2016/2017 WEDDING TRENDS
HIGHLIGHT FILMS:
It seems that everyone is on Facebook and Instagram nowadays, and posting short videos is a fun way to share the highlights of your big day. The turnaround time for these short films is usually quick for videographers and it allows couples to share their celebration within their social circles shortly after the wedding day.
His & Hers Cocktails: Let your personality shine through your favorite libation! This trend can help your budget, too, by allowing you to allocate drinks being made for guests rather than having an open bar with endless possibilities being offered.

Lighting Everywhere:

Creative use of lighting continues to dominate in wedding design trends. The use of vertical space (lighting hanging down), creative lantern ideas and lighting draped from tree branch to tree branch are some of the ways that modern brides and grooms are achieving a romantic look.
Freshly Picked Flowers:
Local in-season flowers create an organic and natural feel for your wedding reception. You can also save money by going with in-season blooms due to increased availability from your floral professional. 8 ENJOY ENJOYWEDDING STYLE GUIDE SPRING/SUMMER 2016
LOUNGE STYLE SEATING:
Long, rectangular tables intermixed with circular tables helps break the monotony of an all-round traditional reception seating plan. This gives the reception less of a conference feel and more of an intimate lounge feel. Photo by 10Baretoes Photography

the Art of the Tablescape I D E A S F O R U N I Q U E TA B L E D E CO R
The tablescape – the design aesthetic of your guest tables – is the ultimate tone-setter for the wedding, the quintessential showcase for your theme colors and the element that has the most power to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable on your big day. We’ll give you the scoop on how to pull one off to perfection. A rich, wooden banquet table provides the perfect way to encourage family-style dining. And since your families will be merging on your wedding day, it’s only fitting. A soft white table runner helps to create a stellar contrast between the furnishings, floral arrangement and glassware. 10 ENJOY
Comfy yet elegant seating does double duty to encourage your guests to stay a while, and it lends a bit of eye candy to the look. Extra brownie points for anyone who infuses mismatched vintage chairs into their wedding décor. The low-lying floral arrangement, loaded with luscious blooms in merlot, blood orange, tangerine, marigold and white, is the optimal size and shape to encourage acrossthe-table conversations. Decorative cake platters provide just the right variation of height to draw the eyes in. The warm copper tones give the artisan-style wedding cakes the platform they deserve.

An elegant menagerie of glassware, featuring both vintage and new pieces, highlights your wedding colors in style. It’s OK if they aren’t matchy-matchy. In fact, it’s ideal if they are not. Consider using some of your mom’s or grandmother’s glassware to personalize it. Cloches are the perfect way to protect food from the elements while highlighting sweet décor items in a whimsical way. Leave a treat for each guest at their place setting. Jars of local honey are a nice way to let guests know you and your honey are meant to be. Elegant props – think faux fireplaces, mirrors, side tables, additional seating, vases with greenery and the like – can be used to create a dramatic backdrop or small vignettes within your wedding décor and are sure to leave your guests in awe of your style prowess. Mothers’ Nature FINDING THE PERFECT ENSEMBLE F O R YO U R DA U G H T E R O R S O N ’ S W E D D I N G DAY Your daughter or soon-to-be daughter-in-law has waited her whole life for this day. And while she’ll undoubtedly be the belle of the ball (and rightly so!), it doesn’t mean you can’t be stunning, too. Follow along for a few tips on how to look your best for your child’s big day. 1. Have a heart-to-heart with the bride. Before you dive headlong into shopping for your dress, find out the color concept, the level of formality (or lack thereof ), and overall vibe of the wedding. Ask the bride what her style preferences are with regard to color, length and type of sleeve. Is she open to you wearing a pant suit? Ask her if there is anything she would object to. Use this conversation as a guideline on what to consider and what to rule out during the shopping process. 2. Keep the lines of communication open. Typically, the mother of the bride should be the first of the moms to purchase her dress, but this isn’t a factor that can be controlled or guaranteed. Maintain an open (and friendly) dialogue with the mother of the groom and the bride so everyone can be on the same page and enjoy this glorious occasion in style and solidarity. Photos by Essence Photography
ENJOY 17
3. Remember, it’s the bride’s day. Sure, you may detest the idea of dressing up in a gown, or you may wish she wasn’t planning to wear cowboy boots under her white dress, but, Mom – just this once – it’s your turn to acquiesce to her whim. 4. You are not a bridesmaid. Short of hearing it directly from the bride that she wants you to wear the same color, it’s best to consider an alternative that will coordinate, but not clash, with other members of the bridal party. Monochromatic shades or fun pops of the theme color will provide wonderful depth for photos and complement the overall vision of the wedding, while providing an opportunity for each of the moms to stand out beautifully from the masses. 5. The color of your dress matters. Avoid white, ivory, champagne or any variation thereof that competes with the color of the bride’s gown – unless, of course, she specifically requests you to do so. The same holds true for ensembles in red and black.
18 ENJOY

