Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex guests can experience the stunning sights and powerful sounds of a launch of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, with two exclusive launch viewing locations from which to choose. The most powerful rocket this generation has ever seen, SpaceX’s new Falcon Heavy rocket, launched successfully in February 2018 for the first time. Kennedy Space Center’s historic launch pad 39A had not supported as much thrust since the last Saturn V rocket nearly 45 years prior. The Falcon Heavy can lift over double the payload, or cargo, as the next closest rocket, as it is designed for potential human spaceflight—perhaps back to the Moon or even Mars in the future. To put it in perspective, the rocket’s first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores, totaling 27 Merlin engines. Additionally, the second stage’s engine can be restarted many times, making multiple orbits possible. Currently, no more launches are scheduled on the SpaceX manifest, though several launches are listed as “future missions”. Check spacex.com/missions for updates. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers the closest public viewing of launches with the purchase of a launch transportation/viewing ticket. Availability of viewing opportunities and locations is dependent upon the scheduled launch time and is subject to NASA and U.S. Air Force approval.
