Cherokee Recreation and Parks had previously earned this award in 1999 and most recently in 2003. Cherokee County Community Services Agency Director Bryan Reynolds earned the highest individual district award by being named the District 5 Distinguished Professional. Reynolds previously served as the Recreation and Parks director from 2008–2019 and was appointed as the Community Services Agency director in 2019. The agency completed the final steps of the eighteen-month self-assessment phase of the process and submitted the report in March 2021 then successfully completed the CAPRA site visit in May 2021. As part of the CAPRA process the agency approved and instituted a new Standard Operations Procedures Manual covering more than fifty new or amended

policies or procedures, instituted a new Park Maintenance Manual that guides maintenance processes and schedules in all twenty-three parks and facilities, adopted a new strategic plan that will guide program and facility development for the next five years, and trained staff in areas such as de-escalation tactics, developing and evaluating programs, social media use, and reducing risk in agency programs and facilities. At the CAPRA hearing in late summer 2021, the agency officially passed 149 out of 154 standards, becoming just the eleventh accredited agency throughout the state of Georgia.
