ORLANDO’S TALLEST, FASTEST, LONGEST COASTER BEGINS ITS ASCENT AT SEAWORLD ORLANDO Surfacing this summer at SeaWorld Orlando will be Mako, a 200-foot-tall hypercoaster that will reach 73 mph along 4,760 feet of steel track — nearly a mile long — and leave riders feeling both breathless and weightless. Named for one of the ocean’s fastest known sharks, Mako will be Orlando’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster. “On Mako, you’ll experience what it’s like to be this apex predator, surging through the water at top speed and chasing prey throughout a massive reef,” said Brian Morrow, SeaWorld’s attraction creative director. “It will be a wild mix of fear, thrills and fun.” Mako’s tight turns and speed are inspired by reality. Mako sharks — also called “blue pointers” — are known for their top speed, making extreme jumps, and the ability to quickly change course as they pursue their prey. The new coaster will become one of the world’s few true hypercoasters, a group of roller coasters known for high speeds and steep drops and hills that create a feeling of weightlessness or “air time.” As the sleek coaster cars crest each hill, riders float, nearly weightless. Mako is manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, a company renowned among coaster enthusiasts. B&M has built many of the world’s top roller coasters, including SeaWorld’s Manta and Kraken, and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s SheiKra. SeaWorld’s new hypercoaster will be the centerpiece of the newly themed surrounding realm. The two-acre plaza now will be fully shark themed including Mako, Shark Encounter, Sharks Underwater Grill, shops, shark and shipwreck theming and educational experiences featuring sharks. ARTEGON MARKETPLACE UNVEILS NEW ENHANCEMENTS, TENANTS & EXPANSION PLANS This past November, Artegon Marketplace celebrated their first anniversary with new enhancements, tenants and expansion plans that complement their 1.1 million-square-foot shopping attraction and artisan marketplace located on the north end of International Drive. The new developments represent a multi-million dollar investment by the property’s owner, New York-based Lightstone, and will generate a forecasted 400 new jobs by the end of 2016. The reveal featured a significant transformation to the center’s most distinguishing feature: its collection of over 165 artisans selling one-of-a-kind hand-crafted items made by local masters. Florida’s largest daily indoor artisan marketplace now boasts fully built-out custom storefronts, themed to reflect each merchant’s goods. Slated to join the artisan marketplace’s existing line-up of anchor tenants and in-line stores are Sky Zone indoor trampoline park, occupying 24,000 square feet (fall 2015); the area’s first NYZ Apocalypse, a unique interactive zombie survival experience within a 45,000-square-foot space (early 2016); and Pita and Spice Co. restaurant (early 2016). With the artisan marketplace 90 percent occupied, the center’s leasing team is actively promoting in-line store space and food and beverage kiosks, with additional announcements forthcoming.
