but in otherwise fine condition, authorities said. “It is unbelievably remarkable,” said Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Jeff Marker, who assisted in the rescue. “They had multiple layers of clothes on and they were rationing their food.” Roy, from Nebraska, and Wright, from Oklahoma, left the town of Ishpeming after visiting their relatives and planned to make a three-hour drive to

Police hiked 25 minutes before reaching them. “When we pulled up, they grabbed their purses and Lee Wright clutched onto her Bible and both women were very happy,” Marker said. “It was hugs all around.” MILAN, Italy (UPI) - The latest museum to dump knowledge on Italy is the Museo Della Merda, a facility dedicated to the study of human and animal feces. The Museo Della Merda, which roughly translates to “Museum of Poop,” although the intended wording is somewhat more profane, describes itself as an “agency for change” that “houses documents and information on excrement in culture, technology and history.” The pooseum aims to show “what a useful and living substance crap really is.” Headquartered in the Piacenza province hamlet of Castelbosco, it held a launch event Monday at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. The exhibit tracks the history of excrement and seeks to educate visitors on the ways poo is put to good use around the world. “Few phenomena are so rich in material and conceptual complexity as the cultural history of [excrement],” the museum said. Museum tours can be arranged for Saturdays and Sundays between May and August. TULSA OK - Traffic came to a stop as police in Tulsa chased and tased a naked man running along the highway. Police arrested and charged James Jackson with indecent exposure, obstructing justice and burglary. Drivers slowed and pulled over when they saw Jackson, 24, walking naked down the LL Tisdale Parkway. At least a couple of passengers recorded the incident with their cell phones. One video shows Jackson slamming his fist on a car as it passes by. He appears to try and open the driver side door of a truck that stopped to avoid hitting him. Jackson continued to walk down the highway and starts to sing before a police officer arrives and attempts to take him into custody. Jackson ignored numerous commands to stop and get on the ground by Tulsa police officers. That’s when an officer unsuccessfully used his Taser to subdue Jackson. In a video Jackson is seen removing the wires from his body and running away again. A second officer shows up and also uses his Taser. The two officers eventually get him on the ground and carry him away. Jackson might have been having a mental episode or was under the influence of drugs, according to police.

Three More Jump In So I was all ready to do a column on the sheer pointlessness of Carly Fiorina and Dr. Ben Carson deciding to run for the Republican presidential nomination when… Mike Huckabee decides to jump in the pool with them. I know. It will take a long time for that disturbing image to pass… …Huckabee had been hovering on the fringes for ages. No one was surprised when he announced his candidacy. Huckabee finished a distant second to GOP presidential candidate John McCain in 2008 and then sat out the 2012 election cycle so he could pad his pockets. Seriously. The man who grew up on the poor side of Bill Clinton’s hometown of Hope, Arkansas, is now loaded. And so are the deeppocketed donors who are backing the former Arkansas governor… …The New York Times has reported on the dubious organizations that Huckabee has rented his campaign email list out to. One group insists that there is a miracle cancer cure hidden in the Bible. They’ll help you find it for a $72 donation. A POLITICO report skewered Huckabee’s fondness for using private jets. He’s totaled over a quarter of a million dollars in private air travel bills over the last few years and typically insists that candidates or local party groups he’s coming to support foot the bill for his travel…

When business leaders transition into politics, they usually emphasize their past successes in the corporate world. Fiorina is bestknown as the first female Chief Executive Officer at a Fortune 20 company. But she laid off over 30,000 workers at HewlettPackard as the stock lost half its value under her watch. After six years at the helm of HP, she was booted out and given a $21 million golden parachute. After the debacle that was and has been Sarah Palin, the Republicans needed a woman candidate who could bearticulate and sharp at media events. Fiorina is that. What she isn’t is a legitimate candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. Her lackluster corporate track record and two prior unsuccessful campaigns for public office aren’t enough to get her into the top tier…
Carson certainly has a core group of dedicated supporters. But the good doctor is just so wrong on so many issues… and so prone to surgically inserting his foot into his mouth. When he opined that being gay is a choice “because prison turns people gay,” he backpedaled at breakneck speed once the backlash hit. Dr. Ben also thinks the notion of climate change is bunk. You’d think that a physician would go along with the opinions of the hundreds of actual climate scientists who have published reports on “global warming,” but Carson is his own man… a man who tends to put his foot in his mouth…
…None of these three new contestants will ever be President. I’ve asked before: “What would make someone run for President… if they knew they’d never be President?” The answer: Sheer delusion colliding with enormous ego, along with a taste for the cash that comes pouring in if your money people do their jobs right. I can’t pick the eventual Republican candidate for President at this point. But I know it’s going to get crazy once the debates start. At this rate, they might need to set the podi...Oh, I almost forgot to mention: ums up on a basketball court… or Dr. Ben Carson is a black dude. at a football stadium… It’s hardly worth noting after back-to-back wins for Barack - Mark Bedford

RavenEye Turns the Blues Into Rock When the press declares you a guitar prodigy, the billing often becomes a double-edged sword. It’s especially true when the genre you’re heralded for is the blues. It’s the most sacrosanct of all musical forms for a guitarist because it requires the artist to have more than a soul. It requires the musician’s blood, sweat and tears.
I don’t really see this like now I have a license to venture forth into different paths. I’m a musician defined by a love of music, not the love of a genre. Blues is a style of sound that I’m passionate about and will always play live. There are some Oli Brown Blues Band gigs coming up in the UK in the near future so it’s not as if I’ve left the scene. RavenEye is hard rock and I wanted to dedicate myself into another band as well as my own career. After nine years of performing as a solo artist playing blues, I wanted to push my own musical boundaries and start something new with people who are as dedicated as me. I’ve had it mentioned in a mag that I’ve turned my back on the blues which is just plain ludicrous, I’m 25 years old and have performed the Blues since I was 16 years old. Now I have another band that I work with and hopefully I’ve got quite a lengthy life ahead of me in this endeavor. This won’t be my last venture before I’m six-feet under. I’m actually reviving my past records in the new live solo show, so if anything I’m touching closer to my roots in some senses. There is just less chances to catch it live as RavenEye gets flying.
For British blues phenom Oli Brown, after multiple Blues Awards, three acclaimed solo albums and a live recording, he was expected to lead the next generation of British blues guitarists. But something happened to him during a tour last year with Canadian percussionist Lyle Molzan. Brown discovered a side of his personality that had henceforth been buried within. It’s a little thing called rock and roll. Oli Brown discovered he loved to rock out on his guitar to the point he totally refocused his playing. To take the matter even further, he turned what was going to be another solo project into a power trio and named it RavenEye. On April 28, 2015, the group’s debut album will be available the world over and Oli Brown will become a singer in a rock and roll band. Just what the doctor ordered.

It’s where the heart lies within the music, not just a song to fulfill a purpose, but to fulfill a soul.

Aaron tasks us to film as much as possible on the road so he can put together a little tour montage such as the one we have already on our YouTube channel. Kev is great at putting live music vids together and capturing those moments with his cameras. I like to work with Typography and have been creating some lyric vids to go alongside the release of upcoming songs. It’s hard to know where the limits lie with social media because there are so many outlets in which we can present ourselves. Right now, as we are developing as a band, it’s important we explore every possible source.

no difference because as far as I’m concerned, every performance counts. None of us are looking at this like we deserve to be playing here/there/etc. We’ve got a lot of work cut out for us and are looking for a long sustainable life in music together as RavenEye.

After we played that weekend, the three of us knew RavenEye was it for us. We’re like brothers now, wouldn’t want to go out with anyone else.
