WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (UPI) - Police are working to identify a Florida man who apparently knocked himself out for a few seconds by head-butting a bus out of anger over a $2 fare. The Winter Haven Police Department, which posted video of the incident to its Facebook page, said the man got off the bus about 11:35 a.m. Saturday when it arrived at its stop. Police said the man told the driver he wanted to go to another location, and he became
“extremely agitated” when the driver told him it would be an additional $2 fare to travel to the other location. The driver locked the bus and went inside the enclosed part of the bus terminal, leaving the passenger sitting alone on a bench. WUHAN CITY, China (UPI) Chinese police said a disgruntled girlfriend led to the arrest of a man accused of posing as an officer and converting his home into a fake police station. Police in Wuhan City said the man’s girlfriend went to police when he threatened to post a sexually explicit video of the couple online, and investigators discovered the man had been posing as an officer named “Inspector Lei” for at least two years. Investigators said the fake inspector had sirens on his car and his apartment was converted into a fake police station, complete with an interrogation room featuring a Chinese flag and a bust of Mao Zedong. Police said the man was posing as on officer for a moneymaking scheme that involved selling falsified Public Security Bureau documents and warrants to members of the public. The man’s girlfriend said she started to doubt his honesty after some of her friends told her that he had been flirting with them online. EVESHAM, England (UPI) - When the secretary of a members-only bar in Britain opened up one day to find the premises trashed, he wasn’t expecting the culprit to be a squirrel, let alone a drunk one. Sam Boulter, 62, the secretary of the Honeybourne Railway Club near Evesham in Worcestershire, told the BBC he found the bar covered in beer and smashed glasses and beer bottles when he opened up Sunday evening. After making the discovery, he said he saw a squirrel “staggering around,” coming out from behind a box of potato chips. “There were bottles scattered around, money scattered around, and he had obviously run across the bar’s pumps and managed to turn on the Caffrey’s tap,” Boulter said. “He must have flung himself on the handle and drank some, as he was staggering around all over the place and moving a bit slowly. “I’ve never seen a drunk squirrel before. He was sozzled and looked a bit worse for wear, shall we say,” he added. Boulter told the Daily Mail he and two customers spent about an hour chasing around the squirrel, trying to get him out of the bar. He eventually caught the rodent in a trash can and let him go out a window. He said the squirrel’s antics cost the bar about $470 in damage. “He is the rowdiest customer we

PROVIDENCE R.I. - Even the most carefully thought out scam has a flaw. The woman in today’s story had a pretty good scam, as scams go. She would take items off the rack at Nordstrom, and then return them to the register for a refund. And apparently it worked pretty well, too. According to the police she was making hundreds of dollars. But there was one contingency she didn’t plan for; what to do if she got caught. The woman who was accused of shoplifting at the mall in Rhode Island, lost her life when she jumped 25 feet to the ground in a failed attempt to flee from guards. The 35-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was shopping at the Providence Place Mall when a female security officer saw her taking the clothes. As the officer approached her, she fled through the garage and she attempted to escape by jumping over a railing barrier. The suspect then fell 25 feet to the grass below and suffered serious injuries. She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. I don’t know what kind of penalties they have in Rhode Island for pinching a $100 blouse, but it can’t be as severe as the death penalty. The only other explanation is she thought she was Batman.

Trees were cut down, lots bulldozed and houses thrown up. New people who were not used to Puck roaming freely did not like it that a small dog was “on the loose”. Animal control was called and Puck was picked up - grabbed by the “man”. Puck was of course terrified. Luckily his owner sprung him and Puck went back to the neighborhood. His owner was admonished by the Judge at court and fined. However, his troubles with the “government” weren’t over. Puck aroused the ire of someone who was just renting an apartment in the area. This defender of North Chattanooga’s being overran by unleashed dogs report-

ed Puck. The owner was cited again. It didn’t look good for Puck. His owner had a small pen in her backyard but he had dug out of that before. What to do? I by now had grown more and more fond of Puck. He was not at that time a super loving dog but he did have a certain aloof air about him, a certain ‘spunkiness” that I liked. I decided to help. I elected to help Puck go on the lam from North Chattanooga. He was “wanted” in Chattanooga not Soddy Daisy. Puck came to live at my house. I had a large fenced in backyard where Puck could go out. I would let him roam in my neighborhood some. Nobody called in on Puck out there. Puck became a pack member with my other dogs and settled in.
Occasionally he showed a little too much pack loyalty like when my Chihuahua started chasing a neighbor and Puck joined in the chase and began nipping at the person. Thankfully the damage was very minimal and that transgression was smoothed over. Another time a worker laying laminate grabbed Puck after leaving the door open and letting Puck out. I warned the guy not to grab Puck but he didn’t listen. Puck nipped him. Puck also nipped my brother once when he picked him up to bring him home after Puck wandered out of my yard. In later years as Puck was getting arthritis in his back legs I would pick him up to get him started walking and sometimes to go out to the restroom. One day he got aggravated at me and nipped me. I just laughed at his grouchiness.

I gave him prescribed painkillers for his arthritis. Sadly I watched his physical deterioration. I bought him boots to help him get traction to get up. I put up a ramp on my front steps although he rarely used it. Puck soldiered on.
Puck became my dog. If I were standing somewhere he would come over and nuzzle my leg with his wet nose. Sometimes I would look down and he was just there at my feet. He would bark and wag his tail when I came in the door. He came (most of the time) when I called - much more so as he aged. He would still bark and jump when his other owner came over. He still loved her until the end.
I took Puck home and buried him in my yard. I still look around for him subconsciously then realize he’s gone. I miss him every day along with his former pack-mate Sally.
Finally one day after a few days of Puck not been eating and obviously not feeling well I took him to the vet. I was stunned when the vet found a large raw wound on Puck’s leg. It was too big to fix and she told me it was time to let Puck go. I would not accept it for awhile. I carried Puck around the room and finally accepted the situation.

I can still remember the “day the music died” for my generation in the south. It was that fateful plane crash in October of 1977 where half of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd perished. Southern rock was kind of a new thing back then relatively speaking and when it came to music. Southerners had a voice and by god we stuck together and were loyal. Then the unthinkable happened. Five years earlier we lost Jim Croce to a similar fate and of course the pioneers of

Bad Songs From Great Albums Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited, which turns fifty in August, has a rare distinction. It is one of the few albums with not even a single throwaway song. Every track on the album is a treasure, starting off with the iconic single "Like a Rolling Stone" all the way until the epic "Desolation Row" that ends the record. Only a handful of others can make the same boast, such as Steely Dan's The Royal Scam and Elvis Costello's My Aim Is True. Fans of heavier rock could list Led Zeppelin IV or perhaps Black Sabbath's
Paranoid. Some LPs come mighty close, though, when it comes to comprising nothing but good songs. They miss the distinction by having just one bad song stuck somewhere among all the gems.

KKaa ssee bbee rrgg claims that he tweeted the following joke on February 17, several hours before a similar gag O ’’BBrr iiee nn’’ss opening became part of O monologue on his chat show: “The Washington Monument is 10 inches shorter than previously thought. You know the winter has been cold when a monument suffers from shrinkage.” On his show that evening, O’Brien told the audience: “Surveyors announced that the Washington Monument is 10 inches shorter than what’s been recorded.