6. Be tasteful in your selections. There is nothing in the motherof-the-bride or -groom dresses rulebook that says “frumpy is the new fabulous.” Find a dress you feel magnificent in. But stealing the thunder of the happy couple by wearing something too short, too low-cut or otherwise inappropriate to the wedding isn’t something you’d soon live down. 7. Look and feel your best. Find a dress you love. Select jewelry, shoes and accessories that complement your ensemble beautifully. Have your hair, make-up and nails done. You’ve waited your child’s entire life for this day. Look the part and be prepared to relish in the joy of it for years to come.
I can help you fit into your dress with less stress!

Sure, it’s tradition to have a big, elaborate wedding cake. But in 2016, breaking tradition where dessert is concerned isn’t just something acceptable – it’s celebrated. Check out our list of 10 fabulous ways to treat your guests to something sweet, yet unexpected. 1. Layered fruit parfait in wine glasses or mason jars. Let the style of your wedding dictate which presentation would work best. This is a lovely way to incorporate your theme colors, as well. 2. Rice crispy treats. They’re just as delicious as they were when you were a kid. And everyone knows it. They’ll look all grown up, cut into pieces and layered onto stunning cake plates of varying heights. 3. Doughnuts. Who doesn’t love a doughnut? And they can be glazed to complement your wedding colors perfectly. 4. An ice cream bar. Pick a few basic flavors and some fun-filled toppings and let your guests have a ball making their own creations. 5. Mini French pastries. Bite-sized crème brulee, napoleons, éclairs and fresh fruit tarts with brioche will have your guests saying “oooh la, oui oui” tout suite! 6. A funnel cake bar. You’ll have guests lining up at the dessert table from the delicious aroma alone. Display a unique selection of toppings for customizable fun.

7. A candy bar. Clear apothecary jars in varying shapes make a wonderful display for your favorite sweet treats. Give each guest an organza pouch, a small mason jar or brown paper bags stamped with your names and wedding date for a treat guests can take home. 8. Chocolate-dipped fruit. Strawberries are classic and always delicious, but don’t overlook raspberries, oranges, apples, pineapples, apricots or mangoes to provide a fresh and exciting twist. Dried fruit works, too. 9. A pie bar. There is something about eating pie that always feels like home. Use mini pies or full-sized ones on platters to create a unique display and a comfy atmosphere for your guests.

10. A dessert table that celebrates your culture. Treat your guests to a dessert that represents your heritage in a way near and dear to your heart. Give your guests a chance to enjoy sticky rice with mango (from Thailand), TrĂŠs Leches (from Latin America and the Caribbean), flan (from Mexico), bread pudding, beignets or praline candy (from New Orleans), tiramisu (from Italy) or Russian tea cookies. What better way to leave a lasting impression on your guests than sharing a bit of yourself with them?

Professional Experience: No matter how simple you think it is going to be… it isn’t. There is a really good reason why the Wedding Space is a $300 billion global industry – it is filled with professionals who offer products and services. Things do not always go according to plan, and the weddings that end up going well tend to be the ones that are being run by professionals who have experienced problems before and know how to work through them. Putting a wellmeaning but inexperienced friend or family member in charge of the festivities often have two outcomes: wasted money and an upset bride.
ENJOY 27
Professional Results: The old saying is “you get what you pay for,” and this couldn’t be more true when hiring a wedding professional. If you want your wedding to go smoothly and worry free, hire a professional planner. If you want stunning wedding photos, hire a professional photographer, if you want music that will keep your guests dancing all night, hire a professional DJ. If you are on a tight budget and worried about having to cut corners, prioritize what is most important to you and work your way down the list, while looking for professional options at each step along the way. Professional Commitment: When you hire a professional, you are signing a contract and paying that person to be committed to you and your wedding. This guarantees that they are showing up to get the job done. Imagine having a friend with great musical taste volunteer to DJ your wedding, then end up having a change in plans at the last minute, leaving you in a bind. You want someone who is contractually obligated to be there for you, who has your wedding on their work schedule and is going to show up. Save Yourself, Friends & Family: Your wedding is a joyous celebration for your loved ones - and you don’t want to end up delegating so many tasks to them that they can’t fully enjoy it. Weddings are a lot of work, from setup to cleanup and everything in between. Save yourself, your friends and your family. Hire professionals and let everyone else enjoy the celebration.
